Thank you! I love drawing curls actually, I think they're one of my strong suits.

I decided to just add a soft blur effect to the whole thing and edited the first post. GIMP has soft brushes but they don't work very well at all, nothing like photoshop's soft brushes. It's due to engine differences I think.

Yeah, I wouldn't know, having never used GIMP, but I'm sure those that have could agree. I know many of the cw artists here either use PS or SAI. I think the softening helped, but there's something about how the highlight is just in one spot that also seems a bit weird. Most wings have a highlight that is more or less a line of lightened color, where somewhere in the middle of it all his a bit bolder/brighter to indicate the pain focus of the light. I think just draw those lines out a bit and keep them soft, you'd have a good wig on your hands me thinks.

That looks pretty good to me, I like how you deal with curls, though I agree with Odduck on it still being rather pixelated. The line weight also looks a little inconsistent in places, mostly at the very top of the wig.

I also really don't know Gimp I'm afraid, I haven't used it since my GCSE days. I use either SAI or Photoshop. The only thing I could offer with the sharpness of the highlights is you could tone them down a little for a very dark wig like this one.

I'm borrowing Nono's wig here, but quite often with dark wigs artists use very subtle highlighting, which seems to be acceptable by staff standards :3

Also - I think you use Gimp? You might be able to help out with the line/brush thing here. I think there might be a bezier tool which I used with the soft brush in Gimp? But like I said it's been a long time. I could be talking out of my arse.

I reduced the highlights drastically and edited the first post! I'm not sure if there's much I can do about the pixelation though. If there's a way to reduce it in this program, I'm unaware of it.

The coloring and highlighting looks quite nice actually on the last attempt. Smoother and the color is better with the darker. Looking at the previous, the top did look too gray. So this is a nice change. I hope you can figure out how to make it work for other colors tho, would be a shame if you couldn't recolor it. So yeah, keep going at it though and try practicing the same technique. =)

I figured out how to recolor it! I can only do real dark ones though, like chestnut and plum and midnight blue. I hope I can find a way to do things like blonde and silver.

Already getting the hang of it. These are super. If you come out with a platinum color let me know. Can't go wrong with platinum. I'm sure you will get better and better. Good luck.

omgosh , i love these. lol. but i'm with i need a platinum (white) before any other color. lol (even red these days, ) but My GOSH I love the style! long and curly, with the curls going over the back, so you can still see the outfit.

BUT, (Just MY Opinion) i think if she started doing wigs, specializing in "jewel" tones would be awesome. not sure how they would sell, especially come spring, but i know a lot of people would like to have some "deeper colors"

Do you still need help on gimp lines? This topic is kinda old now.. I personally use the ink tool for clean lines. Needs a bit of practise, but works pretty good. However, easy way to do highlights and shadings within a piece is.. the select tool. Select the areas you want to be colored, fill in the color and use the different layer options to fiddle around with it. Especially if your tablet is not as sensitive the select tool helps a lot to get clean areas, while the pen and eraser might cause quit some pixelation and fuzzy..ness.

edit: Also, if you have a line you really just can't get smooth, no matter what you do.. use a softener tool. You'll see the edges of the line will fade and now you can go ahead, select the area along the line you want to achieve and.. cut it away.

Well the style is verry pretty, but the line art especially noticable with the white version looks very shaky almost sketched and pixelated. Please don't take this the wrong way but it kind of looks like it was done on paper and then transferred over to an art program. In order for it to be accepted on site i would say the lineart has to be fixed and possibly the shading. As for the ci, the cups look a little pixelated as well but the shading looks ok. Also i noticed that on some of the colors the line art is giving the hair a sticker effect which will also get it denied. And it would be helpful to see these in the 125 x 250 submission size because then we can see how they will looked when resized.
