Sorry to ping ya back here, a bit off topic—I was on hiatus for several years and had no idea some of the Masquerade items were user-drawn! That’s so cool! What year was that, if you happen to remember?
Also I really like the idea of inviting users to draw a series of items, maybe use it as a way for people to get that “help the site with something” achievement?
Shows how great my memory is, it was actually 10 items and it is the bottom 10 items of steamworks year 2019
items
and
I can answer that--the user-drawn items were released in 2019, and I believe that they are all the items at the bottom of the Steamworks Menagerie for 45 trinkets each.
I also want to voice my support for similar contests/events with user-drawn content; if I remember right, after the 2019 Steamworks event, we saw more variety in wearables inspired by these (similar to the animal legs and such with CWs). Users can often come up with some very cool, very innovative items!
Thanks to both of you!! Wow, some of my favorite items from that year were drawn by users 😊 I’m constantly impressed by the variety of items that are released by both site artists and users/CW artists!
User drawn stuff was amazing, I'd love to have that back, obviously with rewards for the artists

I believe some survival items were user-drawn as well! i remember a couple: those are the ones i remember for sure
all of these are user-submitted items that won a contest like the masq items posted earlier (news post 1, post 2, post 3), and i think it'd be fun to run these contests more often! (though admittedly i'm just here to look at pretty items and vote, not draw and submit, so idk how often the actual participants would like this kind of thing.)
and if we're talking about things we'd like to see come back -- please bring back the summer raffle (news post for raffle for reference) pls i want that unlucky title ;0;
Not going to do any pinging but just gonna say.... just because people have difficulty getting money/raising money for one reason or anything doesn't mean they're not willing to put in the effort. I hardly get Morty cards as it is as a whole, I can't spend real money on here for the unforseeable future, and I have the hardest time getting people interested in my stuff when it comes to commissions, but I am willing to work hard? I'm just... I guess a little tired of comments like that, another site I frequent, people will make comments about how people are "lazy" or "don't want to put in the effort" when they just want something to be easier to obtain (because hey, it might be locked behind rng or being really expensive, like multiple hundreds of real money in the site's currency expensive). So. Just saying, and I don't want to argue, just pointing that out.
I'm kind of glad I'm not into CWs, tbh. That does sound expensive and I'd just rather buy pet slots with CSC, which is what I'm working on xD Which does mean I tend to use the not-CW stuff for wardrobe/pet profiles and I'm not liking the focus on CWs when it comes to wearables. I don't think I could make enough to feasibly get into them anyways. I'll buy one on occasion (like my wig on my current HA is a CW, and I nabbed a backdrop from the pawn shop a couple years ago I think, that I'm gonna use for an OC cosplay later), but that's it.
And I agree with the forum thing. I would rather claim threads not go away permanently. I am not the most social of people, I have a hard time trusting others (and thus, also have low energy when it comes to talking to people I do not know), I'm not good with words, and I feel like I annoy people when I post, so I'd rather not have to actually post on forums to participate in an event. It doesn't feel fair. (and yeah, I know I don't post on claim forums much either, but I do send flowers via the billboards which is a good way to do it without being social, but I have used claim threads before). I don't have friends on this site either, not active ones anyways. Everyone has either left or doesn't get on very often, so that's not an option for me either.
I actually have another suggestion, though it might not happen anytime soon. Perhaps we can get events that don't require battling at any point during it? I can't think of an event/plot that happened that didn't require at least one battle, and being someone who's only training for achievements (and because it fits some of my pets' lore) and who has no idea where to start with battling, I often feel left out due to it (I'm still kinda sad I can't make Bhakoru because I am sure that event/plot required at least one battle)(also most of the battles had opponents that were too strong for my pets at the time). It's also not newbie friendly, haha.
And maybe for the currency shops, have the buy button open into a new tab or at least have the option for that? My biggest issue with buying from currency shops is having to go back and buy each item individually, when the back button doesn't even take me to the year tab. If the buy button opened in a new tab or going "back" sent me to the year again instead of making me have to go back to that and find the item again, that would be wonderful.
Lastly, I did not know users made stuff for Masq before :o That's really neat! I'd love if that happened more.
I try not to think. It interferes with being nuts.
i believe this is actually up to the browser, not the website. chrome lets you cmd/ctrl-click buttons to open the link in a new tab; firefox does not. i always hop over to chrome to make my special shop purchases, then close that demonic browser as quickly as possible.
