I think the world of the battling community and count battlers among my friends. I think the people here are friendly and helpful and I do appreciate the respectful debate. Sharing ideas and opinions is good.

But this debate about the cap makes me feel like a beggar watching millionaires argue over bank interest.

More like arguing over not being able to pay as many taxes as we want and that's where the fine irony is

that's the one point i personally don't have a counterargument for. if the cap is in fact helping to bring (and retain) new people in the battling community, then i suppose there's merit in that.

as for the idea of a phantom cap discouraging new battlers because they'll never catch up - someone starting today is always gonna be at a disadvantage vs someone who started five years ago. I can't see it being more of a problem than it already is (ie not much of one).. especially when you consider that the ONLY advantage to training beyond the PC would be personal satisfaction. No one will miss out if they don't want to train til their fingers fall off. /shrug I also don't think this whole cap thing can be easily dismissed with a 'o well, heaps of other stuff to do, go do that for a while!' I come here to train and to battle. That's what I'm in to. If I wanted to do other stuff, I'd already be doing it? I mean, would you cap the wardrobe, and then tell wearable collectors to suck it up and go do other stuff instead? maybe not the greatest comparison, but jeez. Having your favourite aspect of the site restricted is frustrating.

Welp I can't save... least not boosters. Used my little hoard on my 3 main battlers. Will keep the EXP hoarded at least just cannot seem to save anything else. Oh well, got some decent gains and only 1 booster was a dud, so yeah!

Okay.. so you really don't even know what this phantom cap you're so against is. I'd still be doing higher damage. Phantom cap caps the opponents, not pets. And that's where most of the complaints came from. Top challengers being aimed just to the top 20, and goalposts always moved, not from top pets having nothing challenging to fight.

Anything about keeping the cap, but raising it just a little bit? I think we were looking for at least that if we are going to have a hard cap.

The main issue is that while you are seeing a lot new battlers, you are also seeing a lot of older battlers or battlers with capped pets paying less and less attention, or just not giving a shit anymore.

In a sense, there's just slow accumulation. New battlers come in, old battlers leave.

Moreso, there arent that many "new" battlers per se. I mean look at the BC thread. There arent many new faces. Just a lot of people post threads saying "HOW DO I BEAT X OPPONENT" "WHAT IS THE BEST WEAPONS".

I find it a sign that all this was brought up today. I took a 2+ year complete break from the site. After being back only 2 months I am already thinking it might be time for another break.

Yes, there is other things to do here, and we have been told....Hey get involved in something else...PFFTT, some of us are here for the battling part. It is what we enjoy, weather it be battling or just being able to train our pet.

Just my opinion here, but I am guessing battling it the most expensive thing to get into on the site. I would think that would keep a lot of real money coming into the site, either by battlers buying new opponents (if or when they come out) and csc to sell to support their habit. Things that make you go hmmmmm

which is exactly the problem with having a battling "end game." of course there will be a few people who hit the finish line and decide to stick around and focus on other aspects of the site, but what about those whose main draw is battling? is it just game over then? seems to be the case for at least a few folks i could name.

all of this without taking into account that the existance of the cap alone isn't the only factor in bringing new members into the battling community. there was a very big push in 2014 to lower the barriers of entry, so to speak. while i can't argue that newer battlers dont benefit from the ability to play catchup (hell, that's exactly what i did), i also don't necessarily think that instituting a PC would completely negate the more beginner-friendly BC.

idk at the end of the day, i'm just still very firmly pro-phantom cap over here.

And as for all this debate for/against the stat cap, personally I'm a fan of the stat cap, but my reason for it is dumb and selfish :P The stat cap just makes me feel like I am able to "catch up" to the people will stronger pets :P It doesn't really matter to me either way what the decision is, I enjoy all aspects of subeta; wardrobe, cults, pet/character creation, forum chatting. I won't stop coming here and being involved if the cap never changes and Endalin (or all my other pets for that matter) beat all things. To lyn's point though, the only reason I spend CSC is to not 'fall behind' as a battler, unlocking the challengers, getting books for intel. I occasionally buy wearables, but not super often, I can get by without them.

I guess maybe Keith knows more than I do about the cap. I definitely think 5 wins on Baenwurath can be done without O-Staff (though it can take numerous attempts). I got lucky this fight though most likely. I used the following:

Congrats I did my 5 wins with my own weapons and without having to borrow an O-staff. Shinwas lightning helped a bit, and the Cronus blade to some extent. It's a little gem that's useful in niche situations, if you can catch up on impossible challengers speed without taking on way too much damage in the process.

I believe the cap is making people restless waiting for something to do with their capped pets. Maybe they can raise it a little as mentioned before while figuring out what to do with the endgame.

I am all for the cap where it is or raising it a bit to like 25K. The reason for where it is, it will make me feel like I have made it as a battler. I capped my pet, I did it! To me it will make me feel very accomplished. That is why I like it where it is. I of course see the side of those that have capped pets too. A small raise in the cap I see no reason can't be done. The phantom case, I don't understand completely, but I am not against that either. Let people train their pets as much as they like too. They spend more sP (gets it out of the market if new weapons are introduced in the MC) and more $$ is spent if weapons and CS challengers are added to the cash shop.

Where are our CS challengers? are we not having any this year, or is something else going to happen? Curious minds would love to know. :)
