If I have to choose between pet revamps/new colors and the spotlight.

Bye bye spotlight.

I do not think holding new pets and revamps hostage for the Spotlight is really the way to go. I do really wish there was more action or at least more discussion about how things are progressing. Over a year for brainstorming just seems overly long for such a feature. I also agree that pet focused activities are sorely lacking, and it is very frustrating.

Isn't the main person in charge of spotlight approvals and stuff? She's not even a staff artist, so spotlight changes shouldn't be affected by pet releases. At least not to the extent that they should need to stop releasing pets in order to make progress with the spotlight.

Edit: Looks like she does CWs, so apparently I don't know what I'm talking about. :)

I&;m not sure if this is the case. It may also be that the staff just takes extra more time to make a choice and meet with each other because for example, one staff member knows more about a character from a reference to an unknown game and other staff members may have never heart about such a reference at all. So it is not always easy to directly estimate how far a pet page can get the nomination. That is perhaps not indifference.

I said this before (possibly even on this thread?), but I don't see why staff should have to fact check everything before approving it. No amount of fact checking should keep a pet in the queue for 15 months, so it's kind of ridiculous to think that that's the bottleneck. (At least I hope it's not.)

Im a person who likes having old issues solved before inventing new things. I have no pets enabled for spotlight except one and no motivation for creating new ones due to the spotlight issue. Actually there is not very much left what keeps me on this site. Maybe the events, but surely not the way, how our concerns are handled. For a pet site subetas focus is far off pets.

I see no reason why Subeta staff should not be able to both release new pets (which artists do with some management oversight) AND revamp a feature that they (management) have been discussing and brainstorming how to improve, and gotten ample feedback from the players on, for a year now.

These are competent professionals. I think they just lack focus, and prefer to move on to fun new features they can create from scratch like the new bakery, minion zoo (albeit unfinished) and so on, rather than finish up the difficult tasks that they started a while back (wardrobe? cult revamp? the spotlight).

Yeah, I have to agree with on this one. The staff may be small, but there is nothing that should prevent staff from both creating new pets/art and revamping the spotlight at the same time.

Honestly, I am worried as to why the spotlight has not at least been upped to 5 pets per week. This was asked for back in December (I asked for it on the Pet Spotlight thread) and then again here back in January. I am concerned that the reason for this is due to the number of pets in the queue being too small... which would happen if there is a review bottleneck.

I personally now have a pet that has been in the queue for 12 months. This pet is NOT a fan pet in anyway! In fact, my pet is based on Subeta! So the delay is especially confusing in this case.

Radio silence on something this heated is really, really bad and discouraging. :( I know that I have held off on finishing more pets due to this, and even though I am still getting pet inspiration, this kind of makes me not care to finish pets. The pet spotlight should NOT be the only drive for finishing pets, but for many of us, it still IS a drive, when there are few other (official, site sponsored) things to do with your pet.

The thing that is most frustrating for me regarding this, is that it was that stated that it was a possibility!!

I am still accepting pets into the queue, because if I didn&;t, the queue would shut down completely, and that&;s not happening. We&;re at a point now where 5 wins a week would be totally possible again, but I don&;t want to switch up to that until we redo the system. I still might do that, but I&;m due for a meeting on the system soon and would rather wait.

That was in JULY. 9 months have passed, and it appears that the only possible reasons this hasn't happened to are either that just doesn't want to, or that they never had that meeting on the system that she was waiting on

can correct me if I'm wrong on this, but being in charge of approving pets in the queue does not automatically put her in charge over the overall direction, management, and decision making for the spotlight.

Like I write procedures for my day job, but if the team's process sucks, it's not my job to fix it for them. It's my job to document the sucky process they're following.

I don't know if this is true. I just speculate what could be the reason, in the hope the staff could give more clearness.

I'm actually no longer in charge, nor working on the pet spotlight, and haven't been for nearly a year now :) just FYI and others! I asked to have it removed from my duties for a variety of reasons.

I wish we had then in this case a meet the staff page that listed duties so we know who to address. This is a pet site with a focus on wearables instead of pets at this point in time.

Its more like a wearable site with some pets, in my opinion. When was the last time we even got anything for pets besides new colors/revamps? The GA change? And before that what was it? I can't even remember.

I received a pet from a friend when she left Subeta due to RL matters (re: single mum to a teenaged daughter) and he's sat in the spotlight queue since to my knowledge. This was well over two years ago.

Pets are one of the only things I do now on Subeta. I do rarely submit them to Spotlight, but tbh after the strict rules they implemented a while ago I lost most of my interest in it. I will still work on my pets (slowly but surely...lol) because I do enjoy designing and writing. I do think it looks like spotlight, like cults and many other features of this site that made it great have been placed on the back-burner for years now. I don't have high hopes that anything will change anytime soon.

There is also the promises from many staff where things are being worked on/will be worked on and then nothing is said or done about it again which is a big reason why I MIA for months at a time.

I believe to stand firm to tell about which the problems must be solved may help (once). It's a necessity to continue to notice some old problems again and again. That requires a lot of patience as a regular user. That is very clear.

Furthermore, neither the staff nor the users all understand each other enough in the case what's does real matter + what's going on, I suppose so.

That, you have a point. It's for many users very important. shrugs

My question is why can't the Spotlight increase to 5 per week since there is a large bulk of pets queued and thinning it some before shifting it back to 3 per week? Why can't the Spotlight be fluid based on the supply of pets waiting?

I'm at 3 pets queued with a 4th probably ready by the end of the week.

Still needs keener attention to nominees and them not languishing in there forever. Still desperately needs official feedback on pets and why they were rejected.

I don't even try for Spotlight anymore, just because I've had so many pets rejected again and again for reasons that I and others can't figure out. There's only so far that conversation with non-staff can go, and it's not really a contest if the judges won't give you any feedback.

I'm here for the pets, and honestly, if it was either the Spotlight or more colors/species/functionalities, I'd pick the second one every time. :/ The lack of support for pet stuff like this is what's made me grow distant from this site compared to others, honestly.

This is really what's getting me. I'm trying to rekindle the love but with constant error pages I can't even do anything! Wanting to code a profile and having the site refuse to load whenever I'm in the mood doesn't inspire me to keep trying.

Combine that with staff's seemingly total indifference to pets and I'm trying to find another pet site. I stick around for my main cult (though, of course, pretty much everything we do has to take place off site because cults are also severely neglected) and Treasure Chests (which I can hardly touch lately thanks to all the errors). I wouldn't say I have any plans to quit but I barely spend any time on Subeta itself.

Pets are still heavily advertised on the front page so it would be nice if our concerns were actually addressed. People can only wait it out for so long. Eventually they'll get fed up and leave.
