Loving all these updates today. :D You earned a cookie! Hell, you've earned a whole PLATE of cookies. lol gets to baking
These are great changes right here! :D One day may be short, but I think that really should be okay. If it becomes a problem, the time can then be lengthened. I just remember that when I came from Neo (all those long years ago), I was so used to having to make really awful names because so many were taken... that when I came here, I made awful ones, thinking the same was true. It quickly became apparent that I didn't really need to worry about that, so I changed my pets names (though I was nice and used hyno name changes). It's true, mostly trolls create bad names on purpose, but plenty of people may not realize they can just plain make better names here at first. I don't see any reason to prevent those people from pounding and recreating the pets. a 24-hour wait should be just long enough to deter trolls without penalizing true new members.
Thank you for the change, great to see that my suggestion got heard.
Personally I think one day is fine. Most of the time trolls are pretty dang obvious and will get caught before a day goes up anyway.
Could there be a link to Adoptions added to the Pets page? It would be helpful, I think.
I've always created my own pets because at first I didn't know that Adoptions even existed. Looking at it now, I wish I had back then! I'm seeing Experiments, Sweetheart, Nightmare, Bloodred, and Reborn pets . . . I'm also seeing good names, like Silverclaw, Jaavier, Hallelujah, Aslaya, Elasmosaurus . . .
I dislike trolls... Thanks for taking care to keep them at bay.

I really really extremely want:I think 3 days is a fair amount of time, not too short, not too long. Maybe the trolls will change their evil ways. :D

What about the ability to delete pets ? If someone has a slot open they can go through and just delete terribly named pets. Hell, staff can have a designated account to do just that at random. That would also make for some less bitching whenever you decide to delete the entirety of the pound (I know, not often). Special colors aren't that terribly hard to get and if someone deletes a nicely named pet their name is free for grabbing anyhow.
In regards to the pet ghosting, what about having an option for users to report pets in the pound? I think 90% of the population who use the pound have enough common sense to to know if a pet named ggdghijbcdfhb5654456 won't be adopted thus it helps staff know sooner which ones to ghost.
Or even have a flagging system. A user flags a name in the pound, a staff member looks at the flag then decides whether to keep in the pound or ghost.

An option to delete Pets should only be available for staff imo. I am not concerned about names or colors but about Pet IDs that people could adopt and delete just because they can.
You never know, I've lasted 8 years so far!

I'm in the minority, but I feel like a 1-day wait to abandon is more than enough and I'm 100% satisfied with this.
There shouldn't be a double-standard established because of bad past experiences.
So no to a one-week wait to abandon. We want new users to have a good time, not feel burdened with limits.

I mean, people should have fun here and not feel restricted by something. 1 day is enough I think.
If we get an influx of trolls again or something, then yeah the limit should be raised (I'm in the boat for 3 days though, not a week). But until then I think one day is plenty long enough
Me too! My first pet was sent to me when I first joined here. Polly is now being made into my battle pet. I would never abandon her.
This is an invalid argument because account age has nothing to do with that, a scarecly active long time player could do the same. Perhaps it's because I'm not a name OCD but I, in addition, don't see why this is a concern. Personally I don't pout over not getting the name I want, firstly because I create all my pets rather than adopt and am able to feel satisfied with a barely altered variation of a desired name which is taken. Notice how all my pets names have either a single underscore after them or astrics on either side. I only find two things unattractive in a name:
A restriction preventing new users adopting expensively potioned/colored pets does have it's valid reasons. It encourages new users to actually play the game because it forces them to have to build up their own decent pet (ex. saving up SP for the potion or whatever item is necessary to change it's color or completing wizard quests to use the zapper which is paid for in wizard tokens and increasing it's stats via the gym) rather than taking the easy road to an impressive pet collection via just plucking them already well-trained and colored from the pound. Depending on how much interest the user has in battling this could render the pets more useless and enable the user to abandon their account more quickly.
If anything, I'd say two weeks is not long enough of a restriction.
(to the user who doesn't like the word 'colored' you're gonna have to deal, I can't conjure up another and also don't want to apply the Neopets term 'painted' here as it's unoriginal and not even accurate, Subeta doesn't have any pet items named after paint methods and/or concepts).
If however, the pound is, as described, receiving significantly less activity due to this restriction than I can see some counterproductiveness and an adjustment may be merited but I don't support it being dropped.
Now, regarding the newbie wait period for abandoning a pet, that in particular serves NO purpose that I can see. If crappily named pets over-populating the pound is the concern there then how about instead just making abandonment cost a fortune in SP. It's been a while since I've abandoned a pet so perhaps there IS a price for it but if that's the case just make the newbie price higher for that same first month. This gives them the option while still forcing them to have to think about it and to take more care when creating a pet which is still an effective way of decreasing the amount of crappy names in the pound.
I guess my only question is would the pet ID be reset from the ghosted/deleted pets ? I know the ID is important to some people. Other than that, this is a fine change.
collecting Great changes so far Keith! :D
Honestly, I think I've only visited the Pound once or twice since my account was created.
I find them very helpful for the site. Especially when those who create pets with awful names just for abandoning them to the pound. And clog up the Pound with them knowing that it'll most likely never be adopted. The suggestion mentioned that if a user admin can delete those "ghosting"/awfully named pets would probably help free up the Pound.
For now I think that this >>(
