- Awesome. That sounds gorgeous. And that's one of the stupid rules that they have here, unless your costume is immediately recognizable as that character, you can't participate, so like, no fan outfits, or AU designs. Sakura is probably one of the most recognizable characters though, so you could probably get away with that.
lol. Need me some kitties.
Oh weird. I mean, I understand not concept-cosplay and such, but considering it's CLAMP and they end up having about 100 different outfits for most characters... that's tough XD
Okay, I'm disturbing the cat to make dinner and try to talk the girlfriend into fic discussion~ Too many video games, not enough outlining!
- Yeah, it's a really stupid rule. Like why does it matter if I've done a well made costume and have a reference pic? Like I've been designing a steampunk version of Meloetta, and according to their rules I'm not allowed to enter it, it's dumb.
More outlining! go go!
Ehh... I understand that, though. It's a concept costume. It's non-canon. Artbooks and stuff make sense, but when you go off in a whole other direction (steampunk, cyberpunk, etc) that isn't in the series' canon, that can be really hard to judge. It almost stops being "cosplay" and is just "costuming". It sucks, but I can also definitely see where they're coming from from the judging standpoint. How do you judge something that looks incredible but doesn't have an exact reference (so you can't compare it to any source material) versus something that looks like it walked off the pages of the manga? Bad blood would be everywhere...
Yessss, fic writing is happening and dinner is cooking. All is well in the world for the moment.
- Well obviously you would have to provide a reference pic of both the original source material and the new design, but you have to provide reference pictures anyway. Judging the costume and the 'cosplay' are two separate categories (even two separate competitions in some places) Here, it really is just a beauty contest, they don't really care about the workmanship even though they have 'workmanship' judging. And if a single piece of your costume wasn't made by you, you can't enter the workmanship portion of the judging anyway (like if you made killer props and armour, but the character wears jeans and you just wore your walmart jeans, forget about it) It's really dumb, and I don't really want to have anything to do with it because of that. Also I've heard that some of the judges around these parts subscribe to the 'cosplay your body type and race or don't cosplay at all' philosophy which makes me not want to get involved all the more.
I got stuff drawn! so it's a good night here too! Dunno what to draw next.
Honestly most (if not all) of those rules sound pretty standard for most cons anymore. At least in my experience :(
Hey grats on getting some things drawn! That's a step in the right direction, even if it's not a step in the write direction...! shot
- well you have been going to silly cons too. I've never encountered BS rules like that before, not even when I was in Florida. (although florida had the BS rule that you couldn't enter anything not of japanese/asian origin, so no Avatar cosplayers, no MLP cosplayers, no NA VG cosplays)
Oh weird on the non-Japanese thing... I've never heard that one! I've been to cons all over the west coast and each one that I've looked at the rules for have all had about the same standard. YCon had super lax rules for their skit contest the one year I entered it, but I didn't look into the actual costume contest there.
If tonight keeps going like it's going, I might actually be able to post another fic tonight or tomorrow~ Sweeeet.
- Yeah, it was dumb, especially since there was this really REALLY epic mass effect cosplayer there. He was allowed to be part of the 'show' part of the contest, but wasn't allowed to win anything. Skit contests tend to have much more lax rules. They judge the content and the presentation, not the costume itself. Most of the conventions in Canada run both together, you can choose to enter the workmanship portion, and then everyone who goes on stage can also get presentation awards, and now they are starting to do just workmanship judging for the people to shy to go on stage.
My drawing has run into a problem, I have not moved my scanner to new place yet. Only have camera and it is not doing a very good job. I need to scan this lineart before I move on to prove a point.
Huh. Interesting how things are different all over the place, huh? :)
Oh no! Lack of scanner! When do you think that'll be something you have available to you? That sucks that it's holding you back.
- yep, just gotta adapt and play more pokemon and enter less contests
Well, I think my sister's printer has a scanner, so I might be able to do that, and my scanner isn't too far away, I could get it this weekend. But that's still far away.
Ugh the weekend feels so far away... I hope you are able to scan and get things in order for what you want to do! Maybe drawing things will make you feel like writing too :)
- Yeah, I should draw my comic characters more. get better at drawing them, then I'll be more motivated to draw and write the comic! I think what I'll do is start at the beginning of my story and start script forming it, ironing out stuff at the beginning that I didn't like, and maybe get scriviner and put it in there.
Scriviner is definitely taking some getting used to for me. It's interesting? I can see where it might be helpful? But man, there's a learning curve to it that I haven't even gotten on the right track for yet.
That's super cool though, and definitely a good idea to go back and iron out!
Hey guys, I won a regional Sliver Key for Scholastic. (It's a national contest, but only Gold Key winners moves to the next level.)
Funny thing is, that story was actually originally for one of my pets here on Subeta...
Thanks! :3
If you're curious and have time, you're free to try to find it.
(I'll give you a link, if you're feeling lazy.)
- nice, congrats!
- didn't end up attending the nano meet-up this past weekend (ended up watching a marathon of The Librarians instead) Ugh, need to write more, and draw more, and just do more things that aren't facebook and subeta :P
I hear ya, but with Subeta and Tumblr - though my excuse this past weekend was a full-day SCA event on Saturday that left me half-dead on Sunday! And now I have a friend on Tumblr who is (intentionally or unintentionally - it's hard to tell) influencing me to drop my current projects to write another Full of Sad P3 fic. Ugh! I hate being ADD :/ I hope your efforts to actually get things done pay off better than mine are looking right now!