I would love to see battling get more attention. Aside from the two new challengers we get each month, battling feels stale and the community has been growing very quiet. It quickly becomes a grind and each new challenger becomes the same grind, different day. I know to revamp the whole battling system would be a huge effort Subeta most likely doesn't have resources for, but some smaller efforts that I think would help:
Fix the battling guides - the official guides are convoluted and not intuitive to new battlers. I find that a lot of new players or new battlers get frustrated because they don't know what to do and they can't find any guides to help them. There are a ton of userbase developed resources that are more useful, but many new people don't know where to start to even find these guides or want to use the forums. Creating better official guides and FAQs can help alleviate that.
Better options for weapons - it's been years since we have gotten any new weapons or scrolls. All of the battle loot dropped by new challengers has been things like wears, beanbags, plushies, etc. Nothing that actually has to do with battling. It would be nice if the harder opponents dropped things like weapons and scrolls you could use to enhance your set. There are a ton of old lower tier weapons that don't get used because the stats are awful. It would be nice if they could get a revamp so that players have a wider variety of affordable options that they can hang onto longer before investing in the big purchases.
Battle shop - It would be nice to see the stocks include more items in the rotations and have more frequent rotations. There are only two items in the impossible section of the shop. It would be nice to see more worthwhile options to use your impossible tokens for instead of just converting them for more booster tokens.
Achievements - Locking CS drops behind achievements was a terrible idea imo. Especially as a lot of the loot doubles as weapons and wearables. There's also the loot like baal that is needed to make the cronus blade so you are forced to give up the only baal you can win to make cronus. A good compromise would be to have higher tier achievements where you can earn another copy of the weapon or scroll, like the way GE is currently set up. If meatslab awarded baal for win 5 and say another baal for win 25, then the people who are really dedicated to battling that want another baal have the option of attaining it.
Customizable weapons - it would be interesting to see weapons with low base stats, but had a lot of mod slots so you could "craft" your weapons and play around with stats.
Community - subeta has felt like a 1P game for a long time. It would be interesting to see a battle event where you had to work in battle teams at certain times during the event, maybe to unlock an achievement. I think having a battle test group would also be beneficial. There are already test groups for other areas of the site, I don't see why battling shouldn't have the same. You can have a range of experienced battlers on the team to help test weapon balance, opponent balance, and anything else that might break.
A little derailing... but FireFox users can download Tab Submit Basic. It lets you do the ctrl+click thing that you can down in Chrome. Kind of sucks that this what we have to do but Subeta isn't going to change it since it fixes the duplication glitch.
Whoooo boy this thread.
Firstly - CWs have a lot of focus because they bring in funding for the site. They're one of the biggest money makers and as much as I wish the site was getting enough support without the burden falling on the CW releasers, it isn't. All the new features and things everyone wants to see, all the calls for more content and more staff - that all costs money. You can enjoy the site without spending a cent - there's nothing that mandates you purchase CSC or subscribe, there's no barriers to events or content locked behind spending money. This is the only site that I have played on that really doesn't require anything like that. There's no CSC bonus boost during events where exclusives are given/released/rewarded for spending money like on other sites. We can't simultaneously ask for more money and staff put towards the rest of the site while disparaging the part of the site that brings in money and getting mad that there's any kind of not free to play portion of the site (and realistically, it is still free because you can buy csc with sP and not spend real money here). I'm confused as to how we're asking for more content and staff while also demanding everything be completely free and people stop spending money on the site. That's a surefire way to kill it because staff needs payment and the site isn't free to host/run/build. I'm baffled y'all. Baffled.
As to things I'd love to see:
I would love to see the battle system/intros/guides revamped, as has been mentioned, and made more accessible for more people. I have been on the site for a long time, dedicatedly training for a long time, and I still don't really understand how things work very well. I have decent weapons, I have good stats, I have a t12 pet, I should be able to beat most of the challengers but there are things I can't sort out. I would also love to see more accessibility for older weapons/scrolls. Things that aren't buyable/earnable/obtainable. I'm not asking for it to all be easy and require no work but as mentions - so many of the weapons are dual duty as wearables or required to make better weapons. They're already fairly impossible to obtain if you haven't been part of the battle community since the start of the site, so seeing more accessibility would be great. I'm not opposed to making it take work and effort but it would be nice to make it even remotely possible!
As far as forums/sMail go - I'm eagerly anticipating the day we see these revamped but I also assume we're not doing that right now because we're working on moving to a new site and it makes more sense to rebuild them for that in a way that is better than to stop doing that and redo them here with the piecemeal coding that is creating so many problems.
