Experiment Pet Poll Results

Well, future customers and most excellent funders of the One True Zapper. I have quite some news for you. Thanks to your generosity, I find myself practically swimming in money overwhelmed with donations. Owing to the results of my poll, I believe I may have more than enough to fulfil the desires of certain experiment lovers. The results of the poll were as follows:

1. Experiment with 870,500,000
2. Experiment with 857,100,000
3. Experiment with 302,100,000
4. Experiment with 248,350,000
5. Experiment with 208,100,000

As you can see, there were two contenders that zapped into the lead and - to let you in on a little behind the scenes fun - remained very much neck and neck throughout the donation period. It was very tense.

The donations were so high, in fact, that I believe I may be able to turn BOTH of these top contenders into full pets. I know, I said I would only do one! But I’m Euclid, the all powerful scientist - do you really want me to hold back on my constant and changing whims? Plus, the blob will be easy. Nobody is going to be worried about if its legs look anatomically correct or if it has furboobs.

So look forward to your future pets! Now I just need to come up with a name for them. I’m currently leaning towards ‘peabomination' and ‘blobface' but who knows what will happen while I’m tweaking my zapper. That’s not a euphemism. Get your mind out of the gutter. Maybe if you shout some suggestions at me some of them will influence my decisions. I can’t do all the work, people.

Not that those aren't big numbers of sp donated but I honestly expected them to be quite a bit higher. I am happy with the results but would have liked to support with far more sp if it wasn't so tedious to click for every 50k. I'm also quite a bit surprised with the spread of sP donated I wonder whether there was just more very passionate people for the top 2 or if the average per person was pretty equal across the board.

The blob is unironically my favorite experiment, so I'm quite pleased by this outcome. I'm indifferent to the peacock, however, it's super cool that they both get to become full-blown pets! :)

I find it hard to believe these poll numbers are correct. Of all of them I cant see how a blob won over the pangolin. I know I donated quite a bit and basically wasted all my cash

I would like to be able to get one of each of these experiments in chibi form ❤. Why can't there be a zapper option to pay an amount of sP and wizard tokens to choose the experiment pet we would like to own please? This way the zapper doesn't waste tokens or sP and everyone is happy. CSC option is not realistic for me neither is experimental dew that never gives you what you hope for anyway. Just a suggestion nothing more thank you :).

Until then I'll keep trying to zap pets through the zapper at 400k per experiment try ^_^.

The issue is that people will gladly vote for something they want, but perhaps don't want to or can't pay money to vote for it. Fake money or not, some users have more than others. By making it cost money to voice your opinion, that runs the risk of silencing some users.

The poll is fundamentally flawed, assuming that the staff cares about what the majority wants more than the money sink itself. Because it is fundamentally flawed, the only proper way for it to be fixed is to discard these results and start a new poll from scratch that costs nothing. There is enough reasonable doubt to suspect that the results may be different this way, IMO.

Thanks! It seems a few people, including you, liked my name suggestion, which is heartening. (I almost didn't post because I was too nervous.)

Also, to answer your question: the poll was in the news on July 11th, & ended last night. You can find the link from the archives here!

I actually wasn't that interested in any of the choices. I like participating though, so I just picked a few I liked more than the rest & went with it. Here's hoping someday my actual favs will see their time to shine. B)

I'm not surprised the peacock won, but I'm incredibly happy and excited to see the blob will become a pet as well! I would have been happy with any of them tbh but I'm glad those two ultimately won.

I'm indifferent about the blob, since I didn't expect to get a second pet anyway. But I'm SUPER HAPPY that the peacock deer won! I spent a lot zapping that one a few months ago, and I'm honestly not bothered at all that these will probably be a lot easier to get now. I just want more colors! Especially the pose-change colors. Sad to see the sand cat didn't do better, but o well. Thanks to staff for giving us double what they promised us!

Yay, thank you for including the blob too <3 The squid was my second choice, so I'm sad about that. I'll just continue to hope for a squiddy pet in the future.

However, I don't understand all the complaints about the voting system? I honestly see no problem with it. lol Considering no one could see how much was being bet, they all pretty much had the same chance of winning? It was fair imo.

It's site currency, though, so it makes sense, both lore-wise with Euclid and considering that Subeta is a game and needs to have uses for sP. Also, making it free would not have ensured different results at all. What if the blob had then won by a landslide? By nature polls are numbers games, and most people's picks will not be the end winner, even with a free poll.

Those results are not exactly fitting because the poll would inherently have a different tone if it were free. Having it cost money made it into a competition.

Kinda rude to keep saying the blob is just a joke pet. A lot of people honestly want that one? Sure some people may have voted for it as a lark but sheesh. Like I wanted or (so I'm 50% happy with where I dumped some sP) and I will never use the blob personally but heck; there are a lot of pets on this site I won't use personally. Doesn't make them trash.

