Hah. I've never actually wanted to turn my pet back into a common pet until now. I bought the common potion, but when I try and use it, it says it's an invalid combination.

It might be a glitch. I tried to use the same potion on my priggle and it didn't work. Instead I just bought the priggle elixir. Maybe you can try that? Buying the basic elixir?

The common potion is glitched. You're supposed to make a ticket since it is supposed to work and the powers that be will change your pet for you.
