I'm mostly looking for advice and pricing opinions. Sorry for the overhaul of information. I just felt that I needed to explain my reasoning before a possible chewing out >.> Hence why im posting here before I decide if I'm going to do this.
Examples are at the bottom if you just wanna skip down there lol The justification is for anyone curious enough to read it or if anyone seriously wants to help me decide what to do ^^'
I'm after SP suggestions that would be enough compensation to make up for the fact that I have to use my own money for materials and postage. I do feel that for sp I should not add the extra safety and presentation measures that I do for all USD orders. How does anyone feel about that?
I also want to know how people generally feel about my current USD pricing. I've been asking around and I haven't had much negative feed back so far about the prices but I understand its all down to personal opinion on what one would spend on jewelry.
Information about the jewelry
The charms are all handmade from polymer clay and other materials such as rhinestones, swarovski crystal beads, gold and silver leaf, pearl ex powders and much more- either sanded and buffed for a matte shine or glazed for a high gloss shine.
I've been trying to start up my own little jewelry business online for about a year and a half now- rather i started it and still working on getting it going. I've had my own website but am currently in the middle of a move to a brand new site for some complicated reasons and during the shift I havent had anywhere to put my jewelry up for sale so most of its been private custom commissions so I thought maybe i could open a shop here for it :3
Questions I've been asking myself and now I'm asking you guys
I'm not sure if -
A) they would be welcome here B) that it would get too complicated for people to understand what I can do and what I cant do C) I worry that the fact that I need to be paid with shipping details before I can start (to prevent the waste of my materials on something made to the individuals taste where a change of mind might occur) might deter people from buying. (I do show WIP photographs and the final product before i ship them though)
I have a lot of apprehension in selling these charms here not only for the prices I've had and been selling them at regularily- wondering if I'm just going to get "thats too expensive" without anyone understanding the processes I go through to make the items and source my materials. But the sp section as well in regards to what it costs me in materials and the postage from australia.
Examples and CURRENT USD pricing
Practically all items are + $3 USD for postage and handling. Items come wrapped in bubblewrap slipped into an organza gift bag with business card and reciept inside a size A5 padded bag.
Also a note on price justification: Materials in australia seem to cost a lot more here then in the states =/ dont understand why but its pretty crappy I know. Even when buying materials online it ends up being a lot with the postage and everything. I am doing my best to keep everything I make as affordable as I can. I have a lot of stuff here lol
Examples
Custom hearts with initials have been selling for $15 USD (With Rhinestones)
Or $13 USD (Without Rhinestones)
Custom earrings - depend on the complexity and hooks used
This level of complexity for the CHARMS (not including the swarovski beads) on regular hooks are $6 USD
Add $5 USD for Sterling silver or 14 carat gold plated hooks
Add $0.30 per Swarovski Crystal Bead Accents
Doll Charm
been selling for roughly $12 -$15 USD depending on complexity
Flower pendants with name tags have been selling for $15 USD
Normal Flower Pendants selling for $12 USD for customs ($10 usd for the ones i have already made pokes example)
Cupcakes like this one $10 USD
Bunch of unpriced stuff
Doughnut :3 (this is the first example the hole is there its just hard to see because of the frosting lol will fix that next time i make one)
"Somebody nommed it" Chocolate
Biscuit
Shattered Circles
Bunch of random stuff including some cupcakes and chocolates and yeah stuff i havent organized yet :3
I had a deviantart for all this but I havent been active on it in a while but you can go to K-Gee-jewelry on DA and browse through some of my old stuff if you'd like :3
I'm not sure if I want to go the sp/USD ratio here, that is why I am asking. Because I have spent over $3000 in materials from when I started, I have over $1000 of debt for my college course (which is only for the upcomming semester then i need to find about roughly $1200 each semester for the next two years) and i cant really afford to be spending too much from my pocket for subeta points... Again this is a reason why I'm apprehensive and making a pricing board ^^'
You still remember that if you ever get sP prices i'm your first commission? :P
Your jewelry is BEAUTIFUL, it would so totally sell!
I personally think your prices are very fair as far as SP goes I wouldn't begin to know what to charge. You always make such wonderful items! I always love your work Toxy dear! If I had to take a shot in the dark on SP pricing I would say that 500k to 1 mill for every one real dollar spent shrugs

I agree the prices are very fair and since that first picture of the hearts is mine i can verify she did the custom lettering colors and initials as i wanted and i adore them ....
Pssss dont tell her but i would have paid more so $15 is fair :D
A) they would be welcome here
Dear, your jewelry is more than welcome here. I know it takes alot for someone to attempt to do what you do anf my adive to you is just keep on doing it ^_- I'm a guy and even I'm amazed with some of the stuff you are able to do and come up with.
