Experiment Pet Poll Results

Well, future customers and most excellent funders of the One True Zapper. I have quite some news for you. Thanks to your generosity, I find myself practically swimming in money overwhelmed with donations. Owing to the results of my poll, I believe I may have more than enough to fulfil the desires of certain experiment lovers. The results of the poll were as follows:

1. Experiment with 870,500,000
2. Experiment with 857,100,000
3. Experiment with 302,100,000
4. Experiment with 248,350,000
5. Experiment with 208,100,000

As you can see, there were two contenders that zapped into the lead and - to let you in on a little behind the scenes fun - remained very much neck and neck throughout the donation period. It was very tense.

The donations were so high, in fact, that I believe I may be able to turn BOTH of these top contenders into full pets. I know, I said I would only do one! But I’m Euclid, the all powerful scientist - do you really want me to hold back on my constant and changing whims? Plus, the blob will be easy. Nobody is going to be worried about if its legs look anatomically correct or if it has furboobs.

So look forward to your future pets! Now I just need to come up with a name for them. I’m currently leaning towards ‘peabomination' and ‘blobface' but who knows what will happen while I’m tweaking my zapper. That’s not a euphemism. Get your mind out of the gutter. Maybe if you shout some suggestions at me some of them will influence my decisions. I can’t do all the work, people.

You can find it in the original post for this contest if you Ctrl+F Amber. I remember thinking it was a little dismissive at the time but I didn't think there would be people who would actually donate 200mill to this. I think they thought it worked with the charities (which was much more relax since we were only voting for priority and it wasn't a super important community decision), it'll be fine here too.

But- but sand kitty! ;) I totally expected the peacock to win, and even though it wasn't my choice, I can't wait to see what's done with it. The blob it a huge surprise- that'll really be interesting! But seriously, some of the butthurt going on here... O.o Deep breaths guys, deep breaths.

I actually see loads of potential for blob colors. I can think of ideas for most of the more creative colors just off the top of my head. Nostalgic: Play-Doh or Silly Puddy (or slime or other similar toys, I'm rooting for Play-Doh, though), Glade: a grassy, flowery hill, or even a pile of mud with a single flower grown on top (although I realize that's pretty different from the usual glade look, but the visual in my head is pretty adorable), or perhaps a pile of petals and then the harvest version could be a pile of leaves, Sweetheart: could be a heart candy, could be a bonbon-like chocolate, maybe with a caramel center that's oozing out a bit, Darkmatter: Literally a darkmatter, maybe keeping its signature eyes instead of having the darkmatter eyes, Graveyard: Ok, scratch the pile of mud idea for glade and make THIS one a pile of mud, with a zombie hand bursting out of it, Hydrus: they could do a pile of seaweed, ooooor go with something oyster-like and have the blob sitting in a shell with a pearl nuzzled comfortably on top of it. That could look so legit depending on execution.

I've got more ideas.

Overall, I do agree with those that think it's more of a novelty pet than something someone would have because of character potential. Does depend on how the Subeta Team approaches the unique colors, though. I could see someone wanting a piece of chocolate or zombie-just-rising-from-the-grave to represent a pet character. But in general, yeah.

I was rooting for the squid, myself. (SQUIDS <3) but I'm still curious to see where the blob goes.

Some people here are being super rude, esp to the poor blob. We are lucky to have gotten two winners instead of one, congrats to them both! <3 All 5 were wonderful choices, and this is a win-win for everyone.

Maybe don't ruin people's fun?

Did they really say that?? That's not a great reason at all. How is Average Joe supposed to make 200 million in just a few days, without devoting a very strong majority of their time and energy on here? I can't do that. I have other priorities. Meanwhile, someone who has been here for years and is sitting on hundreds of millions of sP can just sit and click. Not that they didn't work for it or don't deserve it, but their voice makes my voice irrelevant.

I think they honestly just want the sP sink more than they want to admit. Or, despite how much I don't want to consider this, maybe they wanted to pressure people into buying CSC in order to sell it for sP. Either way, I still feel like our opinions are not really being taken into consideration.

I'm considering making a forum post in the morning about this for the sake of visibility. I'm so disappointed in staff for making this decision.

Hurray, two winners and both are the ones I wanted least of all! I honestly could care less about the blob and was hoping desperately that it wouldn't win, especially after seeing all the ideas people had. In all fairness, if things were fair to begin with the pangolin should've had more of a chance, daresay at least the squid.

Scribble was a joke color, and it's become extremely popular. I think chibi might have started the same way? But people love cute things, and it's a really popular color too.

Yes, a lot of people (including myself) threw money at the blob because it's funny. That doesn't mean it won't make a good pet. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Also, to put things into perspective: One 500 CSC card = 60,000,000 SP 2,000 CSC = 240,000,000

If I did my math right, first place totals little over $70 total.

