Woo new items again! And before people get disappointed in price, there are still 81 items that are over 1mil sP, including an unbuyable. Regular drops are still good!
❤❤❤❤
Fun used HA items here!

HOW did I never use this wig? I was POSITIVE I'd used it multiple times, but I can't find a single HA with it. HOW.
Well, time for me to piss everyone off.
BEFORE I START - a very VERY big clarification.
I have interacted with quite a few battlers in my years here. I have gone on the battling forum when I was active. Battlers are INCREDIBLY friendly and welcoming, always ready to provide information and tips and tricks to newbies or just people who aren't quite sure what to do on the latest challenger.
But.
Battlers were also the most entitled players on Subeta.
I realize I have just pissed off a good number of users. Hear me out, please!
One - this was the battle community from 2007 to 2016 that I can speak to. This may not pertain at all to the battle community of today. Two - I was aware of drama regarding CWs back towards the beginning of that too, I have no clue how the CW community is, so they are not included in this comparison.
Where else on Subeta do you have to spend millions upon millions of sP and months to years of time in order to be 'good' at something? A user can make a good HA with cheap items and no time invested required. Designing a page for your pet in order to submit for the contest? Hell, technically all you need for that is a pet and your ability to create a theme. You'll likely spend sP to fill the treasure, but you don't need to. You'll likely spend time or sP getting a good layout, but you don't need to. what else even does a user do here? games? quests? restocking? all things you can do right out of the gate.
Sure, collections and Item Hunt will take time and effort and sP, but let's be honest. Even back when Subeta was at it's most popular - who actually showed off their collections? Who used that as a way to 'judge' other users?
Now. What other aspect of the site requires competing with other users for good stuff? Blackheart Hollow? Token Shop? Luck based and you can get a reasonable about of wizard tokens within a short time of questing. Restocking? Crystal shop? There were avatar contests like, maybe three times? the EPICon cosplays (remind me to show you my horrific Batman at some point) and like, maybe another time? But again, you didn't NEED really expensive items for it. I'm pretty sure CW were banned from it. Theoretically, ANYONE could win it.
Plots! EXCEPT for battling, the plots were always open for every single user to participate, no matter how new or old they were. Getting bitten? Investigating a murder? Picking between two teams and doing games or restocking? Figuring out codes? All stuff you could come in and do as of day one.
But battling.
First off, I remember the time before tiers. Back when a user who quested and restocked a lot and had a bunch of sP, but who didn't spend tons of time training their pet could buy a bunch of expensive items and beat the big challengers. And battlers were PISSED. The forums unfortunately seem to be lost to time, as the furthest back I could go already had tiers in place. But I remember seeing upset users who thought that people who didn't extensively train but used expensive items were 'cheating'. It wasn't 'fair'! How dare someone who didn't spend years investing in training pets manage to beat the same challengers that they could?! I wish I could find the thread, but I distinctly remember some mid/low level pet who managed to beat one of the big challengers because of the weapons and the BUTTHURT that was present from battlers.
Then tiers were implemented. I'm sure that realistically they were implemented to try and make battling more accessible, but at the time I can tell you that it felt like punishing those non-battlers who dared to be able to succeed. Suddenly, those weapons that you spent sP on? Well fuck you, you're three four five six more tiers too low and now you can't use it. That Deluxe Death Shard? It's a one time use per battle that guaranteed freezing the opponent for a single turn. Assuming the attack/defense is the same, it deals 15 to 20 icons of dark, and defends you from 40 icons of dark. AND NOW IT WAS TIER 6. Meaning that you could now only use this weapon if your pet was 2600-3399 Total Stats (approx. Levels 260-340 and 650-849 in each stat) (directly lifted from the battle forums - thank you Metroid!). Legendary weapons that were introduced in '07? Now they're tier 7. Tier 7: 3400-4399 Total Stats (approx. Levels 340-440 and 850-1099 in each stat)
Currently in this drop!
My battle pet Jarth (currently given to Damon and now trained more) ended up being in the mid-600s for level. I think tier 9 but maybe tier 10. And you know what? That was in 2016. I joined the site and created Jarth on January 4th 2007. NINE YEARS later, tier 9.
Now granted, I was NOT a battler. I spent my time and focus on getting wearables instead of training Jarth. But I DID spent a bunch of sP training him, I DID spend a BUNCH of time training him! Only to constantly and repeatedly have it not be enough, to the point where I gave up.
Okay, but that's one specific thing that was probably done to try to balance the battling, not punish people, how does that make a community the most entitled on subeta?
