Yes, you are so right! The heating pad arrived yet now he is sleeping and I don't dare to disturb him, perhaps he is anxious when I try to remove his cover for laying the pad inside.

We were able to find two pet stores open this morning and I found just the right cuddle cave for Mickey:

It is very thick and the roof is stable and he can crawl in and feel cozy.

This morning, he didn't come for his breakfast, I was really worried. At last, I opened the cover and found him in my ski jacket. He has one slightly red eye, certainly an infection due to the cold. I coaxed him into eating some warm food and then he went on a stroll, it was very sunny around noon.

I had time to prepare his new renovated home then. :-) I found a big picnic blanket with isolated back and coated the inside of his bat cave with it and put another staple of blankets in. Now he has the big heating pad in the middle, already warming the nest a bit until he comes home, I hope. Then one site the new cuddle nest, I put my ski jacket around it for more isolation, and on the other site of the heating pad, his sleeping sack which I lined with a blanket so perhaps he gets it now that he can crawl into it, too. All sites are heavily coated with fleece blankets now and I really really hope he is more comfortable now and feels more cozy. It'll be still more cold as in spring, I know, yet I hope I made it a bit better for him. Fingers crossed! <3

I am worried nevertheless for next winter, we are moving out later in the year, I think, and I have to talk to the neighbors and give them his things and buy an isolated cat house for him (and hope they are agreeing to look after him).

At least, he is in there since ten hours so I hope it's at least a bit cozy and warmer. I hope he eats some more dry food this night, he had only 100 grams wet food at noon. Certainly he doesn't feel so well yet it would be better if he eats more. He is strongly build yet when he feels under the weather, he eats only bits.

Thank you. This morning, he was much more lively and up already when the sun came out with more warm rays so I think the warmth did him good. He is on his morning stroll now and I expect him back soon.

oh, I am so glad that he's feeling better! Your efforts to keep him warm must have helped tremendously! I hope the sun continues to keep things warm enough so that he won't have such trouble anytime soon <3

We have sun today and tomorrow and Sunday is the last day with the extreme frost from 1 Fahrenheit here, it'll be better next week. However, I can't imagine how it feels beeing outside all the time in winter.

perhaps he's somewhat used to the winter temps, but still, I can't imagine being outside in that either!

Yes, we can only hope he is more comfortable now, at least a bit.

Have been following this with a tight chest, such weather gives one pause for the four footed feline you have devoted your time, care, and cost to. Kitty is blessed and you are the guardian angel. Hopefully you will find a neighbor to care for him once you are moved. You're an amazing lady.

Thank you so much for thinking about us, especially Mickey, my friend! I'll make sure he is taken care of when we move and in the last resort, when I can't talk people round to, we try to take him with us should we be so lucky being able to rent a small house with garden.
