So I'm moving, but I'm taking a flight, which means I'm shipping most of my stuff but also loading my bags up as much as possible.
I've fit basically my entire wardrobe, my important books, video games, and my Wii into one suitcase. It's within the dimensions required by Continental Airlines and Midwest Airlines. However, I don't know how much it weighs, and it can't be over fifty pounds.
I can lift it with one arm - but that really doesn't help since I can lift a bag of forty pound dog food with one arm, as well. And since they are such different shapes, they're pretty much impossible to compare.
I'm trying to get my hands on a scale and see if I can weigh it to be sure, because if I'm over, I have to pay another $50.
And if I'm over, I was going to take out some of the clothes or possibly the Wii and ship that instead. I have a couple more things to ship, anyway - and they'd probably fit in those boxes.
Am I better off risking it, or should I ship extra stuff if I'm over? Do they tip the scales, would you say? Are they as strict about it as they seem? Will one extra pound really cost me $50? o-o;
Well, do you have a regular old household scale? Like the kind you can stand on and see how much you weigh? At my house, we have my dad get on the scale, weigh himself, and then hold the suitcase in his arms close to his body. Then, he takes that weight and subtracts HIS weight from that number and gets the suitcase weight. =3
Hope that wasn't confusing, and hope it helps! =3
Nope, that makes perfect sense!
I don't have one, but I did just hear from my friend that she's going to brings hers over to assist me. And I plan to do just that, since I can hold it just fine. It is considerably larger than me.. but hopefully the scale won't notice.
Thanks. c:
Don't forget you can have two small bags on board with you. Carry the Wii on with you.
Take out your books and ship them via Media Mail. It's a hella lot cheaper if you are moving within the continental USA.
If you're willing to risk it, wrap your video games up in bubble wrap and send them off as books. You'll be taking a gamble because they might open it up to verify the contents, but if they see you bring in books to the post office and wrap them up there, you can sneak the games in. ;) Games are not media mail.