I think what kills me most is that staff "gave us lots of time to earn sP for vote for our favourite pet" when people brought up concerns before. What I would have earned in that time-frame wouldn't have made a difference. All the pure I had in my account wouldn't have made a difference. In hind sight, I'm glad I didn't vote very much.

I hope staff rethinks future decisions but I kind of doubt it.

I think a lot of us have reason to be angry when this wasn't a fair poll at all and we're seeing that just some super rich users donated hundreds of millions of sP alone, practically throwing the whole thing? A ton of people, myself included, had their votes made completely pointless.

First I was SO SAD my blob didn't win, but YES YES THIS IS SO AMAZING. PeaDemon was my second pick (but blob got 100% of my sP), and they are BOTH going to be made. I am SO DAMN EXCITED. Cream Pie is going to be beautiful... As is Samandiriel.

To be honest, it was really hard for me to imagine any variations of the potential experiments as truly necessary for my characters so I had a hard time choosing. My first choice was because I am curious about how the special colors will be handled... My second choice was because I do think we need a cephalopod pet. However, I don't really like the design of (too happy, chubby baby looking for me... LOL) so I only voted for it a few times.

I am not surprised that won though. It is beautiful and if the voting had happened right after the Qrykee was introduced, I would have probably picked it based on looks alone.

My vote for is Peacora. I'd like to see named Glop or Gooey, just because I think those words are funny.

Wow, that is honestly upsetting. While I have a lot of valuable items, I don't even have that much pure sP on my entire account.

This is probably the most frustrated with this place I've been since I joined 3 years ago. It's honestly almost insulting that they consider this a true poll.

I hope and the rest of the staff sees where we are coming from.

Oh, man. Okay, the post is really funny, but this is... huh. I'm not mad at people for voting however they wanted, but it really is kind of disappointing that the blob pet won second and is being made into a full pet when it's... the only experiment of this group that actually looks like a cartoonish science failure, not a potential species. I'm sure that the artist for it will do their best to make sure the colors are creative and well-done, but it really did feel like a joke suggestion, and it doesn't fit in with the native species of Subeta in the way that the other experiments did. I really hope that it isn't impossible for the other experiments to eventually become pets too. A lot of people were so passionate about things like the squid and pangolin. I know the blob won out over them fair and square, but it just... seems like such a gimmicky pet and I really wonder how many people will end up owning them. I'm sure plenty of the people who donated to the blob did so because of potential for unique redraws, but there was also a strong feel of people supporting it as a joke, and I feel for the people who were so passionate about the others but didn't have the millions to throw at Euclid. The pets here are such an important part of the site for many people. I don't want to bash people who voted for the blob, but I hope that everyone can also understand why the idea of something that looks like it was included as a joke winning over three others that fit in so much better with the existing Subeta pets, is disheartening in a way.

how about Varmayil for the peacock? Varma means "protection" in Hindi, and Mayil is "peacock" also in Hindi. since the peacock is a revered bird in south-asia, and also it adds to the tiny pool of pets which start with V (aka velosotor huehe)

i also support with Umblorba for the blob, though i was also toying around with Urania, for Uranium, partly because its a silvery-black material, but mainly because honestly it just looks like a blob of radiation :'D

There's someone in the comments on this post who said they'd donated 200 million to the winner, so I think there's little doubt that you're right. This is exactly what I was trying to say in the previous post would happen with the results. And look. A ton of upset users who don't understand why their votes were essentially meaningless.

I genuinely loved the possibilities for this pet. I'm also shocked at how large a chunk of the donations was me ;; I swear it was only sP I made in less than a week from questing and vending, not excess savings to sink. But it did take a lot of clicking haha.

I really dislike the concept of pay-based polls.

A lot of us on here are well off, but there are a lot of users who don't have a lot of money. I know this is supposed to be an sP sink, but that's a very bad method of seeing what the community wants the most. More money does not necessarily reflect the level of community-wide desire. You can see this happen in actual society as well, where those with more money often have a bigger say in important matters as opposed to the poorer general community (not that these situations are the same--real life is real, and Subeta is a game). There's always the strong possibility of a few rich users easily able to donate 1, 10, 50, or 100 million sP on their own.

Had it been a standard vote poll with no money at all, I'm sure the gap between 2nd and 3rd would have been much smaller. In fact, I think it would have changed the order of winners as well.

To sum it up, this process isn't very democratic at all, and I hope that it doesn't happen again. These polls just make it seem like you care more about the sP sink than you do about our actual opinions. :/ is my favorite pet, but still, this is just overall a bad idea from my perspective. Take it for whatever that's worth.
