I rarely find anything at BHH but I can't complain since one of the handful of things I have found was a pbow. Now if only I could find those crescent fishtail blades....
One of them is Smooth Ambler's Contradiction. This is a blend between two whiskeys. One is a bourbon made from wheat and the other is a bourbon made from rye. What I like about this bourbon is it tastes completely different when you have it neat. Actually, it is very lack luster served neat. However, if you add a few drops of water, it completely opens up the taste. Add an ice cube and it tastes like you bought a completely different bottle of bourbon. It's called contradiction because it combines two completely different bourbon styles but I also like to think it's called that because it tastes completely different depending on how you serve it.
Jefferson's Ocean is the second one and the more expensive of the two. They literally send the bourbon barrels out to sea and that is how the bourbon is aged and develops its taste. They are sold as "voyages." Each voyage goes out to different locations, different season conditions and different weather conditions so no one voyage will ever taste the same. It sounds gimmicky but I really like it. I bought voyage 9, which has a more smooth finish and has a little bit of caramel and smokiness to it. This is similar to contradiction in that it changes profile when you add water. When served neat, it is smooth up front but a strong bite on the back end. It has that typical bourbon taste to it. Add a few drops of water and the taste smooths out and it starts to taste salty and sweet. Add ice and you really get that salt water sweet taste. I also found voyage 9 not to be as salty as the other voyage I tried. I think it tastes a lot more balanced.
- good job! You beat him!
- if you visit the max allowed times regularly, you will find things more often. I think that recently,, the frequency of things being there has been higher than before as well. Big congratulations on finding a Possessed Bow there. I seem to find lots of weapons, but not that - or those fishtail blades. I'm assuming you want those for your wardrobe, not for battle.
Very interesting - that would be a fun experiment - taste it neat and then add an ice cube and taste that.
Interesting story, but I thought it was mostly the wood of the barrels that gives bourbon its different taste, so what does the sea voyage add? Does the weather have an impact? I guess the humidity might but on a sea voyage it would always be humid and the barrel is sealed.
There is a trip to the liquor store planned for the near future. I wonder if they have any of either of those - goes to Google bourbons ...
Lol thanks for that info. I don't drink personally but I have a character who enjoys whiskey, that bit of knowledge really did help me out a lot. Even if you weren't really talking to me, thanks for sharing all the same. Lol I have a bottle of Gin on my bookshelf because I like the bottle. XD
Thank you! Looks like he can get 25 BQs done every day... well all things considered. If Dean or GE shows up he might have a little bit of a tricky time for the moment.
- You can beat Dean and General Error. Tos has been doing that. I think Dean is easier than Sandragon. General Error often takes many battles, but Tos beats him too - eventually. Tos can get 25 BQs done every day and then more if I get General Error after that. For me, it's more about do I have the time since I know that Tos can do it if I battle enough times. When I manage to get a win for a tough challenger, I try to record which weapons I use and at least start with those the next time. Sometimes Surge takes several battles as well. Not ready yet for Flamagia or Malerias Familiar or Chase or Crawbeast (he looks so benign compared to some of the others), so when they appear, I'm done.
HMm that does make sense. I do know GE is a pain due to being freeze and steal happy... only reason why I don't really want to deal with him. But I suppose I can try if he shows up next time.
Random Event Afflicted moans and groans for a few seconds, but gains 3 points of health!
Woohoo!
I have not really tried much bourbon (I am a Scotch Whisky drinker), but the way you talked about those bourbons totally make me want to give it a try!
- General Error is definitely a pain, but he doesn't seem to bother me nearly as much as Surge used to. :-)
- my local liquor chain store sells Smooth Ambler Contradiction for about $50. No Voyage , but for about double the cost of the Ambler, they also sell Voyage . I might just have to try them sometime. I usually don't drink very much but maybe I can find some people to share. :-)
Haha yes I purely want them for my wardrobe xD
It definitely is the wood in the barrel that gives it the flavor. It's a mixture of things that give it it's flavor when it's out at sea. There is no temperature control so sometimes the barrel can see extreme swings in temperature so that will have an affect on your liquor as it's aging. Depending on how rough the weather is, more of the bourbon can be hitting up against the inside of the barrel, so that might give it a more woody taste. You know how when you go to the beach, you can smell that salt water even if you are not physically on the beach yet? Have you ever been on a boat and still find salt water in your hair from the wind and spray? It's a similar thing with the barrels I think. The barrels aren't air tight so you will have some salt water on them, not a lot but I think over time the moisture soaks into the wood.
That's about the same that I paid for the Ambler, I think a little more because of tax. Oooh I haven't seen a voyage 10 around. Oh damn, I just looked it up and that is one of the cask strength batches. Cask strength makes it a higher proof and thus the more expensive cost. I would actually be super interested to hear how it tastes if you decide to buy it.
xD I'm glad I could help without even knowing it. was asking me about the bourbon I just picked up recently so I was trying to describe it to her. LOL I picked up a bottle of Italian wine because I thought it would look good in my wine bottle holder table piece xD
Haha I hope I was not coming off as pretentious! It is very hard to describe the taste of some liquor or fancy wine without sounding snooty x.x;; I have had some scotch whiskeys. Some were a little too earthy tasting for me. I prefer the bourbons because they are sweet. I did try one that my friend had that was really good. I can't remember the name though =/ I think it was an Irish whiskey.
Not pretentious at all, but then again I have been to many a tasting so I know what it's like. It was very informational and so intriguing... makes me want to branch out.
And there are four types of whiskies based on the region that they are made. Highland whiskys are sweeter so you may like one from that region, whereas you will probably not enjoy the Islay whiskies - those literally smell and taste like a smokey campfire due to the peat. One of my faves is the Glenlivet.

looks like I may be shopping on Black Friday for any summoning items that I have missed this year..thanks for letting me know about that.
It did take me a while to find the ones I like now. Yeah I don't like it when they are too peaty tasting. The one I had that I liked was a little peaty upfront but then mellowed out on the back so that taste didn't linger. Another one I had reminded me of Christmas. It had a little bit of spice going on. I had a couple of smokey bourbons but they were a little too smokey. It reminded of, like you said, a campfire. I also don't like the bourbons that are super sweet though either. Actually the one I have in my cabinet that I bought before I found the two I really liked is a good mix of not too sweet and not too earthy. It's a little smokey so it balances out the sweetness.
looool I was just about to quote the post and ping you. In all seriousness though, we need more MC challengers and high tier weapon drops.
Anytime! Black Friday was when I bought most of my challengers since I didn't have the CSC at the time they were released.
