Week 8 already, woo!

I'm kind of ashamed to admit I only feed my battling pets: with a full-time job and other obligations I just can't feed all 39 every single day. I mean, I could just put everyone in the resort, but it made me tired just to think about coming home to 39 notifications once a month XD

A few of my pets are trained and we do battle some. I'm no expert by any means but I've been around long enough to kind of know what I'm doing, lol. Mostly it's for their character, but also I do like getting unique loot drops from the challengers as well as bragging rights, kind of. I like being able to defeat tough opponents on a budget as well as using weapons that fit the pet's character. (For example, my main battler Sungod is based on a robot from space, so most of his weapons deal fire and light, or are robot- themed). I don't actually recommend battling this way to anyone else, listen to actual battling experts XD

I adopted Foods specifically to have a TC for the best looking subeta foods, so of course I had to make him the gourmand XD Wakko, who's infamous for eating anything and everything, is kind of the backup gourmand. I started off reading all books to Sakua, but as I got further into battling and jobs, I read to more pets, and now I think Erelin or Glaielle has read the most.

If I have a character for them, I try to get a job for pets that fits their character. Otherwise that's about it.

When it comes to fullness and happiness, do you worry about that or not pay much attention? Feed and play individually, or is the resort a life saver?

I tend not to worry about keeping everyone's fullness up, no. Their happiness is taken care of by just having a minion, but I only feed my gourmand typically, or the others Ikumoradeekanox fruits (I have a goal of feeding all my pets every fruit from the tree, for no reason other that it seems like a fun goal).

Do you participate in training and battling? If so, what do you enjoy about it?

I train, but I don't really battle much unless I'm trying to get the item rewards. It's a bit grindy for me, and due to the stat increase as you beat the opponent more, it's hard for me to understand whether I'm going into a battle able to beat my opponent or not, since the stat change doesn't display before you battle them. Regarding training, though, I usually like my pets having jobs that fit their characters (except for Mocha who I just want to have the best job possible), so I need to train them to those levels. But I continue training them afterwards, too, just in case I want to change their job in the future and it requires extra strength/levels.

Do you have designated pets for things like gourmand and reading books to? Is it based on if that fits their character, for achievements, or something else?

Mocha! Not based on anything regarding her character, she's just special to me. It's for achievement purposes, but also just to give her everything I can.

I've got a gourmand who is also my battler, and then another pet who reads all the books - I kind of regret assigning the book-reading to a different pet, since it would be helpful also in battling, but eh what can you do.

What am I missing? Are there other things you do on the site with your pets? I used to do jobs but ... daily things are a struggle for me, and most of the time the reward seems to be just pocket change, so I dropped it. Nowadays I only really quest if even that, and that isn't really pet-specific.

I completely forgot about jobs LOL. All my pets have them (I think), but I rarely if at all bother because collecting their pay one pet at a time is too time consuming for the amount they get. I think it's so cool when people match jobs to their pet's story, it never even crosses my mind to do that! I would love if they had a "collect all" button, even if it's a GA perk like putting everyone in the resort in one click is. I would be much more interactive with the job options if that was the case.

Now that I think of it, since jobs require certain stats making jobs easier to use could motivate folks to be more interested in working on specific stats for their pets as well! I was thinking about how to make it good for the economy since it's just sp getting handed out (which is why they went away from bank interest) and since it costs to increase stats this could be the balancer economically! Toss in some achievements along with the pay increase OR some other kind of "bonus" the pet gets with their promotion (ex: random stat or TC increase) and I think more people would get into the job thing! I know I would!

I haven't gotten into battling much, but would like to do more of it since it's another part of the site that I'm not interacting with much! I remember way back in the day I was trying to train everyone to a certain even stat level but that went away quickly, probably when I kept getting more pets XD. I have Kamots who I was training for a while, and I adopted a T5 (just realized she was T5 LOL, I adopted her for her name) so I do have some options to dabble again. I know nothing about it but I know a few folks have great guides that make it helpful for new folks to dip their toes. I think has some amazing guides if I'm remembering correctly! I probably need to focus on my pets character / profile development first lolz.

I didn't realize a minion kept their happiness up! I thought it had to drop for them to be able to play with toys. I pop everyone in the resort because it bothers me to know my little pixel babies are hungry or unhappy but there's no way I'm doing all that one item at a time hahaha. The resort is a life saver! The only downside is not being able to feed them and item / play with an item if their hunger / happiness is full. Although now that I think of it, maybe the happiness part doesn't impact toys and I've been skipping quests for no reason.

