Lakeside Resort..make an alert?

I'm just wondering but what does the ''make an alert'' link do in the Lakeside Resort? I ended up clicking on it by mistake and I'm not sure what it will do. And ofcoarse as usually no one has said anything about making changes, so I have no idea about it.

It gives you an alert when your pet gets out of the resort.
