I hope I like it too. Right now I'm reading a book called Road to Roswell, about a bunch of people at an "alien abduction" convention actually abducted by an alien (who seems kind of friendly, if very insistent about keeping the abducted people going in the direction indicated) and it's very silly and cute.
thank you! inspired I guess so ❤
Hello! I've always wanted to join in on one of these, but I never know how to really slip myself into the convo. 😅
That book you mentioned sounds fun! Will be a great addition to my ever-growing list of books to read that grows far faster than "books I have finished reading". I recently ordered Cats Cradle (the book). Was kind of lead in its direction while searching up about other things on google and it's such a well-received book according to reviews. Apparently its big on the absurdist humor and I'm all for that.

I read a bunch of Vonnegut 25-30 years ago and I think Cats Cradle was one of them (if that's the book you mean) and it was absurdist humor, but rather dark, and a bit dated now, probably, it was even then I think (written in 1963). I hope you will enjoy it! Road to Roswell (author: Connie Willis) is by an older writer but a newish book. It's very much in the line of her other lighter work (she has written some dark absurdist humor too, as well as some serious dramatic fiction, same genre as Vonnegut, though her style is very different from Vonnegut's style). It's a great choice, I think!
Oh, I'm well aware its dark and I'm a fan of a lot of old books. Stuff that is particularly thought provoking is also something I like in books. Some occasions it gets annoying to read reviews of certain books though because sometimes people's analyses can be a tad shallow, or they get into the weeds of details that aren't actually important to the core message the book is attempting to get across. Although I feel like this can be said for lots and lots of media, especially now. I was digging generally into stuff regarding existential depression as it's something my SO is dealing with, and I've dealt with as well. Trying to find some perspective shifting stuff especially since he is being a bookworm lately.

book reviewing isn't easy, and doing it from an idiosyncratic viewpoint can be a workable approach, but it's not one every reviewer does well, that's for sure. I hope you can find some reviewers you click with who review books in a style that works better for you!
I guess one of my mistakes is reading literally any review on sites like reddit lol. Or any other random website or within the comments of the reviews on a seller site. Often i find some decent analyses from people on youtube whe dedicate themselves to book reviewing in general though. But at the same time its interesting to see what a more average person is seeing. Seeing how the material is/can be misinterpreted. I mean some absolutely great books from the past were very very deeply misunderstood by some as often as they were perfectly well understood by others in their time.

well it sounds like you're reading low quality reviews (if sincere) & sometimes that's how those are, I guess.
Check out some of these for a possibly higher quality sort of review (maybe you'll like them? I do):
https://jamesdavisnicoll.com/reviews https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/reviews-by-grade/
and some online magazines with lots of reviews: https://reactormag.com/articles/books/ http://strangehorizons.com/non-fiction/reviews/ https://locusmag.com/category/reviews/page/113/
Oh, I've never been a magazine reader, but I'll certainly take a look! As much as I do read, I've never really been deep into like... Reading culture? I suppose you would call it that. Don't do book clubs or any of that stuff even when in school. At most I take a cursory look at reviews and ratings on Goodreads or whatever is most common and just go for it if it looks interesting. Theres a few books I'm regretting buying, but I also haven't finished those so maybe it's best to hold my opinion until the end. I may end up donating them if there's no chance I'm going to reread them though. The only exception being the one book in the hitchhiker's series I found dull as dirt since it's a series and all :') Sorry when the focus was 100% Arthur just living his life for a while it just dragged. The parts about the man that was constantly followed by rain was amusing though and it picked up more at the end at least.
I think I'd stop slacking on reading if I wasn't such a slow reader. Not really a fixable issue because its due to ADHD gifting me with chaos brain. Can't always get myself engrossed enough to do decent reading and every little sound or itch will pull me away from the book. Or I physically lose my place on the line and reread lines or forget what I read occasionally and HAVE TO reread it. Fun stuff. Fun to feel like a child at 30 🫠

- I love funny books so that one is def going on my (completely uncrollable) book list. :D
- Hi! Welcome! Truffula is a good source for books. She's never steered me wrong, so far. Your book also sounds promising, so, I'm adding it to my ever growing (and now even more uncontrolable) reading list. I love hearing about new books. :D
- How are you doing, my friend? ❤
Maybe just for variety, or maybe you'll discover you like a certain reviewer's taste more than the average goodreads, you never know! There are a lot of really good books you will never notice if you only look at the 'most popular' ones. A lot of the popular ones are really bad in comparison, alas.
Thanks for the compliment, glad I haven't yet steered you wrong, hope never! (but if I do once it was an accident I swear) the book is still cracking me up a lot, so silly, but in a kind of smart way, you know? that's what I like.
well I guess you were right about me being inspired cause I made another one today (3 in the queue before it shows up though)
Welcome welcome!! What is it about subeta that you like the most? For me it's my HA and my friends that keep me playing here. And also, now that I finally have a decent battle pet battle is fun too.
Hey friend!💜 How's life treating you? Two more weeks until the dreaded assessment. This weekend I'm cleaning bathrooms and then the following weekend mopping all of the floors. So fun! Not! 😘
You're on a roll and your current one is great too! I think once it's Fall I'll feel more HA inspiration as will be something different.
- You are my main "go-to" gal for books. Even if you do steer me wrong I will know that it's because we don't like exactly the same things, which is understandable. ;)
you've sent me to a bunch of good books too, so I'm glad I was able to do that for you!
thank you. it's almost fall for sure & new season will bring new inspiration maybe - here's hoping!
Cats Cradle feels weird in a way that is difficult to describe and I'm right in the first few chapters. It feels so stream of conciousnessy. And also, it simultaneously is and isn't what I expected at the start. It has an energy that feels similar to Douglass Adams though which I like. I was only able to describe my mixed feelings as "imagine going to a show and you're expecting to see a horse in a clown costume but then the horse shows up and it's a comically small horse in a clown costume." Your expectations are being met but you're puzzled at the same time. I wasn't expecting such an in-your-face poke at religion from the jump, but I did expect it as well as the general tone and unseriousness of it all. Tbh so far this has me locked in in a "Where is he going with this?" sort of way.

You're so welcome! I love Fall so I know I'll find inspiration! 🎃
I'm so interested in the rest of your reaction to the story, thank you for sharing that!
I think fall already inspired one for me even though it hasn't arrived yet lol
Fall is the greatest season! Or tied with Spring. Lol Beautiful HA!!!!
I think I agree with you about best seasons! also, you complimented that HA so I had to change it 🤣
You guys keep talking about fall so much I couldn't resist sliding my HA into fall territory. It's my favorite season ever, but it doesn't quite feel like fall yet over here in South NJ. Keeps getting a touch too warm during the day but it's getting cooler every day! Not looking forward to winter darkness though. Dark when I get to work, dark when I leave...
