Authority figures expect you to pick the better decision, just because it's 'moral?'
Well, lessie. Today, I was at a summer writing program, and the teacher was like, "OKAY CLASS. Get out your journals, we be writing."
So we all did. Then she's like, "So, pick which one. Explain whether you'd want to be poor and as happy as you could ever be,"
And she paused, looked at all of us with probing eyes, and continued.
"Or rich and unhappy and explain."
And she put so much emphasis on the first one that it made me want to blow my brains out.
Anyway. I picked the latter (mwahaha). She gave me a terrible grade because she told me I picked the wrong one and I'm like,
"You didn't tell us that there was a right one."
And she replies smirkily, "You should have known that there was a right one."
Anyway. Am I the only one annoyed by this? Because It annoys me. A lot.
wtf she's ridiculous if she gave you a choice, she shouldn't have graded you on which one you picked. that's just wrong, in my opinion.

She should have graded you on the quality of your paper, not on which topic you picked. It isn't a teachers job to impose their opinion on you and make you conform to it, it's their job to be unbiased when grading. If you got a poor grade, it should have been because your argument was weakly supported, not because you were honest and picked the "wrong" topic. :-/
I know! That's what I kept telling her, and she wouldn't listen to me. ):
wth she gave you a bad grade because you didn't pick the one that she thought was the better answer?thats crazy
Biased much? Terrible teacher. In questions regarding morals there is no such thing as a 'right' answer. Write that on her face.
I would, but she'd probably just give me an F.
Wow, how stupid. You could probably come up with plenty of valid reasons for choosing to be rich and miserable. Say, you'd choose it because you could donate a bunch of your money to charity, and even if you were still unhappy, you would rather prioritize improving other people's lives over your own. If that's "wrong," she's almost just teaching you to be selfish. And she's definitely teaching you to be close-minded and uncreative.
wtf, what a bitch. if i were in that situation, i would fight for my grade. she shouldn't force her morals on people. i agree with , report her.
i guess i'm lucky my gifted teacher is always dissatisfied when everyone in class (there are five of us, including me) gives the same answer. she pressures us into changing our minds...while my friend in class doesn't like it, i really appreciate her efforts.
She's not worth my time. I think I'm just going to enroll in a different writing class since she's such a closed-minded bitch.
I have a question. How can you be rich and depressed? You can buy stuff that makes you happy. A porche boxster would make me happy LOL. Anyway, what is a bunch of bull. She gave you a choice and didn't tell you which one to pick. What a bitch
QFT.
Seriously, report it to someone to see about getting your grade changed. Thats just ridiculous.

Oh wow, that sucks. She's giving you an option, getting mixed opinions is a given and there is no "wrong choice" regardless of what she seems to think.
Yeah, if I were you I'd switch classes because an issue like this most likely won't be resolved by speaking to her about it. Good luck. :c
[edit]Your signature is hilarious, by the way~
A teacher is there to guide you in your learning, not be god of your opinions. An opinion is never wrong!
Press ALT+F4 it's fun!

That's just absolute bullshit. If she wants to 'implant good morals into the youth of today' she should be teaching a goddamned class on ethics, not writing. She gave the class a choice, and the grading should have been based on the quality of the writing and how you expressed your sentiments on the topic you chose, not the topic itself. If she continues to give unfair grades just because she thinks 'the topic is wrong', she has no business to be a teacher in the first place. I say report her so other students don't have to put up with her crap in the future.
... Given the administration of the school board is willing to be on your side. My father was a teacher for nearly forty years, and I read this story to him and he agrees your writing teacher had no business to give you a bad grade because of the topic you chose, but unfortunately, he also said it's more likely the administrators will back up the teacher rather than the student. -_-; Sad, but true. The only way there could be 'justice' for you is if you were to appeal directly to the administrative board, but I doubt you'd want to cause a lot of drama. My heart is telling you to report the teacher, but my brain is telling you to go along with your original idea just switch classes. :(
sigh Better off listening to my brain. -_-;

I do hate so, but it's even worse when they think they're right because they are authority.
And I know most of us had a parent like that.