Because it wasn't just that. Remember when I posted that I beat Hydragellos? People were not pleased that a low/mid level pet did that, it should have been one of the experienced battlers! There was genuine ANGER during the gelly battles that the one who beat Hydragellos was random. There was bitching that cores were given out to the top 10, then the top 20, because those hitting the lower numbers of those 'didn't count' and it was 'giving out the cores for free'. A player dealt 50,000 damage and was called a 'joke' because they shouldn't have gotten a core, despite being in the top 20 users who dealt damage. Because Hydragellos can heal, battlers said that lower level pets shouldn't even FIGHT because all it was doing was healing the boss more. Again, said multiple years. A community DELIBERATELY wanting to exclude players from participating in a site-wide event, because only THEY were good enough for it. And why did it even matter??? Because battlers constantly insisted that they needed to get extra special items that no one else could get. If you dealt the most damage, then you should get an item of which there would be only 10 on the site, and it needs to be limited and rare and expensive so I can brag and show off and BE THE BEST, BETTER THAN YOU. Top 20 was STILL giving out too many! Eventually it got changed so that now you needed to do a minimum amount of damage to get a core. How much damage? March 28, 2022 - you needed to do TEN MILLION points of damage. Screw you if you are a casual battler, if you're new to the site, if you DARED focus on other things than battling.
Am I exaggerating? A SINGLE pet in tier 7 was able to clear the 10 mil threshold, by doing 2,051 battles. A SINGLE pet in tier 8 at 2591 battles. Three tier 9 pets did it by doing between 2183 and 4332 battles. 5 pets at tier 10. 12 pets at tier 11. 25 pets at tier 12. 67 pets at tier 13. That's a total of 113 cores so at least it went to a larger group, hopefully the huffing about it should be limited stopped years back. You know what though? I went and checked the users who did the 10mil damage. Not all of them, but a lot. And what did I see? 16 years here, 16 years here, 17 years here, 10 years here, 11 years here 16 years here, 16 years here. The 'newest' one that I saw? 7 years here. Seven years. Seven years to meet the 'minimum' to get a good item.
I saw years of complaints when new battle challengers were released that they were for lower leveled pets. The cry of 'why isn't there a challenger that only the best of the best can do, that also drops the best and most rare and expensive items'. Complaints of yet another challenger that 'regular users' could do, why wasn't there something specifically targeted to the top 30/40 battlers?! This was back when Subeta was booming and there was tons of content being created. All other content was created so that anyone could get the item and use it, anyone could buy the food and feed it, anyone could play the game, anyone could start the collection. But the battle 'elite'? Well, they wanted stuff that was just for THEM. Challengers only THEY could beat, but the peons could beat in a few years, maybe, if they spent tons of time and sP training their pets. Item rewards that only THEY could have, oh and they also better be amazing weapons that do insane amounts of damage that they only THEY could use. The peons could maybe use it after years and years if they reached tier 13 AND if the item was released again.
And then this had to be involved in plots. Remember the Murder Mystery with the Masquerade in 2010? EVERYONE could participate and find clues and follow along the plot - UNTIL. Beating Marcel? Getting a rare item that no other user could get? Goes to the top 10 battlers and the 1 user who got last strike. Because that's fair and fun for everyone who was playing the event. Couldn't be the top 10 damage dealers compared to users who trained for ages and had great battle sets? Sucks to be you, no prize for you. Oh, and this is basically never released again ever (except in a super high loot crate chance that's entirely random and costs an insane amount of sP - I think. I'm not 100% sure it's even released in that!). Oh and fun fact, battlers ALSO bitched about the prize because they felt that it didn't do enough damage.
I'm comfortable quoting a user because they are no longer here with subeta: "This attitude that "everyone wins" is just bogus. No, not everyone is entitled to EVERY achievement. No, not everyone is entitled to a prize.
Of course because I actually won one you're just going to ignore/automatically disagree.
Quit bitchin'."
This was the attitude.
And you know what was a constant through all of this? Users in the news comments, in threads - 'well, I can't participate.' 'I can't even begin to battle this.' 'There's no way I can win.' And you know what ELSE was constant? 'I've been training since last year and I STILL can't do this.' 'I've been training for ages but the difficulty was just made harder, so I still can't reach it, even though I reached the level that people who could do it last year were.' 'It's constantly running just to stay in place, so why even bother.'
Seeing users constantly feeling shut out, feeling left out, and even when they tried and TRIED, still having the goalposts constantly move. Year after year after year, these comments came.
Because of every single aspect of Subeta - only battling requires you to spend years to actually be able to participate.
I'm ending this massive rant with something I said at the beginning, because I want to make this clear again: I have interacted with quite a few battlers in my years here. I have gone on the battling forum when I was active. Battlers are INCREDIBLY friendly and welcoming, always ready to provide information and tips and tricks to newbies or just people who aren't quite sure what to do on the latest challenger.
This was true in 2007, I'm sure it's true now.
The battlers I've met are very nice and helpful

