Use Subeta Showcase, it's better.
It is better because you get to upload more of your stuff. Who cares if it's not active, it's a better place to keep a catalog for yourself. They don't ask for money and you get unlimited uploads. Plus it's not uppity and pretentious like stylefile.
Plus is has better upload options. It pulls your current avatar stright from Subeta or you can have it pull your saved stuff.
It seriously is better and you really can't say otherwise unless you try it. It may not be as flashy as stylefile but the coding and mechanics are way better and isn't that all that really matters?
I used to use it often, but I've been afraid it will just go down again. :( I would love love love to see the site more active and I would definitely don't a chunk to ensure that it STAYS up and that it gets some updates/is more active on the staff end/hire more staff or something.
I used to use SF all the time and I loved it. In the past couple years, I've been pretty discouraged away from any kind of HA-related cult because the cliques are too much for me to want anything to do with. Then when it started having problems staying up (what with Chic's leader being almost never on anymore), I kind of abandoned it. I've used both SF and Subeta Showcase, and I like them both, though SS has newer coding and less strict rules. I'd be interested in seeing SF get a makeover, or for it to have more active staff. As it is though, I wouldn't put money into it, simply because it looks like a sinking ship. :/ If there were some serious changes implemented to save it, then I'd definitely donate when I could.
Considering its less active than style-file, I don't really think that's a better alternative at this point.
i've also noticed that the site seems less active lately. i remember when the weekly top five were regularly getting 100 adores each, and now they barely get 30. not to mention i think there are just fewer uploads these days.
i think a lot of people feel like sf is a bit... exclusive, favoring chic members, and the highest-rated avatars typically belong to the same few popular users. (and... i don't even know how to apply to chic? are applications even open anymore because i feel like they've been closed for years??)
maybe contests or themes would help revive interest - the last contests were over three years ago as far as i can tell. people like contests or themes, even if there are no prizes involved, just for the sake of having a greater sense of structure and inspiration, i think.
It makes me very sad as well. My main reason for being on this site about 95% of the time is my avatar and then uploading to SF to join the fun and go in there and comment on other people's stuff. If Style-File were to be lost... I feel like my interaction on Subeta would die out with it.
I'm with you hun. I would like to become active and donate from time to time as well. When we needed to donate in order to be able to upload more avatars I was more likely to donate on a regular basis. Whatever I can do I'm in!
Oh, that is a wonderful idea! I always thought it was nice when they had 'chic' exclusives. I always wanted to get in on it. It really makes you feel a part of something when you have a symbol of some kind to dawn on your avatar. Maybe a piece of jewelry of some kind with 'SF' or something symbolizing our love for it?? Just throwing random thoughts out there...
Looking for
ahhh i LOVE sf honestly and i try to upload regularly when i think my avatars are good enough (which isn't as often as i'd like)! c: i've donated in the past and honestly i use it enough that i'd be more than happy to donate in the future (££ or time, even). i think i started getting serious about my HAs & uploading them right after sf started to decline (i don't remember any incredible HAs getting 100s of adores, more like 50-ish?) and i definitely feel like i've juuust missed the golden years of sf. anything like events, avatar contests, sf-exclusive cws, i would be SO into that! my HA/wardrobe are a huge part of why i'm so active on subeta and i love seeing what everyone else has come up with via browsing on stylefile ^___^
This is definitely something I'd rather not have happen, I really like Style File! I think it's fun and cute and overall functions much, much better than the only alternative I really know of (Subeta Showcase, which I tried for like a week way way back and I then very quickly tried to forget).
Also, just throwing this out there, Lily () and I are currently going about messing with things so that I'll end up being the leader of Jellybean, which afaik is one of the only non-CHIC HA cults that's been around for any substantial period of time. If I can do anything in particular, even if it's just directing people there to upload things for our regular avatar contests (which should start back up soon if all goes well) or the contests for the event/holiday contests I'm planning, lemme know. Not a ton of them are up to CHIC's standards by any means, but it'd be traffic, and I'm hoping to get some of them to branch out a bit more and perhaps improve, so maybe it'd help them too.

I think I stopped uploading to SF when I became less active in Subetan Runway. And that was maybe four years ago. I think I became more into training and battling my pet and so HA making took a back seat. Here's hoping that it will be revived with new staff, events and members.

