I'm confused...What's with all the kidnappings?

It is part of the plot :) The war part of the plot is over, so you can't join a side right now. I'm not sure if this will change when they update again, though.

Just look back in the news, you can read all about the plot there. Unfortunately the war part is over right now... :(
