Alright guys, this is probably not really the right place to ask about this but I'd like to know if you guys would buy before I set up a shop for them. They are necklaces created from origami paper stars that have been turned into beads by poking a pin through them.

My only examples of them is my own necklace here

I'd kinda like your guys opinions on them and if I did set up a shop for them if anyone would buy them. Keep in mind that the colors on the stars can be changed and the spacer beads can be different than what is already shown

Yeah, I have similar concerns. While the necklace is very sweet I don't think I could ever buy anything that was made out of plain origami paper.

I think that&;s really cute! The only concern would probably be durability if the stars are made of paper. Do you varnish them?
Yes they are varnished, they're actually more durable then what you think they'd be for being paper. The example given isn't varnish though since its a few years old now

well I saw another person selling these but HERS WERE NOT VARNISHED (last I checked) and she used a diffrent chain rope thing so you should look for her forum and see herse and see what she is selling them for hers are REALLY organized with a huge selection of beads and stars but the varnishing is a REALLY good selling point >< and your chains (i think) are better quality if I walked in to a store I would think this would be in the $7-$17 range but then theirs shipping and Im no specialist, so yea probably different from that

Yea I've checked hers and as far as I know she doesn't make her's this way. I do believe she uses just stretch elastic which is bound to break from too much stretching. She does have some really cute star patterns of her own though, sadly my stars don't even compare to hers since I've only got plain colors but I do have gel pens to decorate them with. And thanks for the price suggestion too Eggs.

That reminds me I took a few pictures with my phone of the new phone charm that I made on Friday. charm1 charm2 Its not the best quality photo but you get the gist of what it looks like, and the stars are really tough on this one too since they've been varnished and are made from light weight card stock (really really hard to squish into stars and once varnished hard to squish back)

I'm curious as to wether you'd still like you do this, after reading even a bit of this thread.

the people who grouped together saying they think others work is trash obviously cant appreciate art for what it really is: a way to express yourself to others

ugh that's so not what that thread was about. that thread was about the lack of quality of RL items being sold on the art market. i'd say that these necklaces, however, are pretty cute, and worth paying for as they're not just some beads and string. it's the chains that makes them worth the money i think (: i'm sure someone would buy them.

Maybe "trash" wasn't the right word, but it was still degrading others work. or that's what it looked like to me.

I think what the topic is saying that people should put in a little more effort than just plainly putting beads or whatever on a piece of string and call it a masterpiece and try to sell it for ridiculous prices. Because let's face it, putting beads or whatnot on a string and then tie the string takes so much effort.

Art is brutal and art is subjective. What might be your masterpiece might be 'trash' in others' eyes. You don't really need to get worked up just cause some people don't agree with you.

And regarding the charms; personally I wouldn't really buy it since they are not really something that's durable imo. If I wear something, I'd expect it to have good quality to last a while (instead of being crumpled, soaked and changes shape with contact with water).