I would love to see a better method for buying from special currency shops built into the new site as well. I also have figured that some of the long-awaited features like Tea House etc are things that make more sense to build for the new site rather than building them into this version of the site and then having to rebuild them.
I think staff communication has waned in some areas but overall has been a lot better than it used to be. There's a lot more information coming out especially when we're experiencing issues site-wide.
And like Wesker, I too really love achievements - even if there's no title/prize tied in. I like to have goals to work towards and that drives more engagement (but please no new Drills tiers lmao - I'm still working on that haha).
I don't feel like the site is dying in any way, shape or form. I see the same levels of user engagement that I've seen for years and years. I would love, obviously, to have events/holidays/plots with more user engagement encouraged but I know that takes a lot of time and money to implement, especially when the major goal is to shift onto a programming format that is more customizable and maintainable. I miss big plots and I'm hoping we'll see some in the future and maybe see some shifts in holidays so it's not mostly point and click style (don't get me wrong, I do like trick or treating and flowering and dancing and biting and kissing, I just like to have more to do beyond that haha).
Thank you for that info about the addon! I didn't know it was a thing and I've been missing the tab click ability since it was stopped. If I get duplicates using it that's the risk I'm willing to take to make it easier lol :)
tbh my pet is like T7 and I still have zero grasp of how any of it works. I just got a scroll that blocks and a couple weapons that heal, based off of user-run guides. I read the official battle guide once and was more confused than when I started XD
+1 to making it easier to purchase from currency shops. I had 7 years of stuff to catch up on and that was A L O T lmao, I get that there could be issues with missing items when buying in bulk though, and it would have to limit how many items you could buy at once cuz of the inventory size limit. I wonder what the best layout would be, too? A simple checkbox, ya get one at a time of each item? A dropdown to buy in bulk?
I'd love to be able to buy holiday items in bulk, especially books as that is typically what I need. Same as someone mentioned above, I miss being able to open up multiple tabs to read the mass amount of books to my pets, or use the huge amount of stat boosters on a single pet.

I literally have no idea how battle works (aside from HULK SMASH) and I am genuinely too uncomfortable to ask because it makes me feel like an idiot. My pet is tier 13 and I've had him since 2008 and that's how long I've been unable to grasp the system. I would LOVE a tutorial that is SIMPLE for people like me who don't look at a ton of numbers and symbols and just go "oh okay". Something that builds up knowledge rather than slams your head into it, if that makes sense.
(Please do not offer me assistance, I am too anxious to deal with this RN, this isn't a cry for assistance. lol)
I would rather see a much bigger focus on battling. Its already mostly forgotten and battlers get very little thrown their way. The monthly challengers are nice, but like others have mentioned its really hard to get into and understand. I enjoy battling and have two battle pets, a T6 and a T5, plus a decent armory of items whose function I honestly barely understand. I go through bursts where I'm either very interested or don't touch battling at all. Things can be confusing and I basically all my battles boil down to "I hope my expensive weapon is enough". I feel very stuck with my set because adding anything else costs a ridiculous amount of sP. I don't know what weapons/scrolls are worth my time and what isn't.
I'd love to see some official guides and new opponents dropping things that make it easier to progress through battling in a way that helps build you up. Having more accessible, quality weapons/scrolls would help more people get into battling and encourage them to stay.
Anyone knows the last time we got a trading card? It's not like they would be hard to make, since they all use the same sprite.
And yeah, really, we NEED people who write lore for Subeta. Or we won't get anything. There has been zero happenings in Subeta lore lately.
I agree about the lore. There doesn't have to be a plot to provide more lore, especially if plots aren't currently doable for the staff and maybe they don't want to keep us waiting for certain things to happen or be revealed (I still want to see a Jaxian wedding and what's going on with Gunter as well as how his brother became unliving but I doubt those will happen anytime soon), it can easily be in the form of news/forum posts or item descriptions. I'm always asking for lore in item descriptions, and sometimes we get it, but it's mostly for the Quest NPCs when it comes to the Quest Shop items, there's just so many missed oppurtunities.
Would love to have a dedicated "writer" person! Whether it's a volunteer position or part of one of the paid ones (though it might be A Lot to pile onto one of those...), it would be super cool to have someone do that. Full support for that.
And going back to my other post, perhaps the community outreach person could also wrangle the social media accounts? It fits into that job description I think, lol. I just think it could really help with building a tangible "community" outside of the site itself.
I would like it is Subeta Tiles got an upgrade; it's still listing pets by their very very VERY old names.
