Do the stockings open on Christmas? Or do the events show up when someone puts something in your stocking?

All stockings open automatically on Luminaire day, and a bunch of events pop up on the same day that say which gift is from whom.

I think it was a little later, like how the quests don't reset at exactly midnight either. I honestly don't remember the time last year though, sorry. ):