There are so many pretty food items, I keep having a character in the back of my head so I can make a TC full of them, but I haven't made that happen yet. Other ideas just get bumped up. Maybe if I find the right name I can make it happen soon. But this group has helped me expand how I use TCs and I think there are lots of food items that could fit into TCs for current pets. :D

This makes my heart happy for some reason, I love that you have a pet who is so special to you! I once focused on Kamots for reading books to, and I think if I do get back into some of these extra things he would be the one because he's my special guy.

Honestly the pets are why I do quests pretty much daily. I'm not an artist and can rarely if ever spend IRL money here, so saving up helps me to be able to afford art sometimes. Plus pet slots, TC items, etc. There's a lot to do here, but I think it's a real pet site for me in the sense that the pets are the core of my being here, and the cause of most everything else I do here (with exception).

Aran, who is tier 7, and she does a good chunk of damage in the battle coliseum, but I want her to be even more powerful. I'm really just in it for the loot - there's SO much good loot out there that I need for treasure chests.

Yeah uhhhhh this is where I talk about Aran again. Because she's my favorite OC, she became the gourmand/reading/battling/everything pet. Can't say I've been particularly good at keeping up with the gourmand achievement tiers with her, though. Her job actually is fairly fitting - she works for the Subeta Tribunal as a writer, which is something she'd definitely do in-universe.

It would be cool to make promotions a bit more exciting. Random stat boosts are already a thing when collecting your daily income for a pet, though! It isn't consistent, I'm not sure what the chance is, and it feels like it's mostly just level boosts anyway, but I think that was an attempt at making you want to collect your pets' income. Unfortunately, it is still a pain, so I rarely do it myself.

I forget if I mentioned it in a prior reply, but Mocha was my very first pet when joining the site, so she'll always have that special place in my heart. (Maybe one day I'll even finish her profile... Lol.) Random lore dump: Her name was Mocha- with a dash until the name system stopped being unique, but she's named that in the first place despite having been black/purple (and not brown) for most of her life because she was originally a Common Priggle, and Mocha is what I name Zigzagoon I get in Pokemon.

Also, I feel this with all of my heart, lol.

Week 8 prompt:

This one will be short for me. I don't do anything else with my pets. My pets are all OCs and I make pretty profiles for them, and I'll admit that I'm not really interested in any of the other 'pets site' aspects of Subeta as a whole. I don't feed my pets, or play with them, or read books, or battle or anything beside making nice profiles for my OCs.

Kamots is my first pet on the site too! I love that you have the lore / connection for her name, I don't remember any names from my pokemon except "Nugget" which was the name I gave Poochyena and Herdier after my childhood dog <3 I wish I could remember some of names I used to give, it would be an interesting insight into me at various ages lol.

Wayyy back when I first started, I played with them to keep them happy. Then discovered the minions. Now I try to match my minions with my pets either for their story or colors.(Unless I am zapping) That keeps their happiness up.

The only pets I toss in the Inn over the resort, are my battlers. Everyone else gets to mull around. After hitting a dozen pets I started to pick and choose who got what.. now... eh well. Only the top 5 get the Inn unless I am grinding away some stats.

I do. Serrated is my top and go to pet. He gets first dibs on everything even after winning the spotlight. Abra, Kovac and Anni fight for the second place in training and battling. If I need that Boost for extra prizes I toss Azana in the ring.

Everyone else gets tossed in training only for job stats.

As for enjoying. I like the ease of battling here, but it is very repetitive. I haven't found anywhere that has something to keep me locked into the battling. On any site. So I think it's just a me thing that I don't have battling as my number one focus.

I do. Azana was my starter battle pet and became my gourmand pet from that. Initially her character didn't line up with either and I hadn't flushed her out until later, then I incorporated both loosely into her story.

As for bookworms, again my battlers have dibs. Azana I am pretty sure still out smarts Serrated still or they are close. I have some pets that get read books for their characters, such as Starscream.

Others I toss books at them to lift up their stats for the jobs they do.

The achievements I do try to concentrate on Serrated or Azana if I can. Gnats has the largest treasure chest and I had to cut him off since it was starting to lag my own system down trying to arrange it. LOL yeah. there are a lot of bugs on this site.

I Used to love making profiles. I still do, but that quiet time to fiddle with px's and coding and tweaking this and that eats into my RL as of late so now I more than anything tweak my own already made profiles or use pre-made ones and just add the elements to make those pop.

All my pets do have jobs. And that keeps me working on their stats here and there. Some more than others.

Some of my characters have off site links to stories. Old role play characters and a large handful to my own story that gets added to here and there over the years.

I have personal pet goals, one of them is a pet for each year Subeta has been online. I am missing a 2020 legacy name. after the legacy names stopped I am not too keen on keeping that goal. Abra is a non-legacy named pet I have.