"And before people get disappointed in price, there are still 81 items that are over 1mil sP, including an unbuyable. Regular drops are still good!"
Hey, who cares how much its worth ;__; it's still free and thank you!!!!!!
Also, this is why I'm scared to even go in the battling forums. I was scared enough in the CW forums as well because both seem to be more exclusive but I know both are also very nice. It's just my social anxiety saying "don't even try".
I've been trying to tier up my pets to try battling some more but after reading this, (it's more of a years type haul) i'd rather stop spending my CSC on autotraining lol.
Phew. I’ve been here over 16 years and you are so right about battling. I keep training my battle pet and he’s finally to a level that I was able to start making a lot of xp and feel like I was getting somewhere. But there was so much gatekeeping in those years you describe, it kept me away from doing much other than training center. I never said anything about it until loot crates, though. And then I was a real keyboard warrior in the news post comments. 😂
I agree the vibe is a lot better now and the battle forum is pretty welcoming! But I’m still hoping to get to a point where I can beat an Impossible challenger.
I love reading your posts and seeing your old HAs. Thanks so much.

LOL I'm still kinda put off by the battle community. It still feels kind clique-y so I just keep to myself. And I find battling boring anyway XDD But I'm glad others have had positive experiences!
EDIT: My statement is very much based on my own experiences. Not too many good ones tbh, and I can't help it affecting my opinion on the matter. And I do have a T13 battle pet but it took like 10 years to raise one because I didn't dedicate every waking moment to it.
And I would just like to add that it feels difficult getting into any pre-established community in general, unless you're part of the inner circle. It's hard not to feel like you're imposing if everyone else is friends already.
Missed the drop. I do a bit of battling but not sure what I’m doing haha!
I know I'm late but that was an incredibly entertaining read! Haven't been here over a decade or anything, but I experienced so much of that and now I just mostly make avatars because battling and training takes soooo long and so much sP and most of the time I just find it monotonous and boring.

Thank you or the items.^^ I got butterfly one:3. Yeah, I also want to try to battle, but I wasn't here for long time and now my pets are super weak. I am really bad at socializing, so I didn't enter any of Subeta subcommunity (battle, Cws...) -.- So I have the same feeling as (beautiful outfit by the way*-*). (Maybe it is aslo because I am a Non-native English speaker -.-)

First let me say, I saw some posts saying that my rant basically voiced their reasons for being to scared to reach out to the battle community. I will ALWAYS suggest reaching out! As I mentioned, battlers ARE friendly and welcoming! Don't make a judgement of the community today based off of my opinions of a community 10+ years ago. Especially with Subeta feeling like it's shrinking by the day, I'm sure there are folks excited and willing to help grow interest in their niche of the site.
Moving on, the topic I wanted to speak to today is how much Subeta Cares.
I mean that very sincerely. Subeta, as a pet site/avatar site, just needed to be purely entertainment. But time and time again, Subeta has introduced items that show not only care for a diverse user base, but also just Good Person caring.
Sure, they're not calling them hijabs, but they provide a large variety of styles that allow people who make HAs who follow in their own practices.
I don't have an example item in this batch, but there have been wheelchairs, crutches, disability aids!
For a year, Subeta had exclusive cash shop items that championed adopting animals, proper methods of care, recognizing that each animal will have a different need than others even of the same breed. These items were never preachy, but it was a little nudge. Adopt when you can. Make sure you're taking care.
Maybe not the best example, but Subeta repeatedly tried to show different cultures and beliefs. Sure, there are times when it hit stereotypes and cliches, but for the most part it always felt respectful. I've discussed in my very first post how Subeta had made items that were specifically Jewish.
They may not be perfect, but they try. And I respect and appreciate them for it.
I regret not using these because I DO like how they look, but using underwear can be really difficult.
❤ I'm not going to go HA hunting, but I'll say I either used this or WANTED to use it, I love them so much.
Ha! I forgot that they actually DID end up releasing the pre-stage of lovebug! I was so pleased, but I never used it. Maybe if it had been one of the earliest stages with just a few hearts - could have been easier to incorporate.
look they're cute okay
