August Book Vote is happening now! (Click here to vote!)

Welcome, Bookies, to the brand new Subeta book club! A group for all Subetans who love to read and talk about books! We welcome everyone and our only rules are be civil and no spoilers! Make sure to check out the FAQs and to join # bookies for bi-monthly pings!

Run by with help from , we strive to bring you awesome books every month. Be sure to ping one or both of us with any questions you may possibly have that aren't answered in the FAQs. :D

What do we read?

Classics "...A book which people praise and don't read."

Sci-fy "...Well! If it glows it must be important!"

Modern Lit
"...You're going to make me think, aren't you??"

Mystery/Thriller "...Seriously put the candlestick down, and get out of the Library."

Fantasy "...It has faeries, elves, an evil Queen, AND a talking dragon?!?!"

Historical Fiction "...Four score and wait no, that's not right. But it's set back in the day....Just read it."

Pulp/Popular Fiction "....Oh! I've been meaning to read that!"

Book Club FAQs

How does the book club work? Good question! Every month, the last week of the month, we will vote on the next month's book to read. Books will start on the 1st of every month and we will discuss things here after we have finished the books.

Oh no, but what about spoilers?? Don't worry, if anyone is going to post a spoiler they will be required to use a spoiler tag. This only goes until the next month though, so if you didn't finish the book, don't read spoilers!

This book is so long! It is going to take much longer than a month to read! Don't worry, during the vote for the book you can also make a comment on if you think the book should get longer than a month!

I'm too busy this month, can I opt out?? Totally! You can pick and choose whatever months you want to participate. We understand that life is hectic and that this is far more important than a book club. :D You will always be welcome to come back at any point.

I don't have a Kindle/Nook! What do I do?? No worries! You can still read Kindle books without owning a Kindle, I promise! Go ahead and make yourself a free Amazon account and buy the free book (we will never pick one that costs money!) so it can be added to your cloud. Then go to this site to read it from your cloud!

**Special thanks to for the book descriptions!

Watch for that moment... and when it comes, do not hesitate to leap.

Do we read and then discuss the books? Not sure how book clubs work...

I was thinking so yeah. Typical book clubs give you so many days/weeks to read a book, then you meet and talk about it. The things you liked, what you didn't. That kind of stuff. (But we would be doing it without the wine and snacks unless you have them at your home. Lol.)

I was thinking we would look at the weeks "featured" books on either Kindle/Nook and vote on one to read. Give everyone maybe a month (or less/more depending on the book and how busy everyone is) to read it and then post in a regular book club kinda way. (With no posting ahead of time so we don't spoil the book for anyone.)

Watch for that moment... and when it comes, do not hesitate to leap.

I'M IN I was just thinking "I should join a book club." I have access to a kindle :3 Suggestion: Genre a month + choose from books available as described previously. I'm thinking novels and just throwing these out there. <3

(Classics) ".... That we'll actually read." ** (Sci-fi-fantasy) "...Well! If it glows it must be important!" (Modern literature) "...You're going to make me think, aren't you??" (Mystery) "...Seriously put the candlestick down, and get out of the Library." (Historical Fiction) "...Four score and wait no, that's not right. But it's set back in the day....Just read it." (Pulp/popular fiction) "....Oh! I've been meaning to read that!"

:* Thank you for the ping <3

Thoughts on a bookclub if it can get up and running??

Thanks for pinging!

I'd be interested in this! I'm always looking for new things to read! I do have access to a kindle, however I prefer to read an actual book. I can always look for whatever it is that we're reading in the library first and if it's not available jump onto my kindle.

I think at least a month is a good timeframe for reading. It takes me about that long to get through a book nowadays with social life and work.

Great idea !

Those are some great ideas! I'm jotting them down in my notebook for the "official" page. :D

Oh that is super sweet hon! I forgot you could just get the app on most devices, including just on a laptop.

If you guys are interested, I made a ping group for this. ([url=https://subeta.net/forums.php/groups#/group/8508]Link to the group.[url])

I'd love to be part of this.

I'm normally a massive reader but have been quite bad this year because I moved and changed jobs and it's completely thrown my routine out and I'm now in a bit of a slump. I also just left my RL bookclub partly through not wanting to read much and partly because I hate them so I need a new one.

A book club is a cool idea! Can we opt in and out each month? Some months might not work if I have a lot To Do/ other books to catch up on, but I'd love to be a part of this.

I'd love to try this out except it would have to be free access like classics on wikisource bc no kindle and too hectic a schedule to trek down a library. :x