The other goal is the alphabet names. I am missing X and Y legacy names. So those are two are my top hunting priorities for names.

lol, if I'm being honest, I constantly forget to collect everyone's pay. (oops!) Once a pet gets the top position in their chosen job, I usually don't bother with it again until I come up with another pet idea, or in some cases change an existing one.

It wouldn't work for me personally because I don't care about them, but adding more achievements to the jobs would probably get more people interested in them. Personally I'd like to see a little more variation in the stats that are required for the jobs; usually it's just strength, level, and intelligence. That makes sense for some of them, but not all. Like I would think a delivery job would require more speed, or a guard might need defense as well as strength.

It would likely be more trouble than it's worth to program, but it might be cool if some of the other parts of the site were tied into the jobs. For example if your pet was working at the bakery, maybe they would have to successfully bake a couple of items, or a specific item, in addition to meeting the stat requirements. Gardening might require the pet to plant a few seeds and successfully grow them into plants. I'm not sure how many people would actually like that, though. Or how well that would work in practice. I'm just a lore nut =p

The Battle forums usually have some good advice on strategies, training, and weapon sets. Some people do complain about it being hard to get into, and they've got some valid points. But for the most part I very much prefer training here on Subeta than the whole codestone nonsense they made you do to train in Neopets. There's a lot more options, and generally to me it's easier overall to raise a battle pet - or more, like I wound up doing, haha

Sungod is currently at T10, which is something I never thought I'd accomplish!! But being an ultimate weapon, of course he's not satisfied with that, and wants to go even higher. He's always going to be my main battle pet, but I do train others too if it's part of their story. Erelin I've trained because she's a warrior ice mage. Sevidical is an evil supernatural being (who just happens to appear as a game show host), so it makes sense for him to be strong. And this is going to sound very weird, but I swear a couple of my pets "asked" to be trained. Opaque was one; they developed a little crush on Erelin and wanted to get stronger just to be of some help to her.

All the pets I'm training (aside from possibly Sungod, since he's a fan pet and therefore his own thing) are also part of a little idea I had about Subeta lore. Basically my pets are studying the so-called legendary weapons, in the hopes of answering some questions about them. Who made them, and why? Is there a way to draw out more power from them (and should that even be done in the first place)? What happens if someone completely untrained in combat tries to wield one? And so on. It's just a germ of an idea right now XD I don't have much to it at all. But it's something I hope to come back to and develop more when I get some time.

Pureflower is my Gourmand and also my book pet, so I keep her well-fed (most of the time) but the rest of my pets...not so much. When Major Quests wants to feed a specific item, I'll select which of my pets best fits the food in terms of character, if it's a food PF has already eaten.

I'll sometimes battle the medium/hard challengers if I like the 5th win prizes or for plots but I don't get into battling other than that. Maybe someday.

Yep, PF is pretty much spoiled all around (lol). She's my Gourmand, my book pet and my battle pet. She gets everything first, when it comes to new items.

My focus is pretty much getting my pets spotlight ready. (My ultimate goal has always been to have 100 Spotlight winners...33 to go!)

I generally keep all of my pets in the resort! It costs me over half a million sP every few weeks and... does not really do much good for me overall since there's not really a reason to keep everyone happy/fed and not just my active battlers, lol. But it makes me feel better. I train all of my pets up to tier 3 or higher! I have one capped pet, one tier 13, two tier 12s, three tier 11s, and then a bunch of less impressive pets hehe. Actually I'm gonna do a quick breakdown for my own curiosity, lemme check.

This made me realize I have 126 pets, not 125 like I previously said. Well I'll be getting my loyalty slot in a few days so the number will change again anyway. Ugh I have so many tier 3/4 pets... I feel like I need to get back into training more of these guys... The main reason I train my pets is not because I especially like battling or to get tons of loot (although it's very satisfying to be able to win battles!), but... because I like seeing the numbers... even when those numbers mean that my bank account number is smaller...

Halden is my book pet because of the way intelligence is tied to AP and thus battle scrolls. He's my main battler so I gotta make sure he's smart on-site, even if I feel like some of my other characters would be smarter hehe. I have a gourmand pet, [pet not found] but... jeez. My struggle has been that my brain rejects the idea of feeding gross food items because the character wouldn't actually eat them, so I'm debating on changing him. I just don't have yet have an idea for a different gourmand pet (one that would actually eat literally anything haha)...

My pets all have jobs! I'm trying to get back into collecting their pay daily since the whole point of that was to get 1mil+ a day off my pets, but it's just so many buttons to press. My min-maxer brain refused to get character-based jobs for my pets... 260 intelligence isn't that hard to get to (just very tedious!) so everyone is a Certified Mad Scientist (15.5k a day) or something that pays higher.

