'til it happens

last night, my friend was on her way home around 4 am. she'd been at a bar-club-thang and she'd had her fair share of drinks. suddenly, some guy waltzes up to her, corners her and asks her if she wants to have sex and all, then starts feeling her up and i don't know what. thankfully, she wasn't too drunk and was able to put up a small fight and he ended up 'only' running off with her purse, containing stuff valued at at least 8000 DKK (1496 USD) including her wallet with all her cash and cards and ID, and her brand new iphone.

she'd asked me earlier in the evening if i wanted to go with her but i was visiting my dad's parents, which was 2½ hour away from her. i can't help but wonder: what if we had decided to visit another time and i had been able to go with my friend? she could've been raped.. and worse things :/ i know i'm not supposed to feel guilty but i can't help but think ''what if...?''

i'm still shocked... but i'm so fucking thankful nothing happened to her.

In middle school I realized that not even my friends really understood me. And at that horrible, horrible school, if you go against the current, you're shunned for being different than a generic, cliquey girl. -shudders-

But I guess that sums up middle school in general anyways, so. :P

And I'm sorry that happened to your friend. :( My advice is to cancel all her credit cards right away before someone uses them.

I hope she's okay :( That would've scared the hell out of me if I had any friends that had happened to someone I know.

I can't think of any of those moments I've had, though.

Well, I&;d rather be robbed than raped. So I guess that&;s good. It wasn&;t your fault at all, and that guy is a sleaze. I hope he got hit by a truck.

As for wake-up calls, uh. Hmm. I can&;t think of any at the moment, but I know that things have happened that made me go &;oshit I didn&;t think of that&;. I&;ll post later if I think of something.

well, yah, who wouldn't. and i'm glad she got away with that. the worst part is, people were just walking by as it all happened, her screaming for help even. douchebags..

Better to hear that she was safe and only got robbed than a variety of scenarios that could have taken place beyond that.

A kid from my french class came in and told us about how his friend (she graduated in 07 or 08 from our school I think) who had moved to Florida had went to this bar and met a guy. They talked for a while, shared a few drinks, just doing what you'd normally do when you socialize at a bar. At the end of the night he gave her a kiss on the cheek and asked if she wanted to come back home with him. She said no so he went ahead and went home.

A couple weeks later she got a rash on her cheek and she went to the doctor to get it checked out. When they looked into it more, they found out something totally disturbing. She got a call from the cops a few days later informing her that the man who she had met at the bar had been picking up women from bars, taking them home, then killing them and eating them.

Needless to say, it made me weary about going out and meeting new people. :(

Whoa. That's absolutely insane! Did they ever talk about this on the local news?

Not here, as far as I know of. She gave him a call about a week after it happened. I should google it and see if the local news in Florida said anything about it. :o

But they did catch the guy, that's how they knew about what he did. :P

All of these stories are awful D:. I'm glad noone has actually been killed or anything though, so that's good! Luckily I've never been in a situation where a guy has come on to me that strongly and in a place where I can't reach help.

Although I was in a club a few months back and suddenly felt some rather heavy arms around my stomach, I just remember thinking, oh for fuucks sake. And the next thing I know I'm literally being pulled across the room towards this insanely drunk guy. I'm just lucky my friends were with me at the time, and this guys friend clocked onto what he was doing.

The biggest reality check for me, though. Wasn't anything like that, it was to do with crossing train tracks at a level crossing. Like, I don't usually think much of it, I just check and then go. But one time me and some of my friends were on one side of the track, and the rest on the other. We were quite far apart, as in, we were waiting in the field. And all we see is one of my friends run down the hill next to the train track, and then a train went past. I've never been so worried in my life. But then luckily, we see my friend hop over the fence on the same side as us.

I now pay much more attention when crossing train tracks!

Yeah, reality's a bitch. I see now why people like being superstitious :P

Reality slapped me in the face when a friend of mine turned out to have a brain tumor messing with her eyesight.

Thankfully, the surgery was successful and she's not completely blind, but we were all scared while she was going through chemo and everything. She was optimistic and positive throughout the whole thing, though... it would have been sad to lose someone like her.

I had a reality check a couple of weeks ago. I mean, I've had friends die in car wrecks and friends injured.. and they rattled me and scared me a lot when it happened. They were reality checks in their own right.. but my friend and I were in the car, she was driving, and we were coming home from the high school's graduation, right down the road from my house. This guy came out of this side road and completely ignored his stop sign, and pulled across oncoming traffic, right into our lane. My friend had to veer off the road and come to a complete stop to avoid hitting him, and the asshole just drove off laughing. Didn't stop to check on us, apologize.. nothing.

If we had been going just a few miles faster, or been there a few seconds later.. we could have died. He would have ran straight into my friend's side. She could have died, and.. god.. when I realized that.. it just scared the utter hell out of me. She is an amazing driver, and was doing everything right, but because some asshole completely disregarded a stop sign.. we could have lost our lives, or been seriously injured.

It just made me realize how little control we have sometimes.. and what can happen in coincidence.

Your friend is VERY lucky that she got away unscathed. She might have suffered from a terrible hangover the next day, but at least nothing terrible had happened to her. I hope the animal is put on trial and put behind bars for life on the death sentence for what he's done to women. I'm always wondering why people like him do the things they do.

Hmm, I get little reality checks all of the time. Such as how girls my age (or anyone my age), can live in a run-down shack with no electricity, running water, etc, kids are abused in multiple ways and I'm complaining about how unjust it is to not be able to go to band practice because of sports, or how much of a amenity it is to be able to read and understand books, how much it can hurt people when you mean to tease in a funny/friend-like manner, or even how lucky I am to have a home, friends I can go to, and have a place to sleep. I read books, watch the news, etc, and sometimes the things going on in other countries make me realize that my little complaints are NOTHING compared to what other people are facing around the world. Little things like that ;)

However, the biggest reality check I've been given was when I've said/done a few things that weren't so nice and now I've regretted them. How I need to think before speaking/acting, the usual things like that. I've had the think before speak drilled into my heads multiple times. And how sometimes it's best to listen than speak.
