Well. My sister and I just got home from the cinema, where we paid for tickets, maltesers, and big ol' cups of lemonade.

I gotta say, I arrive home feeling pretty fucking underwhelmed with The Year One. Given that I'm not a huge Jack Black fan, I wasn't expecting it to be absolutely stellar, but I thought that given the rest of the cast, there might be a few decent laughs in there. I suppose I should have taken notice of all the poor reviews; they were right, for once.

THE YEAR ONE WAS LIKE.. some kid in year one wrote all the jokes and the plot and the everything. It was clumsy and boring and predictable.

Jack Black was absolutely over the top in his usual style; almost as if he's trying to forcibly squeeze the laughs out of you with pure enthusiasm and bulbous-torso-flashing.

Michael Cera, who I've actually really liked in everything else I've seen him in, is getting kind of boring; half his lines and catchphrases were ones I'd heard in Superbad and Juno? Being awkward seems to come naturally to him, and usually I love it.. but.. shit.. it just didn't really work for me here.

I heard Hank Azaria was all that saved this movie.. and I was kinda disappointed that he didn't. I don't recall laughing at him even once. His voice was about the only good thing I could say about his performance, though at times, his voice reminded me of Moe from The Simpsons, who he's the voice actor for.

Ugh. So disappointed. :/
