Mercy is my most played, due to so,e really mushy sentimental reasoning I have lmao. I like playing most of the characters though, Phara is my most played in the Offence role, she's horribly fun to play when the enemy team refuses to counter her. I haven't had much of a chance to try Orisa, the few times I have I end up dead pretty quickly and end up going Winston lol. Any tips from your experience?
Cool! I'll try practicing on using Phara, it does seem fun to kill while flying around! For Orisa I've found it to be pretty useful to set up a shield before attacking. Then once it gets destroyed, you should immediately use fortify. By cycling through it you're practically protected everytime haha
Just had a few great competitive matches; a wonderful change from my general story of losing. Playing Mercy of course; I'm not really confident playing anyone else in comp, though if I had to I would. It feels so nice to be thanked after the matches too :)
The anniversary video totally made me tear up, it was so sweet.
I always find comp matches at the end of the season to be fun, they're way more relaxed probably because people stop caring about SR idk. . That said I still need to queue into this season lmao. I've always queued in with my friends but I'm solo-ing this season and still need to do 3 more placements :/
Thanks for the advise, what should I do with her shield? Every time I notice it cracking badly and my cool down is up I generally throw a new shield down. Do you think I should wait until my original shield breaks or just throw up a new one when I can? I know it's mostly situational but in general I'm just wondering
One of the things I love about Overwatch is how different the heroes are even in the same category. Like, each one of the tanks is different. Unfortunately this does mean sometimes one is hugely favored over another. There are lots of situations that you just plain need a Reinhardt, since he has the biggest and toughest shield. Different DPS heroes are better against different enemies. For instance, Pharah is only easily takeable down by a small number of characters (Soldier 76, Widowmaker, another Pharah, Torbjorn's turret, Bastion, to some degree Mercy, with 76 being the best bet by far).
The healers differ a huge amount. Mercy's best at individual healing. Ana can heal at long range and do a decent amount of sniping damage. Zenyatta is a combo single-target DPS and single-target heal. Lucio heals multiple characters at once if they're within range, and the ability is totally passive so he can spend more time on self-defense and even DPS.
Currently favored team balance is two healers, two dps, two tanks. Occasionally one DPS and three tanks, mostly so you can add the tanks that are really more damage-dealers just tough ones. Single healing is feasible in quickplay but it's really really hard in comp; plus, two healers means you're more likely to have one of them alive and within healing range.
I think most situations call for a Reinhardt unless you're running the really aggressive Dive Comp where you're gonna swap him out for Winston. He might be used a little less now that Orisa is around as she's an anchor take too but I have a feeling they might end up being used together for some super shielding oh gosh just thinking about a bunch of shields on Hanamura point 1 defense and Anubis point 2 defense
Although I think Ana is the best at individual healing in terms of healing per second isn't she?
May 23 dance emotes incoming. I love this. (Oh and there's some new maps or something, w/e w/e.)
I think when it comes down to numbers, Ana is technically the best healer, and can solo heal just fine. However, that's only if she lands her shots. With Mercy, you don't have to worry about aiming, and can solo heal just as well with her too usually. But yeah, generally a good Ana > Mercy.
Speaking of healers, I do wish they'd introduce another one to the game. I've seen a lot of people discuss this idea of an evil/Talon-affiliated character who sort of "steals" health from enemies to give to allies. It seems interesting! (and I just want some more variety tbh lol) [edit]Oh right! The dancing emotes! I forgot about those. They seem so cute~
OH MY GOD
I was actually thinking about retiring from Overwatch because I've just had too many awful games lately, but...now I don't know if I can. I came over from TF2, I can't resist a dance taunt!
drags back into Overwatch Come to the dark side, we have dance taunts.

I haven't played in so long, every time there's an event now I'm just like shit how do I do this again???? But yeah they're pretty rad.
Ana doesn't have a hands-off auto self heal and must waste her grenade to do it. That impacts things a lot. Also, while they're both dependent on line of sight, Mercy's healing continues for a bit if the target moves out of sight. Mercy's res is also really useful and counts as a heal in a sense. It's also an ult counter that if done right completely wipes out anything the ult did.
