I know it’s hard when you go out of your way to find the perfect gift to not feel it was appreciated. It definitely seems like it wasn’t the case this time. I’m sorry to hear your family was sick this year, but I’m glad to hear they are feeling better.

I participated in a company event this year to send gifts to a poor family. If you like giving gifts and seeing people smile, this is probably the most gratifying thing you can do. I got to deliver the gifts to the family I picked. One of the girls was very sick, she had to go to the emergency room the other day because she had a fever of 102F. But when she opened her gift, her face lit up and she started to color (it was a drawing pad with colored pencils and crayons) and forgot how sick she felt.

I miss all the great food during the holiday season. Christmas and Thanksgiving are both times when I get to have food I normally don’t get because it takes a lot of effort to prep or something you make for a large group of people. My favorite is called pernil, Spanish pork shoulder is the best way to describe it. It’s salty, a little citrusy and has crispy skin. It takes a long time to make, but it’s totally worth it if it comes out right. I made it myself this year for the first time and was pleased that it came out close to how my mom makes it.

I also miss the family togetherness that comes along with the holidays. It’s a chance for me to see family I normally don’t get to see because we are all scattered across the country.

Yeah it is.. Not being stressed is such a wonderful feeling. During the holidays I can stop worrying about deadlines and even better, about money. It feels like I CAN spoil everybody and its amazing

wesker you're such a sweetheart 😭 its individuals like you make Christmas/ the holidays what it should be about giving and bringing joy to those less fortunate. I remember growing up and seeing my mom even though we had a father she had to struggle to try to come up with ways to get us presents because she could barely afford to put a roof over our heads, people like you and families or individuals would help us by buying our family a gift. I swear without that we probably would of not got anything. I really need to do something like this to give back to someone for all the times my family was helped you definitely awoke me :)

Undertakerr yep, I give myself some props because I put down the laptop and only checked it like twice. I usually am online more than I should be, maybe i should make that my new years resolution to disconnect. I don't think I would be able to keep that though because I really like coming on to subeta.

I don't have any children I'm 29 and haven't found someone yet but should that happen and I'm blessed with a child, I hope to do the same things. I have a lot of cousins to give to but like its so different when its your own children and you get to see the expression on their faces. I really hope I get to experience that.

What do you miss about the holidays when they're over?

The busyness, always having something on the go. The planning, spotting an item and thinking "oh that would be perfect for...." then realizing its over and I have no reason to send a gift.

Yes, lets go back to the 90s, before all this insanity started >___>; I, too, would prefer that.

My favorite part of the Holidays used to be that the day after Christmas (My Dad was also an only child, and Grandpa died in 1999, so it's just my Grandma. She comes over for our little family Christmas) my extended family would all gather at one person's place (It changed each year) and we'd have a potluck, catch up and shoot the breeze.

This year was a little different, and we gathered in a restaurant...not the best restaurant tho; but still, it's always nice to see my extended family once a year!!

though I realize the 90s wasn't really all that progressive human rights wise so maybe that's a bad idea xD politically it was a nicer decade as a whole lol maybe we should just skip to 2100, see how we screwed up the 21st century :'D I'm sorry I try to be positive but I can't, too much crap

The lost of love ones during the holidays makes it a bit sad but I try to remember the good times we shared and carry on the best I can. What I miss when Christmas is over is the pine smell when you walk into the living room. The decorations. The kindness people show to one another. My family and my husband’s family all live in So. California. So no one is too far and we see each other for birthdays and holidays.

We give our son three gifts for Christmas. When he was little it was easier to get him his top three gifts. Now that he’s much older and earns his own money he doesn’t need too much. But is always appreciative of what he receives plus he has aunts and uncles who get him something too.

I also love receiving cards in the mail and not just bills. Lol.

Thanks again Tori.

the holidays seem to always make strangers nicer to strangers. I worked on christmas day and the attitudes of customers seemed to "be more patient and understanding" when things were busy/not going smoothly or maybe it was just lucky they didn't yell at us (short staffed sigh). It's always great to have nicer customers and it really made working on christmas worth it, one guy even thanked me for working that day ;-;; -i also ended up staying an extra 3 hours to help out since it was so busy and never got a break T__T cry

The holidays are usually the only days I get to see my friends/family (do other holidays count >_>) since my parents work like 6 days a week or 7 at times and my friends have like full schedules + jobs too or significant others to attend to, holidays are the only times things are slow and there's just more days to spend time. (of course we meet for dinner/lunch here and there but that's just three hours :c ) and speaking of holidays..I usually do a sleepover w/ my closest friends (and that's today!) it's become a "holiday tradition" so it makes me even more excited when christmas is near. we all bought presents for each other too ;~; i'm so excited to give them out

another thing I appreciate about the holidays are these giveaways. not in the sense of free items but with topics like these to give prompts for strangers to meet strangers and become friends. I've met a couple of really nice people that I still talk to-- so this is really fun + great. I'm thankful ;~; I'm normally only on buy/sell parts of the forums and rarely chat >_> so this is a very nice change of pace <3
