👀 get ready, battlers—i’m cooking up something wild rn, and you’re gonna help me break it (in the best way possible). this is your unofficially official first look at a brand-new feature i’ve been building for funsies: the Subeta TCG.

it’s big. it’s bold. and it’s entirely experimental—like, it may never go live, but it’ll help lay the groundwork for a much cooler battle system later. either way, your feedback here? crucial.

so what is it? think deckbuilding + strategy + all the chaos of the battle system you love but in card form. 💖

here’s the deal: • deck size: 30 cards. max of 10 cards in your hand at once. • resources: you gain mana each turn (up to 10 total) to play cards. • phases: start-of-turn effects, play cards in any order, then a wild resolution phase where your minions go off and attack randomly. traps trigger. chaos ensues. • win: crush your opponent’s hp to 0. gg.

the guardians (aka your big playmakers):

the first batch of cards is focused on three guardians:

1️⃣ sebastian phoenix, chancellor: loves hoarding mana to drop game-changing plays. (keyword: card_draw) 2️⃣ maleia, dark goddess: trap queen 👑. plays sneaky, reactive, and punishes aggression. (keyword: trap) 3️⃣ esmeralda, fashion icon: swarms the board with minions and heals them up like a boss. (keyword: healing)

what’s unique about this? • keywords: these define how cards interact with the game—right now we’re keeping it simple, but the system is modular, so we can add fun stuff like poison, transfer effects, etc., down the line. • modularity: the goal is to keep the meta fresh by introducing new batches of cards with different mechanics and interactions over time.

FAQs i see you asking already:

what about existing tcg cards on-site? don’t worry—they’ll have a role in this too. over time, you’ll be able to convert them into playable cards, starting with simpler ones before rolling out bigger effects. think of this as phase one.

art? for now, nope. but if this turns into a real feature, we’ll explore options: repurposing old art, commissioning community designs, or focusing on drawing just the guardians and rare cards. no ai art, period.

this is super early and super raw, so don’t get too attached to any details yet. the plan is to test, iterate, and see if it feels fun before deciding if it sticks around.

I came on here to ask what happened to Cursed Effigy being released as an event challenger, he was a fireside challenger, but events kind of run into each other these days so I'm a bit confused.

Funny I'm getting Genius Invocation TCG from Genshin. Not a bad thing as it felt like a take on the fighting only you use cards and dice. Would be interesting to see more on the matter, to judge how I feel.

I'm not seeing the connection between a tcg and battling either, tbh. Plus, we already have Mazes and Mahars, so is this just going to replace it?

Either way, this isn't something that appeals to me at all. Gonna have to pass on it, sorry.

Looks interesting...but im hoping its more of a mazes and mahars replacement versus the new direction of battling on kumos. Not sure its my thing either 😭

I did play around with Mazes and Mahars before but since if never worked properly I quickly lost interest. TCGs have never been my thing so this likely won't be either, though I am open to trying it. I'm not against this existing but I hope to god it won't be the BC replacement.

I have a real disinterest for card games so I also hope that this kind of thing isn’t going to replace battling. I don’t want all the time/money put into battling to have been for nothing if it’s going to turn into something that’s personally unplayable.

Lol I hope he doesn't get discouraged by the sheer number of people not interested. I agree I dont want to see a replacement for battling either.

Hopefully there will be SOME folks interested in the new idea. I'd hate to see an idea go to waste. (I should not talk... plz ignore the pile of projects rotting here by me....)
