Maybe I'm just biased against the RNG, but I like the idea of ones that we have work for better than ones based on luck. So I'm fine with this border, and it helps that it's not confined to this holiday.

Like I said, , we're working on making sure there are borders going out in various ways! Some are specific to events, like the quest-a-thon, while some are related to holiday things. There are some that are pure chance. I'm working on making one job related (which will be fun to test with haha). I want users to have to work and do something for the majority of them. Some will be limited, some available year round, etc. I don't want to put these in any one box if that makes sense?

I mean if the items had been finite old items AND consumable collection items, well yeah that would been considerably worse.

So I'm not saying these need to be easy. I did every single quest-a-thon quest to guarantee getting a gold border. Every. Single. Quest. and I am 100% fine with that. I am fine with tedious commitments, long patient waits, etc. I am fine with some borders being very hard to obtain. I'm also ok with them being awarded entirely randomly, like the tempest border.

But here's the thing. Borders have been set up as very special things. When they were introduced they were been awarded for effort. As a way to say "I was there and I did that thing." They've been set up as something anyone can get if they care enough and put in the time and energy, or patience, not just something you can buy. If that game design philosophy is changing, if borders are no longer about achievement and just about buying stuff or being lucky enough to be online before a price shoots into the sky, It just changes their value in my eyes. They become something different than I thought they were.

Anyway, just my thoughts. It really is lovely, btw. And someone put a lot of effort into drawing it. I would like to put genuine effort into earning it.

I was thinking like the never ending snake thing but instead it’s a centipede around the border. The artist did not like that idea hahahahaha. :) Nothing is being skipped, just not released in the time frame people might expect is all. As far as the pride borders, I’m aiming for some more general ones before we get into the wide range of sexualities and gender identities. I’d rather start small and build off that! I actually had a meeting with all the artists today to talk Pride and other things and that was my big point. Start with something small and build off throughout the year so artists aren’t burned out with a billion things to do.

that's not new either; it's how achievements worked for ages, and it's the same deal with item revamps? people think they can make a profit, and then wipe out the available stock. i suppose it's a surprise to you since you joined around the time we stopped getting new achievements like this, but it's been a long running joke that you should hoard everything in case something's revamped or used for an achievement.

Bug catching is coming back? But didn't you say bird watching was coming back too, or are you skipping that again?

Also, yes, it is inconvenient that this requires retired sbq items, but at least it's one that you can work for and not awarded based on luck like the past 3 borders have been. And you can always borrow the items if you really don't want to wait until you can get them yourself.1

Also, I hope the pride borders include ace (they probably will).

I personally disagree with Drills not being worth it. While I will say that most of the items he gives out aren't good, I generally get at least one expensive item on average that makes doing his quests for the day worth it. I've also gotten a couple dozen retired and still-running SbQ items from him. I think I got a Lyrical Anyu item either the day of or day after it was released. I do recognize that I might be an outlier, though, and some people might disagree with me.

It's still RNG, which can still be argued isn't great, but I actually like him (though I have to say, I absolutely hate the Slots task >.<)

People complain about everything that’s released, and yet others complain that not enough is released. What’s the right answer here? Like, how does staff win?

My problem with Drills is that, in the time that I would finish one of his quests, I could made far more items by other means, so they don't seem that cost-effective at least to me. Maybe if he decided to give items that, while cheap, are more useful in theory than the regular low-rarity items he awards? Wizard Tokens come to mind as a regular "consolation" reward instead of the low rarity items. As well as Morty Cards, Pet Treasure Boxes and the like for higher tier rewards.

I just got a retired SBQ and I got a weapon worth 10mill from him last month, so it's been worth it to me so far. I only mentioned it as another way retired SBQ can get circulated again since I know the chance machine isn't the only way. That is all.

Amber already said items might unretire in the future, though, so that's enough for me to now leave this at that. I don't think being so passive-aggressive is a good thing, tho. All that will do is make people feel even worse.

I requested just one long centipede around the border but the artist shot me down real fast, ha! And honestly, I’ve really dropped the ball on replying to y’all lately (especially on the forums).

I’m totally fine if people don’t agree with our decisions but as long as they aren’t rude to other users, I’m happy to reply with my reasoning or whatever. I know y’all care a lot, like clearly wants to make sure things remain fair and I respect that. I know so many of you are loud and angry about things because you care so much about the site.

If y’all have suggestions to make something like Major Drills worth it again, tag me! Even if it’s just adding more tiers or something.

It's like that on any site, it's not fair but we can't stop people from buying and hoarding the items. I don't even know what the items from Esther is needed in the first place and I wouldn't want to ask anyone to borrow all the items. Be fun at a later point to earn the achievement since missed quite a few of the avatar borders over the year.

I have to agree with her. This is part of the reason why this bugs me, yet things like the "Its just a little bit of sP... " achievement are fine by me. Because the item "Ether" is always available! You can take your time and not deal with such fluctuations. Maybe a fallacy, but it seems much more "fair" to me.

I think people here on subeta are far more kind, trusting, and open to sharing than folks on neo were.

Amber stated that folks are able to get the retired set items through the chance machines, and that the set could possibly become unretired at some point. This achievement isn't time-based, and honestly, there's a lot on this site that's very easy to accomplish so it's nice having something to work towards/is hard to get. If you don't want to be lent the items there are still ways to get them.

I ask that you please don't @ me again about this topic. I was not talking directly to you at first and my original comment was me sharing my .02 on the topic re: obtaining the items needed for this achievement. Thank you!

We're working on making the avatar borders all be different ways of getting them. A lot have depended on luck (and prayers), like tempest and the dancing. Some require you to participate the bare minimum or doing awesome (quest-a-thon). There's one in the summer I'd like to do regarding bug catching. I was discussing with an artist about some very easy peasy ones to get for Pride. There was always going to be one that required you to get a set of items. I made it wardrobe so that people could lend (instead of being a butthole and doing something you HAD to put in collection). I don't plan on having any more borders of this nature, I just wanted to get the one out of the way. :)

To be clear, I'm not complaining about users charging lots of sp, that's up to them and good for them. Anyone with the items is well within their rights to exploit the rush for all its worth.

I just don't like that the rush was deliberately created when the achievement could have been something fun and engaging for people to do, rather than something frustrating and all about money.

I usually play Subeta "in the shadows" and do not communicate with many users, partly because the community seems so unwelcoming to new people, so I like to keep to myself. i just want to point out that achievements like this new one that use items from mixed sources (event, restocking, retired) aren't anything new? there are loads of them in the food section alone (and we could use more!), we just haven't had a new achievement like this in a very long time.

Oh thanks goodness then, thank you if that's true. Now that we are talking about the rift... Do you think you could have a look at it? I am pretty sure the rift seems to favor giving cheap and common "retired" items instead of giving the highly expensive ones. I am not sure if that's intended or not. The special dances of Masquerade were also giving what seemed to be a certain limited pool of retired items (and I suppose these two might share the same item pools somehow?)

I can count with one hand the amount of ice statues I have gotten from both. it's not much, but it's weird that this happens that often.

I thought they all would have the same rates of appearing, so no item is "rarer" than other and it's all blind luck.

Don't you dare talking about lending items! I know this is not longer factual but it may help others understand where my view comes from: Those sucked! Being lent items and rely on the mercy of people was the worst! I faced some serious insecurities due to that. "Why will no one lend me? Is there something wrong with me? I am not good enough?" It was so bad that I had to get extremely filthy rich in [CERTAIN PET WEBSITE] to pay full collateral for lending (I got well over 500M+ nps before getting hacked and never looking back)
