If i use the item and get my pet slot... do I have to have a GA to fill it in? Also how do you know when your GA is over?

Yes, you'll need to have an active GA :) And you can see when your GA expires at your preferences page.

You also get an alert on your events that says that your GA has expired.

That is is so uncool. :C
