When I try to challenge an opponent, my pet, Moonscale, doesn't show up as a choice to fight. It was like this last week, and still today, it doesn't work. :( Does anyone know why? Does it happen to anyone else?

Is it happy/fed/healed?

Pets have to be fed and happy in order to battle.

EDIT: Wait a minute, actually... All my other pets are well fed, happy, and healed. They are in the resort. But Moonscale is Starving and Very Happy so I guess he's not in the resort. But when I go to the resort, there is no option to put Moonscale IN it. :( Another problem.

I've heard once a while ago that the lowest option of the resort is like your pet being thrown a scrap of bread and a glass of water. It's not enough to keep them completely satisfied. Don't know if it's still that way.
