Fun factoid: one time there was a flood of molasses where 21 people died, isn't that wild? Thank you for the opportunity and this is such a cute idea!
This is so much fun; thanks for creating it ^^
During the Napoleonic wars, the people of Hartlepool (on the east coast of the UK) spotted a French ship sinking at sea. The people went out to rescue any survivors, and found that there was only one - a little monkey, wearing a mini sailor’s outfit.
However, people in Hartlepool hadn’t seen a monkey before. They had also never seen a Frenchman. So, as they believed that the French had claws, they assumed that the monkey was a Frenchman.
The monkey was tried in court to determine if it was guilty of spying. As it couldn’t defend itself, the local people found it guilty and hanged it.
To this day, people call people from Hartlepool ‘monkey hangers’.

part 2 is up?? Let's go !!!
The animal i'll choose is the lobo-guará!! The reason i love them? Long boi. Big leg long boi. It's a South American wolf (they're also called Maned Wolf) and they look like foxes, but also behave like dogs, and eat about anything (fruit, meat and even insects), have i mentioned the long legs? Their fur tend to look like pretty black gloves. Top tier animal if you ask me.
Just look at him!! What a good long boi.

My favorite lesser known animal is the Shoebill Stork (though it's not really a stork, it's more closely related to herons and pelicans). It's my favorite because I'm a big dinosaur fan, and when you see a bird that looks like this you can tell it's descended from dinosaurs!

The Harpy Eagle! It's not super unknown (it's internet famous for those wild photos) but I mean LOOK AT THIS THING! It's huge. It's somehow majestic and terrifying as the largest predatory bird in the rainforest. Their talons are the size of a hand so honestly it could just be someone in a costume...

The Pink Dolphin , They can be found in the Amazon River. I had not known they exhisted until someone online mentioned them to me many years ago.

thank you sm for the win last week!! I was not expecting that at all c:
i really like tomato frogs, found in madagascar. they're quite silly looking frogs and they look perpetually surprised, but their colour is really nice.

I love the pink fairy armadillo. The pink fairy armadillo is approximately 3.5-4.5 inches long, excluding the tail, and is pale rose or pink in color. They are tiny and adorable but have a screech that would rival a bullhorn. They've got to be good looking cause they're so hard to see.
Thanks for the ping buddy =3c
Another most interesting theme this week, thanks!! My contribution this time is the Sierra Nevada Red Fox!
Despite the normal-sounding name, this is the rarest species of fox in the world, with a population estimated in about 50 individuals only. It is so rare that seeing one became [url=https://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/sierra-nevada-fox-not-seen-for-nearly-a-century-in-yosemite-is-caught-on-camera/2015/02/02/c54de2b4-a7f9-11e4-a7c2-03d37af98440_story.html]news material. They're one of many animal species hunted down almost to instinction by humans, this time because of their prized soft and vividly red fur being considered high-quality pelt. They're now a protected species. Here's a picture of one, the first taken in 100 years:

Quaggas! They're a subspecies of zebra that was hunted to extinction, and now there's an attempt to reintroduce them into them wild
I like tawny frogmouths! They’re a silly nocturnal Australian bird that make the weirdest noises at night time (sometimes they sound like a motor), but they’re very sweet once you realise the noise comes from a bird.
I've always loved moneys and this one, the Yunnan snub nosed monkey, has to be the cutest. Sadly they are very few and might be extinct soon.

Jerboas. I love how derpy and adorable they look with their absurd proportions. Despite being only a few inches tall they can jump 3' straight up and 10' forward.
thanks for tagging!
I'm a big fan of the bearded vulture!
They're big birds that look like dinosaurs and unlike most bird species, they have feathered legs! It makes them look like they're wearing pants, and I think it's really cute in a silly little way. Their diet is super interesting too, because it consists primarily of bones! These big fellas can swallow entire bones and digest them like it's no big deal. I just think it's really cool that we have a big fluffy bone eating bird.

My favorite is the peacock mantis shrimp because he's made of rainbows and looks FABULOUS. The placement of their eyes allows them to see in two directions at once and they have between 12 and 16 different color receptors (compared to a human's THREE! red, blue, and green).

My favorite, lesser known, animal is: Ocelot.
Some background on Ocelot: "The Leopardus paradalis, also known commonly as ocelot, became a popular pet among Americans during the 1950's and 1960's. This leopard-like feline is actually one of the smallest types of wildcat. It is found in several areas of all the American continent, including Texas, Arizona, Peru or Mexico. The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) has now cataloged it as as species of least concern, although the truth is that their increasing loss of natural habitat has affected the species severely."
