It's super relaxing! They swim at the glass when I approach since fish have a memory of over three months (not three seconds) and they know who I am. That being said... The fish in the 3ft tank all hide when I come up because mum usually feeds them and I just clean the tank! Funny stuff, they all really show their personality though.
It was SO hard to pick a fish. My favourite fish are actually mpimbwe frontosa (red tailed catfish are a close second), but I didn't think they would lend themselves to CWs all that well. It's still my dream to get a colony of them, though!
Ooh I don't think I've ever heard of mpimbwe frontosa before (or seen them). Since I don't know many fish species I'm going to go with tancho koi as my favorite. :3
Koi are absolutely beautiful! I'd love to breed them one day, but I only know IBC (international betta congress) breeding standards. I don't know if I could keep enough info in my head for koi, too! Though, I do want to learn Flowerhorn standards for when I move and get my double garage to breed fish in * o *
That actually sounds nice, I stumbled upon a documentary that had fish breeding in it, and it seemed like a nice job. So good luck on making it a reality~! ^u^
It would just be a hobby for me, honestly. I love breeding African cichlids specifically, because they are mouthbrooders, which means after they lay eggs the male and female spin around in circles and the female picks them up in her mouth! You actually see these female fish with huge, full mouths and you can pull them out and 'strip' them (opening their mouth with a q-tip and gently letting the fry swim out into a bowl) so that you can keep all the babies and not have them get eaten!
Ahh, sorry, I'm a huge dork. Breeding bettas is a goal of mine, but impossible in the state I live in due to the fact you need to have two different licenses to sell fish that you breed yourself. On mainland Australia, you can sell fish regardless.
Haha omg yes probably not let them get eaten, I just imagined them dancing around and then when you mentioned them eating the babies, the mood just changed so quickly. Hmm still, hopefully you'll get to do that one day~! :)
My Entry
Name of the item would be: Pearlescent Scaled Dress.
Description: No fish were harmed in the making of this dress.
Type of fish: Pearl Cichlid.
Type of item: (strap-less) dress
Color palette: silvery blue sheer color for the base of the dress (does that make sense? lol - not sure what hex code you would need) and bright seafoam green for the scales/beading of the dress.
In my head I see the dress with a blue (silvery blue hue) and sheer base with the bright seafoam green scales following the same pattern of the dress. The dress would also have a slit in the center that would start just above the knee, flare out softly around the legs (as if wind-blown or caught in a small breeze) and pool around the feet of the avatar so the legs and feet are clearly visible. There is some beading in the dress that is less evident in the picture that could be a shade lighter than the more prominent beading of the dress.
I would like the arms and hands visible over the dress, and the windblown aspect could look like this (as if the avatar's hands are holding the fabric back.):
The Ci: The tail of a Pearl Cichlid with a piece of fabric rippling at the end of it...as if the fish were being transformed into the dress. (That's all I can think of right now)
Haha, the female's a good mother! Until the fry are free swimming, then they have to run away and hide. I haven't stripped any fry since big mama passed, actually. :( Yes! I hope so, I'm planning on moving eventually.
Good luck with that dream and good luck with the contest as well~! :3
Awesome idea for an event! Here is my tropical fish entry :)

but without lampart spots. In its place would be small fan-like, ethereal fabrics, like fish's fan. They would cover the legs, though, I am huge fan of longer dresses.
Aaa I love this contest - Can't wait to see the winning CWs at the end :D
Here comes my entry:
Fishy Fish
Flowing Cape Of The Patchwing You may go wherever you want to.
This is an Atlantic Patchwing :)
This is the homepage I found with more pictures of flying fishes.
Type of the item is a cloak or a jacket that lies on the shoulders. It has wings like the fish I chose. It might also be SHEER, but not neccessary.

Colour palette:
These colours with a golden shimmer

CI idea: The Patchwing fish with the cape on it's back instead of the real wings. (from top or side view)
I love this contest idea c:

Flowing Betta Fabric
Chiffon Fish Tail Fabric
Flowing Chiffon Fishtail
will add a description idea as soon as I think of one!
2: pretty fish!
3: dress
So my idea is two dresses combined:
this dress - for the neckline, detail and flowy chiffon over chest train fabric (not sure what to call it ;; but basically everything apart from what's listed below). this dress - for length (above the knee) and skirt hem/style reference.
4: colour palette
I actually have a couple of ideas for colours:
This is my favourite seeing as it's similar to the colours of the fish (and it's such a pretty palette!). source

I also really like this one source:
The main part of the dress could be the lightest pink in the palette and the last/darkest shade could be for the over chest chiffon train part. The colours in between could be for the details and other parts.

There's also a couple of other palettes that I thought would be quite nice for the dress. A light ice blue | A nice lavender
CI
The betta fish with the chiffon train fabric as it's tail (the fabric is very flowy and elegant, just like the betta tail!).
It has a happy expression and a little heart somewhere in the image near the head (a bit like these ).
As for colours, the fish tail and fins are the same colour as the chiffon train from the dress. The body can be the same colour as the main part of the dress.
The body/tail is curved, like in these pictures:
wow, there have been some great ideas posted so far. I'd love to see what comes out of this event.
I hope to see some of them released .. they are fantastic _
Did you read the updated first post? We aren't allowed to use octopi or anything not a fish. Because I wanted to use an octopus and asked.
:/
Cute idea, though (save it for the later round)
arts by the amazing
Aw damn, I did not, thank you for the heads up!
fish
Trigger-Happy Hawk: Trigger? Oh oh, I get it, the reef trigger right? Also way shorter than Humuhumunukunukuapau'a.
The Humuhumunukunukuapau'a (state fish of Hawaii) also known as the Reef Trigger:

A cross between a mowhawk and 50's "greaser" curl - where the front part has a bit of a curl, but it flows into a short mowhawk with very short sides.
Color Palette - (all colors taken off the fish image itself):
Base:
hex: 02082C
Striping/Highlights/Spots of Color (use as many or few as you like, but I was thinking this could be a very colorful hair):
hex: dcfc81
hex: 83e0ff
hex: f1db38
hex: e3dedb
hex: ac0904
hex: 05a19e
guess I will toss in an idea for Fishy Contest
Name/description: Fighting Fish Collar
Image of the fish:
[spoiler=images]

Type of item: neck collar

Colour palette: would work in any color.
CI idea: the fish with its gills flared.
I see a lot of (very nice) Betta entries, so I'm going to go with the other fish I hope to have in my tank soon: the Pygmy Corycat!
Yay entry
Name: Corycat Corycut
Description: "Cool enough to school" (because they're schooling fish, geddit oh god I need to stop trying to be clever)
Item type: wig
CI: a tank/bowl with fish in it behind/nearby strands of hair, maybe?

I was thinking a short, "punk" hairstyle, similar to this one, that follows the color scheme of the fish: â–º the base would be a metallic grey or gunmetal â–º there would be two streaks in the middle, side-by-side; one black, one white/silvery/iridescent
