Kinda that more reserved facial expression...

Hey! I'm so sorry for my silence the past couple of weeks. I got sick with one thing, and the moment I got a bit better & pushed I got sick again with another. It's been quite draining."orz I'm just now starting to get better, and I've got so far as to get the lines & flat base down for the kerubi, so he should require just one more sitting!

Hope all is going well with your students, too! Forgetting how to be decent civil human beings usually comes from what they've been taught + fear of rejection & / or failure & / or lack of personal value. There's some deep root that needs to be sought out and tended to, or pulled out & the wound soothed, but that's partly an introspective process they have to choose to dive into themselves, which can be very scary, even with help. 'No-one understands me' - in a way it's true, because so much is bottled up, and if you don't understand half of it yourself, how can you put it into words? And if you can't put it into words, how can anyone else understand you? Kids that young haven't really yet developed the kind of self-insight that's often needed to get going, nor the motivation for self-improvement, because their view on self-improvement is so disturbed by their social setting, whether that means peers, home, or both. The more they can grow to be aware of themselves, their inherit value, their personal strengths & abilities (uncompared to others) & the value of these, as well as learn about the basics of being human - of weakness & failure, and how it's a natural part of growth that's nothing to be afraid of (not to mention the subjectivity of such words!) - the more at ease they'll grow, and with that they're likely to turn into more rounded end well-off human beings.

There's a certain loneliness connected with the human condition, regardless of age, and young teens are living the symptoms without understanding the cause. It's not just them, but I think adults are just better at internalising. That just makes it worse, of course. Still, you can't break into a human soul without invitation, you can't rearrange their inner rooms without permission, and if you can't find the cracks or offer them a connection that they can identify with - make them think 'aren't we so different, after all?' & voluntarily relax their defences - all you can do is be a good example & look for openings to which you can offer your hand.

..Sorry for the rant; human nature is a fascinating thing. ~

- I was worried about you but I figured life might have taken a little turn. I'm glad to hear it was just a cold but nothing sucks more than a cold! I hate to think of the times I would relapse after being sick...with all the crap going on in my life, getting sick just isn't in the cards lol. I've oddly been surprisingly healthy this year even with two or three kids out sick every period o O (* knocks on wood *)

You are definitely right on a lot of what you have said. I've learned that for some kiddos life is just too much for them to properly function, much less comprehend the concepts we're learning about. A favorite question asked during interviews is whether you think every student can be taught and I've started to actually say no to this. I think every student has the ability to learn but whether they can get to that point in my classroom is another story. I've had 8th graders who have completely changed since they were in my 7th grade classes and I think a majority of it is maturity and just learning how to be a student, to follow expectations, to be accountable to their responsibilities.

I have one student right now who likely won't be residing at my school due to attendance issues because he takes advantage of his mom's mental health issues and I kinda think to myself...what happened? Where did things go so awry that a son will take advantage of that type of situation. As a mother it breaks my heart to think that a child could do that but also because I wish he could realize that his behavior is so, so wrong....that he needs to be supportive of her. I just hope that perhaps such changes can help him realize that what he's doing goes against the grain of human compassion and that he can grow from the experience. I hope...

Now, Filigree! Her facial expression is amazing now! Her gaze is so piercing too...I love it! You did an awesome job portraying her reserved nature <3 I'm still oohing and aahing over the antennae btw ^ ^

The end of winter here has resulted in lots of snow, but now it should be warming up again (hopefully for the last time xD). It's been quite snowy here as well; they've even lifted the ban on feeding deer & moose because the conditions have been so tough on them. Today it's been a whooping 12 degrees (celsius) though, so hopefully things will ease up a bit - not least for the animals!

Thank you. It's been tiring; once I get knocked out getting up again takes a frustrating amount of time - and of course drawing & communication are the two most difficult things to regain a hold of (for which I am very sorry). As of now I've done my best to rearrange my time to hopefully make things easier & help me build up my strength again. With some luck the spring sunshine might do its part as well!

Oh wow, that they lifted that ban really says something. It will be good when the weather starts warming up. I know here it will get warm, then turn cold again, then get warm. A never ending cycle it seems.

No need to be sorry, I understand completely. I love writing, but when life hits, it tends to not be very possible to write. And communication is always the worst, but warm weather helps bring out the good in everything, so I hope it gets warm for you soon.

I think I would rather have the hockey stick beneath him, but that was a hard choice since it looks good up also. x) Or maybe the stick part laying near his belly so you can see it some, and then it going between his paws so his paws are holding the stick right before it starts to curve. The only other thing is that that the face looks a bit odd. It reminds me more of an anyu than a clawsion. So maybe a bit thinner neck, furrier cheeks, larger ears, and the saber teeth. Would it also be alright to give him brown eyes? They seem to be the one thing I always overlook. And sorry, I always feel bad requesting too many changes.

- I saw the invoice the other day and paid asap but I haven't had a chance to sit down and check on Subeta! I have a massive amount of grading this past weekend but now I'm all caught up. I didn't realize you had discounted and wish you hadn't! I'm not impatient and would gladly still pay the full commission price as you always go above and beyond my expectations!

As for the pieces, the Kerubi looks amazing. I love how the moss and the grass growth turned out on the fabric. It turned out so realistic and lush! My only request would be to make the eyes be just a bit more dull. I figure after so many years of exposure to the elements the shininess has faded some.

And for Filigree, the shift between green and gold on the laurels is just perfect! No changes please...still love her expression! GAH so stern and determined!!

Yeah, it's definitely not spring yet! Temperatures are swinging between roughly +10C & -10C, one moment the sun is out and everything is dripping away, the next we have another half-metre of snow. It's ridiculous, but March can be that way...

Ops, I totally forgot about his saber teeth;;; I based the sketch off of some dog pictures I had in a book, though I can see where you got the anyu impression from. xD Oh, and the colours in the preview are muted (low opacity) just to make the sketch easier on the eye, but he'll be far more vivid when finished!

They've always been a bit of a mystery to me, and I really admire artists who know how to draw them smoothly. I took a new approach with these and quite like the result, and I'm glad you like them as well ❤️

This guy sprouted & grew on his own terms, and in a way I'm glad, because it seems he knew exactly what he was doing. The moss was fun once I figured out how to mix the colours & textures, and as complicated as he looks he was actually quite relaxing to work on. Please let me know what you think now that the spark has gone from his eye (ouch)!

Ouch yeah, and the worst part about melting and getting cold again is that everything turns to ice. Maybe once March is over everything will start warming up and stay that way. ^^

That would explain the anyu look then. xD He had looked like a cute little bear-dog. And I guessed that about the colors, but I never knew the reasoning. It really would be hard to work on a sketch if the colors were bright.

He looks perfect now!