I looked into it when I first came back from my hiatus and the easy saving wasn't working. If I can't do an easy upload then I won't be active, I'm too lazy - having to take a screenshot, crop, upload to a site, etc. is more time than I'm willing to put in. If that is fixed though let me know, I'll be happy to try it out again.... ^_^
Thanks for all the feedback, guys!!
I really hope that everything helps reviving the site.
Yes, I know that the direct link doesn't work unfortunately. You don't need to take screenshots, cropping and so on, though. Just right click on your current HA, save it on your desktop and upload it from there. It's way longer than uploading by direct link, but it's also faster than what you used to do! C:
Ooh! This would be great!!! It would help, imo.
I donated too and I'll keep doing it as long as people are active.
Umm. I don't know, I think that it's not going to go offline. :o
Everyone has their preferences. I prefer SF. 😊 Moreover, you don't have to pay to upload if you don't want to. Also, I'm personally interested in an active site, sorry. (And I think that everyone who uploads on SF does, but I may be wrong on that.) I had an account on SS and I just didn't have fun uploading there. :(
You make lovely HAs, though! I'd love to see you back on there!
I've never seen SF in all its glory, but I still liked when you needed to have more than 40 adores to reach the weekly top five! Haha!
Please, feel free to do as you feel. I always like looking at others' HAs (especially when they are different from the usual ones) and voting them when I like them! C:
I'll see if we can work it in then! I think part of it is that a lot of people don't realize how easy it actually is (especially when they first sign up because iirc you have to read through a million rules before you can make an account and it's a little intimidating) so perhaps if it's explained a bit more, they'll go for it. Worth a try, I think! ^_^ I never got to see SF at its peak where things could get hundreds of adores in a month (my first upload was literally January 3, 2016) but I'd love for it to get back there.
I was like that for a while too, but you totally should! We need more males on there to balance out the girls, and the ones of yours I've seen have all looked nice n_n I try to make male avatars sometimes but I'm just not as good at it, aha. Plus, even if you don't want to upload your own outfits, there's always some interesting ones to look at!

We do have a reasonably active staff roster; I regularly see , and doing admin stuff behind the scenes and I know is active on here, too (hey :P). I think, more than anything, we've lacked some direction for a while and a little clarity on the site's status.
I have an idea for a weekly contest that I'd be happy to run and donate prizes to. Maybe I can get something together this evening. WE WILL SEE.
(let me see if this works )
I think has hit the nail on the head. More than anything, we have lacked direction since most of the leadership has gone for one reason or another and we have no idea what is happening with the site regards keeping it up. We have been around doing routine admin stuff, but we have been in the dark as much as everyone else.
(on a personal note, I haven't been uploading because I'm never happy with my HAs!)
Did not get pings earlier for this...
Anyway style-file is fun, but yeah the main reason it has had trouble is due to its small niche. It was targeted to fashion cults, so obviously when those people grow up/have less time to spend on subeta, there will be a steep decline in users. Fashion cults as of now are pretty much dead tbh let's face it, CHIC for example hasn't had applications open since like what 2014? So SF definitely needs to expand its niche through options such as those presented in previous posts.
But one thing that may deter many is definitely the aspect of everything being a popularity contest, there are a certain amount of users that pop up on the front page seemingly all the time. It's definitely not for everyone, but it's nice to have one's ego padded i guess. What I'd suggest is to maybe implement an option for no adores as well, for those who just want a place to store avatars with noses and receive feedback through comments or something.
Another issue is that the state of the wardrobe renders avatar making as a bit of a hassle. Salon codes are annoying to replicate, item layer dragging glitches after like 5 min. Sometimes the site lags to the point it's impossible to even get into the wardrobe. It makes avatar making essentially not as fun anymore. Not SF's fault obviously, but it definitely does factor into the livelihood of SF in general.
I guess what I'm saying is, style-file activity is associated with subeta activity. a percentage of people on subeta use sf. less people active on subeta = less people active on sf. you can think of ways to possibly increase % of users of subeta who use sf, sure, but many loyal people on subeta as of now are solely pet/battle people who'd never ever think of using SF. i wish you good luck.
As I commented you, I'd be more than happy to help with prizes for a SF event!
I am appreciating all the replies and thoughts about it. I thought that nobody cared of it anymore. ;_;
Yeah I totally agree with you Michelle. There's been big changes since the site's heydays - the decline of fashion cults, the wonky wardrobe, the introduction of CWs - each having a subsequent effect on site activity. I definitely think there's less of a popularity angle now though and see different faces popping up on top 5 increasingly, which is nice, but can see how it's put people off over the years. The 'prestige' has fallen off imo, which is both good and bad if you get what I mean.
Used to change ha every week and upload to SF. It was kind of discouraging to get so few likes on them so an option to turn that off could be nice.
Did we ever have yearly subs available? I did the lifetime thing when it first came out.
The one thing I really love about SF is the comments section, allows me to list my layers in order in case anyone wants to borrow an idea or I needed to recreate.
Less active with making ha nowadays so they get backed up to Dropbox before anything else.
If I have claimed a Dance from you and do not immediately Dance I will get back to you.

[/font]MAKE STYLE FILE GREAT AGAIN no but really, i love this thread so much so thank you because SF has been my only reason for using subeta since like... it came out lmao
as far as ideas to help go, i'm pretty useless just because i'm super busy lately, but i'm happy to see some of y'all have ideas! i think it would be good to see if we could inject some of this newer, more active blood into the SF team just to pump more life into it again (i haven't actually been on the mod team in years i just occasionally confirm new members in the ping group)
