So, who's playing it and what are your opinions for far? I went to the midnight launch at the gamestop near me for it, haha.
I have mixed feelings about it though. I love the freedom it gives you for exploring/sailing, etc. And the smaller changes that make combat a little easier. But I feel like the plot is kind of of under-developed and I can't seem to get mindlessly sucked into it like I did with the others. :c
As one who just finished it, it's excellent. Everyone hear knows that I am an all around Ezio Auditore fangirl, Edward's also managed to steal my heart. I won't spoil anything but I think AC4 is very much one of the better games (and I'm sorry people aren't getting that. x_x)
My midnight launch was crazy, lmao. I've never seen that many people at my Gamestop or in that parking lot either.

Now that I've stopped sucking at naval combat I like it a lot more lmfao. It has like the best soundtrack though, seriously. I still like Haytham better, though Edward is pretty badass. I'm not quite sure if I like it more than 3 though, I think it's a tie. :3
To be quite honest, I loathed every second of AC3. The only redeeming aspect of AC3 was the DLC, that should have been the main game, imho.
The naval combat in AC4 has been so vastly improved, it's ridiculously fun. I have the Jackdaw upgraded to the point of I can just rain hell on smaller, weaker ships though the legendary ships are like the epitome of OMGWTFBBQAHHHHHHH. Seriously, don't do that unless you've maxed out the Jackdaw. XDD

Haha, I know I'm in the minority, but AC3 was my favorite by far. Though, I agree the DLC is better than the main game's plot. I'm one of the few who doesn't hate on Connor. XD He's no Ezio, but well... I still like him as a character, even if he is a naive twat. The naval combat is so much better in this game though. I nearly hated it in 3. I been spending more time blowing up ALL THE SHIPS than like actually doing anything, lol.
That's okay. c: AC3 does have some cute parts, I'll admit.
Indeed, he isn't Ezio but at the same time, I know better than to say "WAAAHHHH! I WANT MY EZIO." Because people get really snide about people "comparing" Assassins and I get really tired of that really fast.
I like blowing the ships up in AC4, lmao. I have the Jackdaw's ram upgraded as far as it'll go, I just have to bump into smaller ships and BOOSH, incapacitated. XD

lmfao I did the same thing and desynchronized myself on that mission where you have to go diving for the medicine. ...I accidentally ran into blackbeard's ship and very nearly killed it. derp. And comparing the assassin's is just... ugh. Drama. They all have their own personalities/history. Though I kind of feel like an ass anyway because my all time favorite character is a templar anyway. dies
My favorite character will always be Ezio, though Edward's tied for that.
Noooo, not the Queen Anne's Revenge. XDD Captaining that thing was so much fun, omg. The firepower on that thing is incredible.

(I hope this thread isn't too old for me to be posting...) I really enjoyed ac4, I loved the story (and I loved Mary Read >:3) and the locations were beautiful and interesting - the observatory and Mayan locations were my favorite.
However there are a lot of things that I'm rather upset about with the direction Ubisoft is going in. I found the combat and parkour mechanics too streamlined, I felt like I was playing less and being more of a spectator, and generally felt more restricted with what I was doing. The naval combat was improved and is pretty fantastic, and it is wonderful to see something new in this series, but when it comes down to it, I want to assassinate and explore the past with as much freedom as possible, and I just felt constrained here. Really though, Ubisoft keeps saying that they won't go certain places because it isn't optimum for their mechanics, but I felt like the landscape here was generally not made for climbing. Regarding the naval aspects, I truly hope that they either dim it down or just remove it entirely. I did enjoy fighting and capturing ships, but doing all the naval contracts was a complete drag, and sailing from place to place was tiresome (I was reminded of Wind Waker, however back then I would just leave Link sailing while I went and made tea or something :P)
It sounds like I have a lot of problems with this game (ehhe) but I really did have fun and was playing for days straight. I enjoyed it more then ac3 (I think my problem with ac3 was a great dislike of the location) but the first game will probably always be my favorite.
I adored the modern day portions, I just wish it had been longer P: but I really miss controlling Desmond and was hoping we would get a new protag, but I don't think that's going to happen any time soon.
I didn't think that ac4 had an underdeveloped plot though, what makes you say that?
Enlighten me: weak story line?

Sorry? I think you misunderstood, I was wondering why Elf thought that the "plot [was] kind of of under-developed". I have never thought that any of the ac games had weak story lines :3
Aha. XD I did say to enlighten me.

I felt like it started out a little slow, and nothing really like sucked me into the plot at first, it took being about halfway through the game to really be totally absorbed in it. I'm not complaining though - I really love this game. (and yes, Mary is awesome and man I cried so hard...) I like 3 better, but I'm biased based on my interest in native american culture and being a pathetic Haytham fangirl. Also, I live close to/spend a lot of time New York and some of the places that were in 3 so it made it really interesting.
I admit, I haven't read any of the other comments on here haha. My question is, can I just pick up and play ACIV and go for gold or do you recommend starting from the original game? Wondering if it follows a story across all the games? Yes, I admit, I have never played an AC game, although I have heard they are amazing. Thank you :).
actually, ACIV is probably the only one you can pick up and play and have the modern times storyline still make sense, haha. But if all you care about is the historical parts, you can play any of them, but I would play play II, brotherhood and revelations in order at least.
Just saw this thread. I LOVE it. My favorite things are sinking/boarding ships and hunting. I like exploring shipwrecks, but hate when there are sharks around. I don't know if I'm missing something or not, but it seems impossible to stay out of their sight. I've finished the story and am now in the process of going around and collecting all the fragments and chests and finishing assassination and naval contracts.
