I honestly think PETA is insane. They tried to tell everyone that fish should be called sea kittens, which I couldn't stand. I don't like when people try to force other people into any belief system, including vegetarianism. I've been a vegetarian for almost two years, but I never try to force other people to give up meat. I always try to tell people to enjoy meat. I figure if they're going to kill and animal to eat it, I have no right to make the experience unpleasant for them.

PETA makes me maaaaaaaaaad. :C

I'm not a vegetarian. But there are some meats that I don't eat because of the cruelty involved. (like veal).

I honestly hardly eat any meat at all, so I guess I don't think about it much.

But that whole 'high and mighty thing' is such annoying bullshit. Those people have to get over themselves and learn that what you eat doesn't make you a bad person.

(unless you eat people omg). :(

oh god, i totally agree. my boyfriend's best friend was EXACTLY like that. my boyfriend at the time was vegetarian but since he's built really skinny, his doctor told him he should at least start eating fish for protein or something like that. when he started eating fish his friend totally freaked the fuck out.

something about how fish are raised inhumanely or are killed wrong or something and it's like... who cares. it's not like i'm torturing the hell out of the fish for the fun of it... i'm not even the one who kills it anyway.

the way i see it, if you don't buy the package of chicken at the store, someone else will. if you don't buy the fur coat, that won't stop someone else from buying it. i respect vegetarians and their choices, but the preachy ones i really can't stand. it's good people stand up for what they believe in but i don't get the point of trying to convince others to be vegetarian.

I'm all for animals rights! I hate animals cruelty. But, I like my meat. I just don't like how the kill them. If there were a better way to get meat without the cruelty, I'd totally do it. :

Strength in numbers. Use your brain. If say, ten people who went to that particular grocery store stopped eating chicken, demand would drop. Granted, it would be small and production would likely just be a decimal percentage smaller. But there's more than one grocery store, more than ten vegetarians. The number of vegetarians is growing, and with that the processing of chicken is slowing down. Supply and demand. Demand goes down, supply will come down. Simple.

I am not a vegetarian, but I will no longer eat cow because of recent personal issues. I've watched all the PeTA videos, and none of them really affected my meat eating because I believe they're basket cases. PeTA has good intentions, and amazing publicity and all...they just should go about it in a slightly less 'vicious' way. :/

The ones that do it purely for the animals, and stick to it, and won't shove it down peoples throats, I admire them. They're rare and I think they're just awesome. (: If you're a vegetarian or vegan like that, know that you're awesome. XD

Bah, I had a crazy vegetarian friend in my class this year. |C At least, she 'claimed' to be vegetarian and preached the life, but admitted to eating sushi because she loved the taste of fish and to eating steak whenever she went home with her family because her dad wanted her to. I just sat there in the lounge room and stared at her. Last I checked, vegetarians didn't eat cows.

-sighs- And there was this one guy who was preaching the "truth" about smoking and cancer. It was ridiculous. According to him, the only thing to give you cancer is meat. Not the fossil fluids we burn, not cigarettes, not whatever the fuck else causes it now adays, but just meat. Red meat, White meat, Fish meat, Free range, ect. Everything else you know is a lie.

PETA sucks. We call it People Embarrassing the Tidewater Area because apparently thats where their headquarters are. -shrug- I know some vegetarian tried to take on TheAmazingAtheist from Youtube. TAA said that every time this guy uploads a new video, hes going to go out and buy a hamburger or meat of some sort and just throw it away. He even got his viewers to do it too! That was some crazy stuff..But the vegetarian guy had it coming. His video towards TAA was rude and his confidence level was sky-high..He needed to be brought down somehow

I've never personally run into any vegetarians like that (thank god, I might have to lose my relatively passive nature. D: ) The vegetarian friends I have are thankfully very mild about it. I've only ever seen them are around the internet... I mean, if you don't... preach to me, I won't preach to you. (Not that i ever have anything to preach about... :C )

And, urgh, PETA enrages me...