B) that it would get too complicated for people to understand what I can do and what I cant do
If it gets too complicated for people to understand then they just aren't worth your time. You have examples of what you can do and if anyone expect anything else from you them they can just bugger off, again not worth your time. If someone comes up with something they want to you to do and you haven't done.... if you want to try it then try it. YOU'RE the Artist dear not them so they can't give you crap if something didn't turn out quiet the way they wanted it to and if they do then they can shove it up-grins I don't see them trying to do what they do....
C) I worry that the fact that I need to be paid with shipping details before I can start (to prevent the waste of my materials on something made to the individuals taste where a change of mind might occur) might deter people from buying. (I do show WIP photographs and the final product before i ship them though)
If you can't be paid with shipping details before you start then again love they are not worth your time.
BECAUSE I LIKE IT IN FORM FORMAT.
A) Currently there's shizz loads of jewelry boards here... and you know yours are way too awesome to not be included D; B) You do jewelry, you have sections and examples, it's not complicated. You offer what you have, and it's straight forward, even I could understand and I'm dense. If somebody asks for something you havn't done before, it's up to you whether or not you agree to it, it's your board after all (: C) Rather safe then sorry - and it's a procedure most real life items use, and it's just, well, sensible.
If you're feeling that the current sp/USD ratio isn't worth it, then up it a little more, it's your own money after all. But you can also have the option to pay in both, a little less sP if they handle p&p etc (:
But yes - you should make the board. ...Because then I can get a cupcake :'D Once I get my panties off Vanda, that is u-u
If I were to send the jewelry in a normal letter envelope with a little bit of bubble wrap for the SP slots do you guys think that would be acceptable? UNLESS they pay USD for postage and and maybe even a portion of USD/SP
Might get confusing but I wouldnt mind doing Half USD and Half SP in LIMITED slots at least I would be covered for materials and postage that way :3
And I dont want to offer sterling silver or Gold plated hooks or rhinestones or pearl ex powders or swarovski crystals and beads (it all costs me a lot DX) for SP
I guess my sp ones should be really basic? Does that sound snooty or anything? ;-; I dont mean it to be, Im just trying to make it affordable for me to do so I CAN offer to do it.
Does a $1 USD to 2.5 mill ratio sound fair? And I'll only open one slot at a time once i reach a certain target with usd?
I would definately buy with sp if that was the case :D
25m...I better start saving xD See, I am EXTREMELY interested in your Normal Flower Pendant, and thats $10 x 2.5m :P
Normal Flower Pendants selling for $12 USD for customs ($10 usd for the ones i have already made) I'll get a list up if i make the board :3
$1 USD to 2.5 mill ratio sounds penty fair to me
Ok well I'm leaning towards actually doing this ^^" I'm nervous about it but we'll see.
I'll open it after i get all my art commissions out of the way. I've been feeling like a jewelry making spree :3
since you have a little jewel thing in the middle of the flower pendant (i love the colouring of the one you have already made!) does that mean I can't buy it with sP? Depending on how my bracelets sell, I might be able to afford to buy it with USD.
[edit]
Talked to my mum, if I manage to sell my things as planned, in a few weeks if you still have that flower necklace I will be able to buy it for $10 :D
jess: I will make an exception on the flower pendants since thats their main feature- but ONLY for the crystal ones- coloured rhinestones will be for USD only :3 And that would be excellent! Which one of the premades were you after?
Aww thank you wish ^^ hehe I'm obsessed with cupcakes :3 <3
The purple flower one under the one with the name tag, but above the one with the cupcake...if that makes sense xD I should have the money some time in july. Do you use paypal, concerning payment?
[edit]
Oooh you know what would be great? You should put like, 5 of your cupcake charms on a bracelet. That would be awsome! Although, probably quite expensive ^_^;
I'll send you a comment since this isnt the art market XD
I actually had plans to do that! Along with making a whole cake and cutting slices for charms ^^ I have some really thick chain that would be great for it :)
That's my nametag flower :P And let me just say- they're amazing.
I totally think you should go with the SP thing- and 2.5m per $1 sounds completely fair to me.
You DO spend a lot of time and money on them- if you're going to go for SP sales, that needs to be compensated somehow. :)
OMG, do want a cupcake now :/
Oh my! Your jewelry is amazing~ :o I love the cupcakes and the doughnut~ :P
Ah, 2.5m per $1 sounds fair to me.
Charm bracelet now by far beats necklace, how much would they be in USD/sP? D; And 2.5mill / $1 sounds fair (: And, to be perfectly honest, if I was getting a real life item for virtual money I wouldn't really care how much bubblewrap it had as long as I got it xD AND GUIZ. I GET CUPCAKEZ K?
