- Nice. I need nanowrimo to push me to write anything. I probably wouldn't be so big into it if I could motivate myself to write throughout the year :) Hoping that this year will be different!

- Yeah, I hated history because it had too many paper to write! Kudos to you for taking that as a major :P I'm right there with you continuing things that were written before. I have a 200k word monster that needs some serious editing that I worked on for 4 nanos!

I'm sure you can do it :)

You should stick to a schedule. I know sometimes I write and I'm not motivated at allXD

- I did that the first year of nano, I set myself a writing schedule and followed it pretty well, then after nano I was like, I'm going to keep following the same schedule, that worked really well for nano! Nope. Never happened :P Without that nano motivation it just died. But maybe if I make a more gentle schedule, or goal, like write once a week, or write on tuesdays and wednesdays from 9pm to 10pm.

- I didn't mind writing papers, I just always seemed to fail them, so I decided that science and math were more my thing :P Oh gosh, I don't even know anymore! lol. It takes place in a magical world where everyone learns their 'destiny' as sort of a coming of age right of passage, and my main character learns that her destiny... doesn't exist. So the story is basically about her trying to figure out what her destiny is, and along the way she gets kind of gets caught in the middle of the war that's going on. I still like the story, but the characters all kind of ran away on me, and I kind of lost the main point of the story somewhere along the line.

Well the only thing I managed to get done writing wise is work on a few bios for some characters I've created and a short blurb of text on a pet profile. It's a lame start but it's better than nothing right?

I'm sure something will come to you soon. I swear my drive for writing is like the wind... one minute it blows fiercely, knocking over everything in it's path... the next, barely even rattles the leaves. I HAVE been reading more lately which is also a huge part of where I get my inspiration from. Reading other people's works often fuels my own needs to work on stuff... though sometimes I just stare blankly at paper or my computer screen instead.

- It's less inspiration and more motivation I need. I have the time to write, and I have ideas I want to get onto the page, I just... don't. Same goes for drawing, although recently I've had less inspiration for drawing. I think I might open(re-open) an(my old) art shop. If people are paying me to do stuff, I would be more motivated I think :P Even if it was just a bit of sP for doodles and chibis.

PS. Love your avatar. :D

Ooooo that sounds awesome. :0

The general gist of mine feels a lot like a DnD campaign, which I like a lot. Basically, the main character's a young cleric who discovers that not only are the stories about this creature called the Wyvern King she had heard as a child were true, there is a prophesy attached to it that must be prevented from coming to fruition. In attempt to be rid of her, her order sends her to accomplish this, promising her the promotion she was working toward if she succeeded. She recruits a small band of adventurers and away she goes. Kinda cliche, but no cares are currently being given. :P

I started running this as a Pathfinder campaign because it fits well as one, but it never got very far so I'm using the prep I made for that to work on this. Some of the prep involves some Totally Relevant Political Intrigue, which should be fun. :D

Wow, I've been really out of it - I only just realized this thread was here.

I'm still prodding at my NaNo 2014 story - hit 50k but have at least 150k more to write in it. Taking a break from actually writing it right now, though. I've been re-outlining the first novel (NaNo 2013 project) in the series and planning out my first re-write.

My first novel really got away from me during NaNo 2013 - I started on 11/13 with a concept I'd been poking around at since August, and dove in with a minimal outline and only about 4 "big plot points" I wanted to hit. Unfortunately I hadn't worked out what I wanted to do in between those plot points, so the whole thing is just a big, gnarly mess right now. It's about 20k of usable stuff and 30k of fertilizer.

On the plus side, writing it all really was fertilizer and I've learned a huge amount about my world and my characters (and my plot!) since writing it all out.

Today, though, I'm taking a break even from book 1 - a friend reblogged quite possibly the best AU prompt I've ever seen over on Tumblr and I'm compelled to write something based on that. So I am!

I'm glad to see others around who are trying to motivate through the year :) Here's hoping!!

Then clearly I'm on the right track. :P

Indeed. And it's entirely relevant because it seems the antagonist may have its claws in all the wrong people (for the protag, at least.) My players liked it, so I'm def keeping it no matter where the story goes.

Aww ^^ Thanks for thinking of me!

It's someone's text post: "my favorite college experience is when i had a 7am class and the kid next to me literally poured a monster energy drink into his coffee said “i’m going to die” and drank the whole thing" and someone tagged below it with "pick an otp imagine them meeting like this"

And uh... I did. And I'm running with it like crazy. (Who doesn't love a good college AU anyway right? lol)

It's about a young civil rights activist who wants to be a muckraking journalist in the 1920's. :3

I'd gladly send you a sneak-peek if you are curious. :3

I'm at work so I can't exactly read anything longer than a forum post at the moment, but later! I know very little about the 1920's. (I tend to err on the side of steampunk in most of my original stuff, so I'm semi-versed in Victorian times, but once you hit the turn of the century my history-knowledge level drops like a rock XD) That's really interesting! Is it like a mystery or something?

- damn, that is a glorious prompt! I'm struggling to think of a character who is both smart enough to know that enough caffeine really could put you into cardiac arrest and also stupid enough to actually still do it. :P

Ahaha, I'm running with my Suikoden AU world that I started writing a little while ago. I can think of the absolute perfect person to do it (and the perfect person to react to it!)

But it's a super rad prompt just in that "omg you can't be serious right now" sort of way XD There are so many good AU prompts out there.

Hey guys, I could use a bit of help. The story I've recently started has a female lead, but she's the sidekick of a male hero. The hero's name was originally going to be Scott, but last night he told me that in his world, he's called "The Spartan" -- but now I'm unconvinced Scott would be a good first name for him. HELP? x.x

[edit] We almost compromised on Loukas (Luke), but then he reminded me that the female lead's name is Leah and I facepalmed.