So IMO there's little different in their practical healing output and both have situational advantages. Best choice is to have both if heal output is the critical factor. But there's many situations where Lucio's speed boost is useful or Zenyatta's DPS is.
Oh yeah, I understand that Mercy is fine at solo healing I have almost 200 hours on her, love playing her to death. Human error through aiming is the downfall of Ana which is why she does best when stacked with three and even four tank comps(I think quad tanking with Ana was the most used pro wise ?), the bigger the character the easier to hit and you only need like a 63% accuracy to still be the best healer. They could probably nerf her healing below Mercy and she would still be prevalent because of her kit. Blizzard really gave her an awesome lineup between the grenade health boost and the sleep dart. Her grenade is why I think Zen isn't used as much anymore seeing as how it completely negates his whole ultimate (which I'll always be a little upset by tbhhh) Kinda like how they can nerf Lucio as much as they want but his speed boost is so good he's still prevalent Although I could be totally wrong about that thought, I have noticed Mercy being used more in master/grandmaster level since her buff
I've heard about the Talon healer who steals life. I think it's a really neat concept but they'd almost have to be a hybrid between support and DPS or maybe have a leech that they could attach to someone on their own team who is dealing a lot of damage so they could maybe have some of that put into their health pool. Idk it seems like on their own they'd have to be dealing a loooot of damage to heal up their Rein or Winston? Maybe they could have an AoE at base level like Lucio and then the damage they deal could be used as a boost to his base AoE kinda like Lucios Amp. Or maybe a base AoE and the damage they deal can be used as direct healing like Zens Orb/Mercys beam/Anas bullets. I think I like that second idea better because keeping tanks alive is super hard when I solo as Lucio. That's my own fault though lol
What!? Dance emotes are a thing?? (I've been super busy this past week so I'm totally like WHAT)
I am dying over Zenyatta's. He looks like...an orb-bender...from Avatar The Last Airbender oh my goooosh.
The survivability fixes for Mercy (invulnerable after res for a few seconds, and health regen starting after only 1 second after ceasing to take damage) made a huge difference to her viability. Which unfortunately makes me even more likely to be reckless with her; I'm not quite cautious enough. Too many quickplay matches where Mercy could out-DPS the DPS; it's satisfying to get gold eliminations on Mercy just to show up the people on your team. Mercy should not be medaling in elims at all, if the rest of the team is playing well. I think my maximum kills in a match was 24 as her?
It's also delightful to take out flankers 1v1 which is quite do-able unless they're good. And I've killed my fair share of Reinhardts with Mercy, mostly by shooting them in the back of the head after sidestepping their charge.
I have yet to pop into this thread (because I play on console and how many others here do, but I will totally talk your head off about it), but I wanted to link everyone to the anniversary skins that have leaked.

Omg getting a medal in elims as a healer is a really bad sign lol.
Idk how I feel about those leaked skins. They're definitely my least favorite out of all the other event skins we've gotten. I wonder how the other skins will look like (assuming there are more than just those four...)
I usually set out a new shield just before the previous one breaks!
I'm quite excited for the anniversary! It's the last day of my finals on the exact say day so... I know who's going to stay up all night playing Overwatch!
Anyway, I also don't know what to feel about the leaked skins. :O They're new but not necessarily that appealing for me
@ found either a really bad sign or a really good sign i guess hah. (i.e lucio on koth maps i p much always get medals eventho i usually dont really deserve them as i mostly just tag people with boops but it means ive mostly been alive!)
uh yeah those skin previews.. i was low key hyped for a new zarya skin but then we get /this/ 😰 not into soldiers either. i guess pharah looks decent.
I'm reserving full judgment until I see them in game, but: not really excited about Soldier's though it's not BAD either. Zarya's is weird and I'm not sure what I think. Pharah's is low-grade good I think. Bastion's one is excellent and I want it.
Mercy better get a skin. Even though she's probably had the most additional skins but still I want it dammit.
