So I was thinking... could there be a way to put a "Don't open until X date" or a "Can be opened on X date".
I'd like to be able to pre-send gifts but not allow the user to open them until the specific date
//It's different than trees because this could last all year long and it also could show a user sent you a gift unlike the trees which are a sort of trust game

I may end up being in the minority but I'd really dislike this. I don't like the idea of a bunch of boxes taking up space in my inventory until I can open them... and on the other end, I hate the idea of forgetting the boxes are even there (if they get lost among hundreds of inventory items) and never opening them at all.
Well gifts don't even go into the inventory anymore. They could also have their own category in the new giftwrap section as well as send a ping when they are ready to be opened.

Goddammit you're right. I am so bad with change it takes me years to remember things like this. Well now that you've reminded me of that, especially with the addition of a ping when it's time to open them, I definitely support it.
Ahahaha, yay xD Yeah, this idea would be horrible if they had to take up inventory space.

I suggested something like this on the feedback thread for the new gifting page. Would love to see this happen. It's already possible with CSC items, so it shouldn't be too hard to implement a similar feature for this. With a small fee for sending gifts at a certain time, it could be a nice sP sink too.
would be cute but i know that i would only use it to send my friends horrible cheap gifts dated to be opened 100 years in the future
Haha that ^^ made me laugh. :D But seriously, I do love this idea. You could pre-send all sorts of gifts such as birthdays. You could buy things throughout the year and send them to be opened on their birthday so you can collect things before and not just mass buy in a rush and be left with no sP. I'd love this. :)
I like this idea but I'd prefer it if the items didn't show on the other person's account when they're sent... as in, I would send a gift today, scheduled for a week from now, and the system would "eat" it (keeping a record somewhere) and deliver it on the day it should be opened. However, with the amount of glitches we still have and the condition the servers seem to be depending on the time of the year (what if there's a massive event starting on the delivery day, etc), I wouldn't trust subeta for that right now :/ Maybe after the promised revamp.
I don't entirely dislike the idea of gifts that are delivered but can't be opened, yet getting my gift page crowded with unopened things would probably tickle my OCD and/or make me anxious... even on a different category :c So if this is implemented, I'd prefer it having a very short time limit, definitely not months :x
[edit] If this comes live, then I definitely think the suggestion of getting birthday notifications a few days (maybe a week?) before should happen, too!
Rather than having scheduled gifts showing in your gift page, unable to be opened, how about a page where the sender can see all the gifts they have scheduled? Columns showing Item - Recipient - Scheduled Date. Maybe show which wrapping paper you used too.
There could also be a chance to edit things before the gift is sent. Change your message, or the wrapping paper. Add or remove items from the gift box. Perhaps a "Send Now" button, if you decide to send the gift sooner rather than wait for the scheduled date (if there is going to be a charge for scheduling gifts, you would not get sP back for sending gifts sooner). A "Cancel" button would probably be a good idea too.
Once the chosen date comes around, the gift shows up in the recipient's gift page and they can open it as normal. There could be something to indicate that the gift was successfully received, and you can delete the info from your list of scheduled gifts.
