I get your thought process but staff weren't doing it in the wrong context, It's not like they were all "hey we're gonna be asshats, clown stuff for the rest of morostide lololololol"

In non-clown related news, I love the SubetaTeam avatar outfits to match the rag dolls. I bet it's fun for whoever's job that is! :)

yes but it's been happening for almost a month. they could have chosen not to release them. the point we're trying to make is it probably was a bad idea because of what is happening RIGHT NOW in the news. and has been happening for the past few weeks. they had time to change their mind and didn't see a single problem with it.

it doesn't matter what they MEANT; most people are associating them with something else right now.

Don't forget water bottles and flashlights! Here in AZ the flashlights were left out to be found, and when switched on exploded. Here and elsewhere people were rigging water bottles with common chemicals and tin foil to explode. An old supposedly harmless prank, but they're bad enough to blow off fingers, blind, and leave chemical burns.

I see what you're saying and, I agree. However, you can't leave out the fact that these were released for Halloween - a holiday clowns are associated with. These weren't just released out of the blue because of those sighting. So like, I think it'd only be fair to pretend the meat tenderizer was released right around Thanksgiving or some other food related event idk. If they were released out of the blue with no other context than these real life events, then yeah I'd probably agree they're in poor taste! But seeing as staff have already said they were made months ago for an entirely different reason I don't see how anyone can be mad at that.

I hope that made sense? That's just my take on it

Here's the thing, At least one user in the user base can find a problem with an item on site so should we just shut down the entire place because of people having at least one issue with every item ever made?

Like one person might think this is insensitive, While another is horrified that exists on subeta, then you got someone who thinks items referencing gypsy's are racist....And on goes the list.

Clowns are clowns, Staff didn't deliberately plan these items to be made at a bad time, They didn't know this thing with clowns threatening folks would sweep the nation so you can't say they are being insensitive.

I get the point about the timing, but people could just as easily be doing those things without the clown costumes. People commit crimes every day, but because they're dressing as clowns now they get more attention.

Honestly I feel like it probably would have fizzled out by now if people weren't getting attention for it, but it's too late now.

It's unfortunate, but I don't think it's that big of a deal that Subeta released them now that it's nearing Halloween.

Yes, but if meat tenderizers and certain few other things were used only for a specific set of dishes that chefs only made during a special chef week and so weren't usually referenced throughout the year, but only during that certain week, and subeta planned sets of those rare utensils especially for that week and released them, including the tenderizers, that context changes.

Evil clowns aren't something common that people (who enjoy them) usually enjoy all year round, it's a theme that comes round once a year. So here they are.

Guys, clowns are a classic scary image, they're are very popular to use in scary movies for example. They're remaking Stephan Kings "It" right now. Go to any Halloween costume store right now or even a year or two ago(yes go back in time somehow) and there is clowns, and more clowns. I say keep these items up.

exactly! it's not just a prank. people have LITERALLY been arrested. there are all kinds of threats. whether it was planned before or not means literally nothing. what matters is it was posted at a time when the clown scare is really big, which makes it insensitive. saying that it's referencing something else isn't going to mean a thing to people who are terrified of clowns or of what's happening.

yes, many things can be harmful but right now what's REALLY big and in the news is clowns being horrible. that's a huge thing right now so the impact is different.

and - It's not the items in themselves that people are agitated by but the timing. Yes if there were an axe murderer running rampage across the country then I would say releasing an axe item would be in poor taste. But just because there have been axe murderers in the past doesn't we remove all axes.

Evil clowns have been a concept a lot longer than a handful of dickweeds asking to be knocked out. Other things that have been used to scare and hurt people that Subeta should also stay away from because other knock-my-lights-out people have used them: hockey masks, masks of peoples faces, beanies, fairy costumes, stockings, any form of weapons of any sort, cutlery, apples, shaving equipment, lawnmowers, wigs, makeup, flowers, various kinds of cloth/clothing, plastic, cloth bags, skull masks... really any masks at all. Anything related to blood, witches, zombies... Oh boy I could be here all day listing things.

Lemme put it this way. Say somebody was killed with a meat tenderizer, and then other stories start popping up about more people being killed with the same thing. That's something rather unique, right? And a couple weeks later, Subeta releases a meat tenderizer wearable. Innocent enough on its own, but due to the temporal closeness, we as humans cannot help but think of the murders when we see that item. It's a meat tenderizer, chefs use it all the time, big deal. But context does matter.

Awww come on guys, when you start censoring because of the things bad people are doing, you let them win! :/ A clown suit is a clown suit, nothing more. Now if a person starts anon gifting these out (or any of the preexisting clown stuff - these don't enable anyone to be a jerk) with messed up gifs/messages to reference the creepy guys out there trying to scare/hurt people, THAT would be in poor taste. This is on the same level of distasteful as all Morostide/Halloween stuff - harmless but terrifying.

hugsall to anyone dealing with this stuff irl. My nephew had his school closed down over a clown threat too - (I feel genuinely silly saying "clown threat" what world do we live in where this is a thing??) - something about a clown message listing a couple schools with a picture of a gun and saying which one will it be? :/ People suck.

Maybe because it wasn't a bad idea. Should staff remove all guns because people use them to hurt people? Or all knives, pillows are used to smother people- bears maul people let's remove them too and wolves... good grief people stop reading into something that was not even used in the intent you are putting it.

I'm not "trying so hard" to defend it, I legitimately don't think it was a bad idea.

Should we get rid of all of the weapon items and such on the site too because of murderers and stuff? Let's just cancel everything because there will always be bad people to ruin things.

Clowns are scary no matter if wackos are terrorizing people in the forest or not; These clearly weren't intended to make fun of those afraid of the rampant clowning.

It is unbelievably terrible that all of these horrible things are happening, but these costumes are references as you will read in the descriptions and not intentional, and were planned months/weeks in advance. :( I'm not Staff but it's obvious there was no ill intent meant.
