There is no other way to send pets I don't think, but I'm not 100% on that. And Evyvo will turn back into a common once he leaves your account. Hydrus pets will only remain hydrus if they stay with you.

You can go to your pet's page and click "Send Pet to Friend" now, but Hydrus pets turn common once they leave your account.