Just a thought on how we might be able to improve gold sinks like this for people to feel they're a bit more fair: maybe we could have public goals like x amount of sP is needed globally to unlock one species and x is needed for a second, etc... and then have just a regular poll to determine the most popular pets to figure out the order of what gets turned into a pet instead of an experiment.

Yess I'm so excited my choice is first place (Can we please name it Peacora?) ! Slightly sad that my second choice ended last place though.

I love this new way of getting what we want because we really needed to drain money out of the economy.

I certainly don't disagree that this site desperately needs money sinks, given how easily you can make money on here; we need more of them to stabilize the economy. But a donation-driven competition, with the disclaimer "we'll only choose one" made pretty clear... that makes for hurt feelings and polarization towards super rich individuals. It's an awful idea all around for everyone besides the site economy.

If I really try, I'm sure I could make maybe 100m in a week from questing and vending stuff; but even that wouldn't have changed the tide here-- and sure, one could've bought CSC and sold it for quick cash, but not everyone can do that either. Maybe if the totals were made clear the whole time, like Flight Rising's weekly Dominance money-sink competitions, then we could've worked together to make it a team effort instead of what happened here... but that's not how this was set up.

We simply need more money sinks, and less means for hurt feelings and super-rich individuals being able to throw the competition. This was all just set up really poorly, and that's where I'm extremely bitter.

Going forward on these new experiment to species ideas, I think a good compromise would be if there was a free anonymous poll on the forums for what pet we would like to see. Then the top 4 could be announced and give people the option to throw sP at their favorite. This way everyone can participate in what they want to see on site without feeling like they need to be rich and also create a money sink.

Congrats winners yaaaaay!!!

I had a huge post a wrote out and now I'm just cutting it down to size;

I was not at all surprised by the winners, reading the other news posts made it very clear who the most popular contenders were. If I had to predict an order this end result would match it perfectly just based on how many commented about each.

To people upset about the pay to win structure; we need it. Yes it can feel cruddy when a rich user sinks more into their favorite and maybe your favorite didn't win as a result. But we need the sp sink, this site fabricates money from thin air and staff need a definitive way to take it back out of the economy. This event took almost 2.5 BILLION sp out of the market. These events won't go away because we need them. Unless we want the economy to spiral out of control likes gaia's did way back when (idk if that ever got handled or is still going bonkers I havent been there in ages).

Unfortunately pets and pet events like this are the best way to ensure people sink the sp in, other methods that people would feel more comfortable about probably wouldn't garner the same results. And, any event where someone can lose will generate upset users.

Unless there's a better idea this is currently the best way staff knows to deliver us content we have a choice over and providing a way to maintain our economy.

There's nothing to say an event like this won't happen again in the future and maybe that time around the losers here will win.

While I understand people's concerns I also feel like they aren't seeing the big picture on what these events mean for the website as a whole.

I'd happily take this over the quest system being made less profitable or having more random events that just take sp from you. This way is more fun, there's a promise of new and exciting content and I have the choice of how much money I put in.

Ugh this still ended up too long oh well.

Thank you Staff for all that you do, I always appreciate that you're real people we can talk to and that you try your best and to account for your flaws.

TLDR; The event took almost 2.5 bil sp out of the market and we need that to help against inflation so the site doesn't go crazy. So this is the best option until something better is available. Paying attention to all the responses on past posts made winners fairly obvious, and given the success with this we might see more so the losers here might one day still have a chance. Be kind to staff they try to do whats best for us and the site.

So happy that the 2759 won! Admittedly I wasn't too thrilled with the idea of the blob being a contender, but with so many people rooting for it, I'm glad to hear for the blob fans that both experiments will be made into full-fledged pets.

Glad the peacock won, I only hope it won't be forgotten special-color wise...

As for the blob, to be honest it has always been one of my least favorite pets on site (I don't know but "goofy" just doesn't work for me.) so I really cannot force myself to be excited about the thought of 30+ different funny blobs. Good for everyone with more humor than I for sure.

I only voted once for the pang/sloth, sorry my money goes towards my pets - not pets that could be lol. But I'm kind of surprised since the comments were mostly about wanting the pang and squid from the news feed. You guys need to remember if blob was last, chances are we'd only have 1 winner any - so is it really worth all this crabbing about being a "silly pet".

Where was this poll and how did it work? xD I completely missed this whole thing.

The glob is one of my FAVORITE pets and I'm really excited it will get a full pet!!! Can't wait for that beautiful eyeball peacock one too. Two really great monsters will now have sooooo many color options, this is really really neat. There are so many great experiment pets, I can't imagine having to pick just one to make into a full pet (love the lobster/shark bodyhorror one a lot too, that would be a great pet).

In all honesty though, I imagine the blob and peacock pets would make for much better variety and freedom of design; particularly the blob if anyone decided to go a custom overlay route.

I am a little sad we can't have the pangolin and sandcat too- sandcat would have been awesome and pangolin would make a fantastic pet! Interested to see what the plans are for the blob haha.
