<p>If you are planning on training and battling with more than one pet, you can be a little more adventurous with their builds if you want. If there is something you don&;t like with your first pet and want to change, you could always make the change with your second pet.
And that's solid advice that I'm going to take! I think I'll try to do a little more training via the training center for my 2nd pet before upping their stats with EXP and tomes. See what the cost will be doing it that way as with my first pet, I used EXP and the price for training jumped wayyyy before I was remotely ready sP wise lol. As to the build, I'll try different things for different pets and see what works best.
