Kanna vs Pet Sites: A Story in Three Parts. Well "story" is giving me a lot of credit, I accidently rambled about my entire origin story and then refused to reread/edit the monstrous wall of text I had created. Hopefully someone reads this and finds it interesting, otherwise my pet site autobiography was a horrendous waste of time, and now I'm rambling in the intro, damnit. Anyway... here's wonderwall-of-text.
When I was really little, like 7 or 8 I was a user on neopets (no surprise, a lot of our stories start there), I think my dad found it for me looking for safe online games for kids. I got really into it but I was a little too young to use the site properly and make money well so my dad helped me with that part. I have fond memories of exploring the site and telling my dad about with colors I wanted to paint my pets and him being the one restocking from shops and making neopoints toward my goals. I bought tons of plushies from trips to the mall with my dad (ofc we also stopped by the Lisa Frank store), collected the McDonalds plush toys, collected trading cards, and bought that cereal they released. It was a huge happy part of my early childhood. Then one day my dad got a super rare item from battling (I think? doesn't matter) and it was really expensive so he put it in the trades. We were both so excited because I'd be able to afford the paint brushes I really wanted, BUT then I got iced for "cheating/hacking". I cried a lot (I was like 10 at this time) and my dad was so mad and sent them a bunch of emails to which they never responded.
My dad then hunted for new pet sites and Subeta was one of them. "Looks like this is a new pet site so I don't know a lot about it but the pets look pretty" is how he introduced it (I might be paraphrasing but that's close enough). So I tried out some of the other sites first because Subeta "looked like a pet site for older kids" to me (lol). I ended up joining Subeta soon after since the other sites were boring and I was super confused by the items floating around on the site (it was Keith's birthday). I played for a little while then gave up for a year (to become a full time weeb) and came back to not remembering my password/not being able to access my account for some reason and made a new one. Older and "wiser" me was able to navigate the site much easier and fell in love with it. I made nerdy edgelord weeb friends at school and they fell in love with it too (fun fact: my only two referrals); we played all the time at school in our tech class we had together. More fun facts: My original username was Sasukesgirl8946 (I can't believe I remember the numbers) and my password was sasukeluver4eva (LOL, like I said, edgelord and weeb).
After a few years school got more intense, and I got into kpop and tumblr. So I just lived on tumblr and blogged about kpop for a few years checking in on Subeta periodically to check it's status and read the first page of the news. A couple loyalty boxes piled up, locked in my inventory. I now don't use tumblr anymore (still into kpop though) and instead spend my time watching nerds play video games and d&d (and playing myself). I decided to check in since it was October. I knew morostide would be going on and I could just pop in and trick-or-treat a couple times...well the trick was on me because now I have been fully sucked back in, doing my quests everyday, working on my pets, planning on hosting some HA contests, and now I'm posting a novel on the damn forums, what the heck, how did this happen.
TL;DR - Neopets broke my heart as a little girl (and my dad's), pre-teen edgelord weeb found love again, and early 20s failure-as-an-adult finds comfort, nostalgia, and a little fun in an otherwise dead and bullshit-filled world.
My wife introduced me to the site. Sorry that it's not very interesting
A friend introduced me to Subeta about 3 years ago. I used to play Neopets (and Gaia, briefly) so it caught my interest enough to sign up, but I played sporadically for the first 2 years. Only recently started playing regularly.
I was getting tired of how Neopets was getting so big and was looking for a smaller community. I joined several sites over the years, but only Aftermathzone and this one stuck for me. Aftermathzone disappeared after a while so I'm glad that Subeta has fared well. It's nice to have a somewhere to go back to. :)
think it was someone years ago put ad on the neoboards about Subeta and I joined.
A friend referred me and I joined because she needed the referral point and then my first Lumi got me hooked
I was part of the Great Neopets Charter Exodus, I think Lauzi was the person to suggest this site to our friend group that was really fed up with the mod rules over there and how the site was going... in 2006? Of that friend group I am the only one that still plays here, some still played Neo until very recently and others are out of the petsite world, but here I am. :P
By doing searches on various search engines while looking for new and free virtual pet games online. I had always used other pet games online so I decided to sign up here once I found it. Nobody had told me about it either but of course I wish my friends would have told me about this site sooner. I had my original account years ago but I had to end that account when I didnt have an internet connection for about a year or so. I have always loved free browser games online, esp. when their well done like this one! ;)
I heard about it from a friend
Luminaire Tree!

Introduced by my friend and came over from Gaia where we both were members.
I actually found it as an Ad on Facebook! XD

A friend showed it to me AGES ago. I was in the first year of high school.
I just searched for another pet site after I didn't like how another one was going. So, Google. :)
Oh man. 10 or 11 years ago, I stumbled upon this website "suta-raito" through the artist's DeviantArt I'm pretty sure. It was initially their Pokemon fanart that caught my middle-schooler interest, but I saw some originals/early Subeta pet designs and found Subeta.ORG! Ha! Wow.
I heard about it through a neo/IRL friend years ago x.x pop in couple of months for a while :p
One of my friends played it. I remember that she was actually playing during one of the big events at a sleepover and convinced me to sign up a few months later.
[center]Please Ping to get my attention!
It was kinda something where my mum was into it, and I slowly began to get curious about it so I decided to join! I have loved it every since! :)

Art by I was an avid user on neo back in the day, I think I was 15 when I first stumbled across subeta looking for another pet site. One that was a little more mature and lax with their rules. I stumbled across this place in a google search and was hooked. I loved everything about subeta. The pets are better, the people are better, all around subeta has turned out to be an amazing site. I am27 now, and I still play xD It will probably always be a guilty pleasure of mine. It's just a good place to hang out.