I feel this way too. It's easy and kinda fun, but also repetitive and since I haven't gotten super into it I feel like I'm just pressing buttons and I lose interest. But I'm that way with any game I think, I've only really played Pokemon longterm and used to do Kingdom Hearts a lot and with both once I've battled so many times in a row I get bored and kinda forget about it for a while.

I haven't ever focused much on achievements but I think that may be a fun thing for me to do. Lots of ... bugs (because Gnats, get it?) LOLOL

I have zerp coding skills or knowledge as far as making anything myself and I don't have the IRL time / mental bandwidth to learn so thank god for the folks who share their awesome pre-mades because I can use them, customize them, and have learned a bit about CSS as I've gone along!

Hahaha this week's theme happened because I remembered for the first time in forever (cue frozen song) that my pets even had jobs hahaha.

I'd love longterm to see more variation in the different things that include pets! I think this is a great idea. I love the idea of the pet having to accomplish certain tasks to get a promotion at a certain level too! That's a fun way to tie more stuff into the jobs and the other parts of the site. Also plots, I love a good plot lol.

Dude congrats. That's awesome! And I love that you've created lore about these pets. Are you using this lore as their stories? I'd be super into reading it! I see multiple folks talking about tying the job, battle, reading, etc to the pet story and that's really really cool to me and a good way to make these other things carry more weight!

I used to do that stuff too, but for me I've drifted the same way - Subeta is my little happy creative world where I make characters and try to motivate myself to write LOL.

Oh I forgot about battle sometimes being part of plots! I think plots are a great way to motivate folks to use more parts of the site! I also just remembered battle quests are a thing so maybe that's something for me to poke around.

I love hearing the different approaches everyone takes to the different options on the site! From starting with the character and building out to linking character traits to the other activities to keep yourself more engaged, keeping the resort in business to picking and choosing based on other needs, battling like a pro and raising stats to wild levels to dabbling here and there but not really having taken a leap into it, etc. It's just like ... cool to see how we can all like something so much and still have our own personal takes.

Sweaters 's story isn't finished yet but I'm working on him and I've been going back and forth between keeping him as a sweetheart or making him angelic. Both expressions, postures, and color schemes are so good!

lol thank you, I appreciate that! But again, I gotta insist no one else do it that way, at least not if you intend to get into battling seriously. I'm very much a casual battler, and my approach just isn't practical and definitely not the most cost-efficient. It just makes me happy XD

It's got some pretty serious drawbacks sometimes, though. For example, I mentioned Sungod earlier, and how most of his weapons do light, fire, or magma damage. That actually worked pretty well until he got to Saggitarius, who has an item that blocks all three of those icons. Unless I'm lucky enough to steal or blast that particular item, Sungod simply can't do much damage with the set he usually has.

Fortunately, I found some space/rift themed and robot themed weapons that do different icons to help him out there. I also make extensive use of Dark potions and mod crystals to help fill in gaps in his set. But overall I think it's just better in general to have a well-rounded weapon set with a few extra weapons you can rotate in for certain opponents.

While I'm thinking about it, when any of my battle pets "outgrow" a favorite weapon or scroll that they once used a lot, I'll "retire" it by taking it out of the armory and putting it in their TC. Sungod has its Shear Sword, Sevidical has Descimatii and the Pineapple of Torture and Maiming, Erelin has her Crystalline Blow scroll and Frost Thorn, and so on. Just a fun little thing I like to do.

For now, yes! There's nothing wrong with people making pets who are basically their own characters, but I am kind of surprised about how so few of them are actually tied to Subeta and its lore. I thought it would be neat for Subeta to have a little more fan content XD so this is my attempt at it. It's based on some actual discussion about the legendary weapons way back when they were first released. The consensus (if I remember correctly) was that they were...okay...but generally not worth the price, or at least that there were better weapons to be had. (I could definitely be misremembering that.)

So that gave me an idea for a possible story. What if we're only seeing a fraction of those legendaries' power, for some reason? Who sealed them, and why? (Or more importantly, who wants them unsealed, and why?)

Again, I don't have much more than that idea. I'm still at the stage where I'm playing around with it, asking questions and trying to come up with answers, working the pets' characters into it, so on. I hadn't been actively working on it lately, but I might have to start up again knowing that people might actually be interested! XD

That's such a good point! I think it's super cool to be writing Subeta lore (fanlore? lol). I hadn't given it much thought before, but as soon as I read what you said I was like "wait, I love this little site and totally want to make an in-universe OC" :D I have two pets who share a story and I've been playing with how to shape it up, omg this may have just made it all click into place thank you!

Dalten is my Gourmand. He runs a food blog. Less than 1000 foods to go for the last gourmand achievement tier!

Alivia is my reader. It isn't worked into her personality. She was my first pet, so she's who I started reading books to.
