Writer's block. Creative block. Artist's block- my teacher did not recognize "Art block," actually.

Slap whatever name you want to it, it's the question of the century- well, one of them. Or maybe the lifetime.

Artists, writers, fellow thespians...

How do you ditch block?

I admit I am particularly interested in how the hell one ditches art block...also writer's block.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Spill it.

well for an art-block, I draw anime or still life. Eventually, after like a week or two of drawing, the block should be out. And if by then its not, Ill stick to doodling random shit around the house. Also going out to a zoo and drawing the animals is one of my fave ways to drop the block but its also expensive, mind you. ;)

I cancel all commissions and draw stupid little doodly things for myself. And look around FA for really good artists, cause I'm competitive and need to improve.

Or lovesy-dovesy stuff I find cures art block. Also good music.

I think the methods in which an artist gets out of an art block all depends on what works for them.

When I get into an art block I sometimes put what I was doing aside and work on something else (start a new piece of art or doodle, etc), take a break all together for a while, look at other artists' work for inspiration...

I like to take a break from anything creative I'm doing at the time and just concentrate on doing things like uni work. At some point I'll bore myself into doing art again.

giggles Vela:: I've bored myself into art before as well. If it takes doing boring stuff to get myself into drawing again, when I do draw it's like BAM art all over the place.

I've also found that if I'm in a slump I find lots of chores around the house to do that I don't wanna. Procrastination can be quite productive :D Another thing that sometimes gets me out of a slump is opening up freebies for others when I run out of ideas. Then once I'm out of the slump I re-open commissions/get started on them again. Currently I'm doing a lot of research on digital techniques which is making my hand itch for the tablet again.

Hmmm.. What is art block really? X'D For me it's just not WANTING to draw, more than not being able to. >: And it usually happens when I'm bogged down with commissions.

Opening up a freebie thread or going around the art freebies forum usually does the trick to unblock me, and after a few I find I'm able to focus on commissions again (instead of dreading them). ^_^

I always want to draw, but sometimes the stuff I draw comes out plain hideous. Then I know I've contracted art block. :|

I just wait it out, really. Browsing manga sometimes helps, music too. If I'm stuck and can't pull of details correctly, I make up for it by thinking out poses instead, or redlining my previous pieces.

Ask people for ideas. Like name any topic or something. For example, ice cream. Now you got your topic. Now draw something that deals with ice cream :) Here are other topics I can give you. Fun; Trees; School; Food; Toys.

I dunno <XD;; I hope that helps.
