You have a tree regardless if you set it up or not.

the trees are gonna open today, tomorrow, or the day after, right...? subeta is really losing a tonne of money because of this tree thing... i'm putting off buying CSC to purchase cw's because they might already be under my tree, same for the collection bags- the 'daily goal' meter seems to be really reflecting this. are there any new updates as to when we can expect the trees to open, or is it still looking like friday?

I have another late question: We did get the Melody items from the days when problems occured as gifts. What about those we were able to get from Melody on those days? We have duplicates of them now. Are they OK to keep or should we delete one of each?

It's okay to keep them, the Free Shop is giving away a ton of Melody items anyway. So don't worry about the duplicates.
