Maybe there could be a really really rare fruit from the Ikumoradeekanox Tree that gives an extra pet slot so the users who don't have cash to spend or totems have a chance (albeit random) at an item that gives them a slot.
A flower for me?

I don't see any need for this. CSC can be purchased with sP from other users, as well as you can choose a pet slot totem from your loyalty box every year after you have been here two years.
As much as I would love this... I'm pretty sure this would never happen xD; There's a pet slot cap in place outside of special circumstance things (like when Keith gives out a free slot or so because of a reason), and a very controlled means of gaining +1 a year after that.
if there was just a random fruit that gave someone a free slot.. people like me would buy them as soon as they touched the open market and I'd have 150 pet slots and then there would be boards going "The same twenty people keep buying all the fruits and no one can afford them and I haven't even gotten one from the tree what about those of us who can't afford it" and it would be an endless cycle of the same users having more and more and more pets and then the servers would explode.
Hence why there's a pet slot cap that's raised by 1 each year. For free, too. PLus pet slots are only 1k csc during black friday, you can't get much cheaper than that.
Yeah, definitely not. You get a free pet slot every year. If you don't have the cash or sP to buy CSC for paid pet slots, that's kind of too bad imo. Not everyone can afford extra pet slots, not everyone can afford CWs either but we don't give those away from random site features.
I'm pretty much going to echo what Andrea said, because yeah.. if this were possible there'd be a whole slew of pet people hoarding these items just to get pet slots and admittedly I'd probably be one of them.
As such, I don't really think this will ever be possible.
Echoing everything said. Too many problems would come from this. And it's not that hard to save up to buy the CSC you need for a pet slot. You can buy it from other users with sP, afterall.
We already have an item that can give a free pet slot : it's called a loyalty box.
If you cannot save money or CSC to buy pet slots, you'll have to deal without them. That's life, pet slots are a luxury, not something owed to you
With the risk of sounding like a broken record, there is so much potential for abuse with this thing. (Admittedly, I would probably hoard those fruits, if they became a thing. So please, no.)
I see no reason why there couldn't be a rare drop that gives pet slots. The price would hover right around the price of the already existing ones, there'd just be a small chance at getting one from actually using a site feature rather than grinding for SP to buy CSC for a pet slot. I don't see how there'd be potential for abuse, people who are going to buy pet slots are going to buy them regardless, since CSC can be obtained with SP anyways.
Because we already have a site feature giving out pet slots for free, we don't need two. The fact that loyalty boxes are no sell/no trade prevent inflation abuse.
And, have people have a "one click = get an item worth 2000 CSC" for FREE bothers me. Even the potion lottery isn't free. Even vending isn't free. Having SELLABLE pet slots being given for free is a nonsense We need more reasons to get people to buy from the cashshop, other than "WEASR!!!!11111" not less.
If people don't want to grind for 2000 CSC, don't do it. You have 10 pet slots + loyalty boxes, having 30+ pets isn't something meant to be easy peasy.
The price of buying a pet slot is less than submitting a custom wig. It's not that expensive anymore. Yeah, when it was 6000 CSC/10 000 CSC per slot/for two slots, there was grinding involved.
But, on black friday, where it's 1000 CSC for a slot...really? Especially since you can plan ahead for Black Friday
yeah, i still don't see how it'd be a problem if it had a super low drop rate, like the riptide or something (which has an abp of approx 50m). that aside, while we -do- have a feature that gives pet slots, it's once a year and there are other options. not every always takes the pet slots. plus, you can build up about 33m SP for black friday, or wait out a year for a free pet slot.
heck, if the chance at an extra slot has to cost something, maybe if the idea is revised they'll put in a super special orchard where you can go pick from super special trees for 25 CSC or 250 tokens or something for a chance at stat boosters and ooh la layers and pet slots 1 week GA and shit.
Is there a logical reason other than "PET SLOTS ARE TOO EXPENSIVE, I CAN'T AFFORD THEM" to have this feature. In my eyes, there isn't one.
Add to it that a fruit would be edible, meaning that most of the ones picked are going to be fed to pets, accidentally or on purpose, sorta ruining the point.
If the drop rate is super rare, most people are going to be purchasing them via SP or CSC which has been turned into SP via cash shop investments or straight sold in the Exchange/User Shops. It's not going to be cheap unless you actually get lucky enough to find one. I -also- don't see how introducing something similar to OP's original idea equates to the idea that pet slots are super expensive, nor do I see where in my posts I've attempted to push that idea. It seems to me you're just shitting on the idea because you don't like it. It actually kind of feels like you didn't read my original response at all TBH.
edit: as an addendum, because i don't feel like making a whole new post, i would also like to point out that the majority of naysayers in this thread have 15+ pets already. =|

Because I'm greedy, I do like this idea. I wouldn't mind if such an item can only be gotten by users who otherwise absolutely cannot buy pet slots. And I mean the site won't allow them to, not because the user can't afford it. I also wouldn't mind if such an item was account bound, and be an absurdly rare find.

Thing is, pet slots are a feature that a number of people on site want, and in most cases, are not really wiling to give out. I could see a number of people hyper inflating the prices knowing that pet people would be more than willing to pay those prices, so a bunch of sp entering the subeta economy itself, but not a lot actually exiting or being spread around so to speak, especially if a bunch of people get it and then just hoard the majority of them without selling them.
and no, to the special tree idea. It kind of defeats the purpose of pet slots to have them be from a random csc event that costs that low, namely because pet slots in general were never meant to be allowed in the first place. They were always, always meant to be specifically for a select minority of people on site willing to pay for the privilege of having them, and not necessarily meant to be for all, or those who weren't willing to invest in what was required to get a huge number of slots.
I would sooner pay for more pet slots than have something like this. Vending shouldn't be used for something as valuable as pet slots in my opinion. I have a feeling it would create a lot of drama as well.
The pet slot fruit will not solve your Manchu problem. You will still be locked at the maximum. So, it will be a thing you, or I, cannot use because we are already at the limit. Just like putting an item similar to Oh La La Layers will not allow people to have more than 6 items for a layer. It will provide an alternative, but it won't make the limit higher, because Keith likes having a cap.
The only way to go beyond the limit is loyalty boxes. It's the exception because they are a reward for something excellent (being on site for more than 2 years, and then every year after this) rather than being a game of luck and money. So, the fruits, if they were to be implemented, won't do the same as loyalty pet totems.
They're going to do the same time as mystical plushies and pet slots in the cash shop, go up to the limit, but never go past it. Why? Because have a SP item go beyond the limit would be totally broken. If such a thing happens, it's going to stick by the limit and not bypass it. If it bypassed, it would open the door to infinite pet slots for certain users.
Pet slots are already so devalued it's not even funny. Again, when I originally went to 15 pets, it costed me...
