The Dragarth has been given a makeover! :)

GUYS. Does it matter if Chim accepts the criticism or not? The Dragarth's been revamped, Whether You All Like It Or Not, and you can criticize all you want, but it won't make Chim take it down and edit it to Your sweet favor. If anything, she may use your critique on her next works, who knows. :3
We try to be rather open to the public here, as staff. Really, sometimes it has its faults, but it's nice being able to actually...well, speak with users, for better or worse. XD
(And incidentally? I think the head is big, too. But the original had a big head, so I went with it.
See?)
Awh, I think it looks fine. It's not as if they gave it an elephant's nose, or flipped it upside-down and made it stand on its head. Plus, I prefer wings that are more anatomically correct (as in attached to the majority of the back instead of just the shoulders)
Now I'm considering getting one. :?
Oh, and Chimaera, no. A good artist knows to respond graciously to critique and quietly discard the crits that don't help. Some people are going to say useless things - that is the nature of the internet. Getting up in arms about it is an awfully childish thing to do. And let's face it: it's human nature to enjoy complaining, especially on sites like this. They don't really mean anything by it, and it's nothing against you personally unless you decide to make it personal (which, again, you don't have to do). It's not that they don't appreciate the admins' and artists' hard work; it's just that they don't think. People are like that.
AND I'M SURE I WILL GET USED TO THE HEAD. XP
The thing that confuses me is that why does the feli get the option of a poll yet the dragarth does not? Why can the feli have crits but this one cant? :/ I know the feli is more popular, but I think it would be good to kind of give all pets the same respect when revamping. I thought it was please the user/customer...
I mean, not as an artist, but as a staff/admin in general. Staff and Admins from other sites you hardly get to see, much less comment on their work. I think this site does a good job with communicating with other users, though this might be getting a bit out of hand.
I thought the galactic dragarth didn't look very much like the original common dragarth.....
The body and wing anatomy is lovely, and the shading on this little creature is a treat! Love the way the tail curls round the feet.
However, that said - the face bothers me... there is something slightly out of place about the horn on the right side of his head... and as has been said he looks in need of a haircut, as the tuft looks a little awkward. And sad-to-say the grin bothers me also... I think a different expression would be better...
It's more a combined decision. Once the artist director(s) and Keith are all happy with it (and usually the vast majority of the staff artist team after heavy critting); then it's deemed ready. :3 Not when just one person is happy.
It doesn't, Trick. Revamps are purely Keith's decision, which is why he released this news post. I drew the revamp, yes, but it was up to him to decide whether he even wanted it. It's been seen by both him and , and critiqued by the other artstaff.
exactly my point, Chim.
and that post was directed at Javados; I see nothing wrong with a little groveling at good artists, but taking it as far as saying we need to be grateful you are replying, well that's a whole different turning point. I am aware you did not say this, it was another user.
As the artist directer (And strangely also an artist) doesn't it actually fall to you to decide when a pet is read yo be released?
I'm not attacking Tate O_O I'm sharing my opinion. I said what I liked and what I thought need to be improved, I was sharing my crits from one artist to another ^^; Lord knows the dragarth needed a new look, and this one was good, it just has a lot of improvement that could be made
And no, I'm not a deity (please don't speak of me as such, as that's a shoe I have no hope of ever filling). I'm an artist, and a human--and I talk to anyone who decides to talk to me. But just as you can voice your opinions, I can do the same.

Not every artist liked critique, but everyone should be happy that Chim even considers your existance. Some artists think their work is perfect and doesn't care what anyone else says.Your post is a little contradicting. She's not really even accepting our critism. And why are you placing her as a god. No offense to the artist. I'm just saying, we're all people here. No one is better than the other. You shouldn't be like 'So and so thinks you're cool enough to talk to!' This is a pet site, not highschool. Okay fine, a crit? I really don't like how the back leg suddenly slants. Doesn't match with the front paw..
The different angle on the head makes it look a little bit odd, but that aside, the revamp is adorable. And Dragarths have definitely been needing it.
No. You're perhaps thinking of what makes a "good" artist in terms of a subservient one. Anyone who pays any attention whatsoever to the comments and news posts that crop up during a revamp would know that there are always people complaining about the exact opposite things. So a 'good' artist is supposed to take every critique, regardless of any merit behind them, and attempt to please people that can never be pleased one way or another?
I know some of you will cause a riot because Keith deemed this revamp worth using right away, without your input. But we can sit all night (or all day based on timezone) and argue about this, and it won't change it. The Dragarth had horrendously outdated art, we tried a revamp with the galactic version and the response was favorable, so we went with this.
Obviously you can't please everyone, but it's absolutely ridiculous when people throw fits because their opinions won't be taken as reason to change it to their liking. Not that we aren't used to such a thing in these parts, mind you. ![]()
I agree with Trick..... and Javados "but everyone should be happy that Chim even considers your existance" what is that supposed to mean? I think you need to realize that despite the fact that the artists may be busy and they have thei fanbase they are not some kind of deity that we need to feel graced by because they talk to us ._.

