My mother has been sick for about ten years, since I was eight. I haven't lived with her in nearly four, but I moved up here to finish my senior year of high school for many reasons.
Anyways, my dear, sweet mother has taken recently to accusing me of stealing things from her. Namely, money and medication.
Very important point number one: I have not stolen as much as a dime.
Very important point number two: My family is very poor and my mom has been disabled her whole life (she can walk, but she's got CP) and she gets social security whatever craps.
She just got a divorce and due to many stupid things my stepfather did, she had to close her bank account to keep companies from taking the $600 dollars a month (thats all she gets) because he wasnt paying bills that were in both of their names that we quite frankly couldn't afford to pay.
Very important point number three: She takes seziure meds, pain meds, and something else for inflammation. She's got fluid on her brain, bone spurs in her neck, and arthritis.
So, this morning .
I was looking for this package of batteries I saw the other day (you know how it is, batteries always end up some where were you can't find them) because the ones in my tooth brush were dead. I rummaged through a few baskets and drawers until I found batteries. She waited until I went up stairs, brushed my teeth and settled down and then burst into my room and accused me of going through her purse, since apparently she didn't leave her purse on the table.
I honestly didn't even SEE her purse the whole time.
Note, I have a 16-year-old brother. I'm not saying he's stealing, especially because I'm convinced nothing has ever been stolen.
Still, I'm getting really sick of it and don't know what to do. I don't know if it's because something actually is getting stolen or if she's just loosing it, or what, but it's so stressful to deal with feeling like she thinks I'm some sort of criminal. =/ I have a job and any time I've done anything immoral (aside from sex...) I've told my mother. Which has happened once. I tried marijuana once. I've never done any other controlled substances or even been tipsy at all. I don't see why she'd suspect anything of me.
I..wow. I have no idea what to say to that being I'm not in that situation. Sorry to hear about the state your mother's in though. :(
I was at a Wet Seal last year with my friends and I was carrying about $150 worth of clothes when I guess one of the sales ladies said,"Keep and eye on her, I think she's shop lifting." Uh, what? I ended up throwing my stuff on the counter and leaving. :/
You might try to confront her or ask her calmly why she thinks she has a reason to distrust you? I'm sorry about that, that must be awful. D:
The only time someone's recently accused me of stealing something is when my brother and I went to go fill up our van's gas tank, so we went into the convenience store together. I needed Tic-Tacs, so I looked around the cramped store, but I couldn't find the ones I wanted. I went back to my brother, thinking, screw it, I'll just buy some later, and the clerk starts talking to me in Spanish, telling me he suspects I took something without paying for it. I ended up emptying my pockets and being patted down by my brother (who worked as a clerk for another convenience store and said it wasn't uncommon for people to try and steal minor things like that). We ended up leaving the store five minutes later.
Needless to say, if I'm gonna steal something, it wouldn't be something small like a pack of Tic-Tacs. -_-;
I'm thinking about it but I think I'm still too angry to try to be civil with her. -__-;
Yeurgh. I always hate when I walk into a convenience store and can't find something. I get bothered when it's one of the clerks that just watches you the whole time and usually I just leave and say "...You're creepy." If I think a clerk really is creepy or a teenager-hater I usually turn around before I take too many steps into the store. Then again, the area I live has a lot of bad people of all ages, haha.
Wow. I shop at Wet Seal A LOT. I'd throw a fit if I overheard any thing like that and probably make a few phone calls. That's the worst thing any one can do to a customer. Infact, I'm not one to yell or hassle people because I know how terrible those jobs can get, but that's a case were I'd probably yell. xD
It sounds like a tough situation. I hope you can get it worked out soon =/
I once got fired from a job for stealing money, even though I didn't. It was a small pharmacy and I had only been there about a month when some money went missing from their till that they used for lottery tickets. They assumed it was me since I was new and everyone else had been there for years, but it wasn't. No big loss for me though, I guess, since they didn't try to press charges or anything and I found another job easily enough. And it was pretty boring there anyway.