Animal cruelty isn't the same thing as eating meat. Which is kind of the point of this thread.

Omg I used to be friends with a girl who was a vegan and hates ANYTHING to do with animal products. Like milk and eggs. Apparently milking a cow is "wrong" and "hurts the cow". Same with chickens laying eggs. xD
We used to eat meat in front of her purposely and stare at her the whole time.

don't cows like getting milk? i always thought they recieved some sort of sexual pleasure out of it. :( and don't chickens lay eggs on their own? i ain't no farmer but lol.

aww that's mean to do, but sometimes i do that to my best friend. i'll be eating a steak and then start licking it and moaning and stuff YOU KNOW TRYING TO BE SEXY OKAY to try and trick him into eating meat. but he hates meat because he never had it growing up so he never got used to the taste :I

Uh... no. Just because you crave meat doesn't mean others do too. I'm not a vegetarian, but my aunt is, and I know one of the reasons is because when eating meat, the thought that she's eating an animal just makes her feel sick. Would you want something that makes you sick? No, didn't think so.

Not all people crave/couldn't live without the same things. Me, I'm personally not very fond of meat except for breakfast sausages and bacon. xD On the other hand---bread and fruit. I love it. But I'm currently fighting a yeast overgrowth and can have neither. :( And I'm always craving both. Dx

Sooo... yeah. xD

PETA is nothing but a mere joke now. I don't even take them seriously. They're in it for the publicity.

As far as pushy vegetarians go, I can't stand them. It's one thing if an omnivore asks about their lifestyle and the vegetarian gives them some information on it from a reliable source (in other words, not from PETA), but it's another to have propaganda shoved down your throat by some overzealous person trying to convert someone's way of thinking. Of course, it goes both ways. I don't like having to constantly stand up for my morals because the same people feel the need to repeatedly push their beliefs onto me when I've stated again and again that I prefer to live a meat-free life. I've been a vegetarian for about three years now, a vegan for more than a year. I gave up being a vegan just recently due to the health consequences of not eating properly. I get this thrown in my face too, because some people think that vegetarianism as a whole is completely unhealthy, which is untrue if done right. In other words, to each his own. If you don't like the way someone lives their life, deal with it. They're not going to change because you feel the need to be pushy.

I'm a vegetarian, and although I don't push my beliefs onto others I hardly see what the issue is. People are bombarded daily with questions to their morals and ethics. You get it with the poverty and famine in the third world, you get it with various charities, and issues closer to home. Just deal with it, and if you don't want to improve your morality for whichever reason then don't - ignore it. o.o

I've been vegetarian for three years and, while I'm not really surprised that people actually try and 'force' people to become vegetarian, I don't really how they can do that because I know I'd be really annoyed if someone tried to force me to eat meat... it's really no different. I'm all for personal choice and I'm guessing for a lot of people being vegetarian is not their thing. I know all of my friends like meat too much and I'm completely fine with that.

I really hate it when my family thinks it's funny to try and throw meat at me though... :/ They don't really understand that I don't enjoy eating meat shrugs

That's the most ignorance I've seen all day - it's laughable. Get over yourself and pick up some brain cells along the way, kthanks. x)

I honestly don't want meat. I've never had it. I have no inclination whatsoever to even try it. I even have some sort of phobia of it, I hate being anywhere near it.

And FYI - vegetarians are eating like humans, emphasised by the fact that humans eat the diet. o.o ...

...if I may give some advice - perhaps you should try behaving like a human. :)

I have friends who are vegetarian, and friends who are carnivorous (doesn't eat vegies). :D What I am actually thankful for is none of them get into the preaching mode of who has a better diet whatsoever. We all discuss the benefits of practicing eating both meat and veggies and no one goes into an all rage mode. :)

Bottom line of it is that if those "preachers" and some PETA ppl. plans to convert others to become a vegetarian, a lot will be turned off because it's like shoving it to people's throats. At least they should know how to respect each other's taste.

P.S. I find PETA to be ridiculous really... it's like they want the spotlight and publicity now than before.