; border: 1px solid ; font-family: georgia; font-size: 10;">Posted by JacketsFreak, the idea of a 'vintage' potion was brought up when Suggestions /Ideas was an actual forum. The problems with it are that some pets have had MULTIPLE redraws, as well as old art often times being scrapped entirely from the site once a redraw has been finalised.
.. Plus.. a lot of the older versions of a lot of species really suck, so it'd be embarrassing to still have them running around on the site. xD
I'm sorry. I disagree. Being staff does not give ANYONE (not even artists) the right to talk to users like this.
I don't think that she's just ignoring us and not listening, I think it's just that there are people complaining and whining about revamps and they need to just handle it =S
I actually like the revamp, and I liked the old one. Not every artist liked critique, but everyone should be happy that Chim even considers your existance. Some artists think their work is perfect and doesn't care what anyone else says. I like how the artists of this site talk with everyone. Even how the staff communicate is a wonder. Any other pet sites/ sites in general have staff that hide behind walls just because they don't feel like dealing with people. But, I can say I like the dragarth and think it's nicely done, and I don't think it's too cutesy. I mean, if you never realized it, most of the other pets look cutesy, too. But, if you can't handle cute things, then get a graveyard pet or something.
i don't have a dragarth, but seeing these cuties makes me wish for more pet space.
I think the redraw is darling ![]()
My last post, because I don't want this to start something. But, you comment of "Everyone's a critic, including people with no concept of anatomy and/or perspective whatsoever." kinda makes me think that you DO think this particular work is perfect. You're making it seem as if the people commenting don't know what they are talking about.
Okay. Done now.
Funny thing is, I thought what made a good artist was taking critique well and improving with it. If you can't take it, why be an artist? Not everyone is gonna like your work... and you never took critique from all the people here, so a poll would have been best. Look how many people dislike it. That shows that something could be learned here... yes?
eh....eew...sorry, but I don't like the face...it look's like a baby now :/ I miss the cool facial expression they had before they were revamped...
Listen. One thing you all need to come to terms with is the fact that things -are- going to be changed, pets -are- going to be updated, and so on, and you may or may not have a chance to give your input. None of you know whether or not I had any critiques given on this pet, and none of you know whether I took them. You may very well hate a revamp, but that doesn't mean everyone else does, and my not taking -your- critique does not make me any less of an artist, nor does it make me think my work is perfect.
id still get a malticorn and vintage its behind right back into being a slushii over having a revamped feli anyday
Sorry, I wasn't finished still. You also cannot be considered a true artist if you never listen to any critique, or if you live in your own world of thinking everything is perfect. Sure, you may be happy, but you'll improve at a much slower rate, and you'll more likely rather than not fail/get fired from proffesional jobs. Critique is vital to all people who would like to consider themselves an artist, regaurdless of how good they are. This isn't an attack against you understand, your a wonderfull artist in my opinion, but you can't just look the other way when people try to give some simple crits on what their seeing...
AWWW!
As a dragarth owner, I am VERY pleased with the redraw ![]()
Freak, the idea of a 'vintage' potion was brought up when Suggestions /Ideas was an actual forum.
The problems with it are that some pets have had MULTIPLE redraws, as well as old art often times being scrapped entirely from the site once a redraw has been finalised.
Thank you, Kabutos. .__. It's not just me.
Okay, so usually I am not favoritive to any of the revamps.. but this is actually one of the better ones ![]()
please god somebody make a 'vintage' potion so we can have our old pets back..
I like it better than the old one n__n; I agree with some of the crit given but it definitely is a revamp XD in my opinion however.
dude.. your artists have to stop ripping off other websites..
No offense Tate, you know I love you, but I also know anatomy. Am I saying I could do a better job? Not at all, but I /know/ that you can, and you have, theres not reason to get upset or offended at all
The art's nice. It really is. It's just that a few things bother me about the new Dragarth... For instance, it's new smile tends to make it look a bit.... goofy. The body is nice, particularly the wings, and the shading is, as always, beautiful. It's just something about that head that bothers me.
I may not particularly like the cute tendency of it, but that is simply in accordance with the personality of my own Dragarth. This makes a good generality for people to build characters off of.
BTW, this was intended as CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. I do not intend to insult the artist in any way, shape, or form.
Ohpleasedon'tletthissitemakeallpetscutseylikeacertainothersite. The art is better, but the cutseyness cringe
And just to clear things up for everyone.
I updated the art, and changed a few things (the structure of the wings, etc). But I kept the exact same pose and proportions as the original dragarth. So if you think the head is big, it's because the old dragarth had a big head. If you think the nose is square, it's because the old dragarth had a square nose, and so on.
You're welcome to your thoughts, but I'm bored and it's late, so I very well may respond in kind. ![]()
Aaaaand just realised we can't vote.. ... ouch
Honestly, I prefer the old one
I think it's the eyes
There's something about them that makes me cringe
Anatomy, no.
Perspective? Yes. Please try again. ![]()
Oh, I like it
Though I think the head is a little bit too big
... maybe it's just me. xD I'm not that good when it comes to anatomy...
The face sort of reminds me of Barney aswell..
;;;
I liked the old one better..
Erm. Personally I think the ghostly needed a revamp WAY more. But to each their own I suppose.
"Everyone's a critic, including people with no concept of anatomy and/or perspective whatsoever."
I might not be an ARTIST, but I CAN see that the front paw in the background looks off. It has nothing to do with anatomy. The 'fingers' are way thinner than the other.
Everyone's a critic, including people with no concept of anatomy and/or perspective whatsoever.
It's okay, though.
The dragarths -sorely- needed an update...and voila, now they don't. ![]()
[Don't listen to anyones criticism]
No offense but if an artist can't listen to critism...I don't think it's a good thing.
Anyway. I miss the attitude the old dragarth had. And the spunk the DM one had. The muzzle wasn't like a brick from what I remember... I don't know. The mouth REALLY irks me... sorry.
I think it looks great. I love updated art.
