What's new on Subeta?

I've recently adopted

Sweet Symphony. I'm so happy to own a Glade Swampie! I already drew art for its profile, but now I need to figure out how I want to layout its profile.

My goal for this month is to design and code at least one profile this month and the candidates are either Sweet Symphony, Beau + Opal, or Otome. Or I might sketch some more art. I have a few ideas bouncing around for quite a few of my pets.

I finally defeated the Final Corruption 10 times with Valechka, so battling has been going well! And as much as I appreciate more event challengers... there are so many.

What's new IRL?

My family is visiting, so I've been spending time with the kids. We're watching Craig of the Creek right now and it is a very good show. I'm also illustrating for a children's book, so my weeks are packed and I'm whittling away at it on top of my full time job. Packed month for sure.

I haven't had a depressive episode since early may. o.o god hates me though so in exchange for better mental health, I got a bunch of fun new physical health issues, primarily...

MY GALLBLADDER IS DYING

okay it's not that dramatic, it's not dying yet. but it could, because it is FULL of gallstones, and it needs to be taken out. idk if I have mentioned here previously (it's been a while since I posted on the forums), but since last september, I had been having severe chest pain once or twice a month, always at night, always for several hours at a time. I thought it was bad heartburn, but I ended up in the ER early june after five hours of pain/vomiting, and that's when we learned my body has been making a bunch of ugly little rocks. I changed my diet drastically and was okay for another month, but last week I had to go to the ER again despite not having eaten anything that could've triggered an attack. :/

I have surgery scheduled for august 5th. idk if I'm just being a hypochondriac or whatever, but I feel sick to my stomach a lot these days. I get random cramps in my upper abdomen where the gallbladder/pancreas are. I miss eating fatty foods, but gallbladder attacks are extremely painful, so I'd rather stick to a boring diet than risk another attack.

I'm also fairly certain I have undiagnosed sleep apnea. I haven't slept very well for several years now, but it started to get particularly bad this year, and I can barely keep myself awake to do even the simplest things, like watching TV. it's a miracle I'm awake enough to write this whole post. I have not been awake enough to do any sort of brainstorming for my pets/characters/future webcomic, and I have not done any art in over a month because the focus it takes is something I'm not able to give right now. I have commissions that are in limbo and I really feel badly for not finishing them, but, AGH. I'M SO TIRED

I have a sleep study scheduled for mid september, but I'm going to see if I can do it sooner. I am DESPERATE for a good night of sleep. I wake up 5+ times a night, every night, and it's driving me insane.

anyway tl;dr I'm having problems but I'm alive!!! I really want to be creative again - I want to draw my OCs, I want to take on art commissions, I want to help y'all with the creative process. I miss it and I miss you guys and I hope you're all doing well. just give me a few more months to figure my shit out. x.x

Really sorry to hear about your health deciding to enter an olympic diving competition. The cramping in the upper abdomen might also be from the gallbladder causing colic as it tries to use its stored bile but the stones put some some resistance or make it harder to squeeze out that lovely green juice. It might also be anxiety about the situation and surgery, but hoping it's the first because then the removal should clear it up for you! Also hopefully the sleep study gets some good answers for you and your sleep specialist has ideas of how to help you get better sleep!

Please don't apologize for not being creative when that little sack of rocks is making you miserable. I know exactly what you're talking about because the same thing happened to me roughly 9, 10 years ago. I was in the ER with a gallbladder attack too. Had no idea that's what it was; only that I was throwing up and in literally the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life. It took nearly a year to diagnose what was wrong with me (was unemployed at the time, so it took pretty much all my money too =) and during that time I lost a lot of weight simply because I was too afraid to eat much of anything.

Once I was able to get that little gallbladder removed, I felt so much better. Some foods are still off limits, mostly spicy ones sadly, and I'm still careful about portion sizes just out of habit, but for the most part I can eat what I want again.

It's going to be okay! If you ever have any questions about the surgery or what to expect, feel free to message me and I'll answer as best I can!

I wanted to reply to this earlier but I always procrastinate for a bit at first and then I ended up getting sick lol. Better late than never, I guess.

What's New With Lea On Subeta? To no one's surprise, I immediately bought and filled the five new pet slots.

I really wanted a hydrus urubu and I haven't had a lot of inspiration for new characters lately, so I impulsively named mine after one of my Valheim characters. (My actual main character on Valheim is named Aeva, but... I already have an OC named Naeva lol, so had to use my secondary character.)

At this point, Sigrid is less of a personal OC and more of a tribute to my love for the game Valheim. For those who haven't heard of it, Valheim is a survival/crafting sandbox game with vikings. I am very, very scared whenever I play it on even the easiest setting, but I latched onto the game to a really weird extent. I haven't come up with anything for Sigrid's character so far except that she shares my personality defect of calling every animal a dog and she has a dog boar named Jerky.

I don't have much of a character in mind for her yet, but Cascade is going to have the water elemental orc vibe of my current HA. I need to make her hydrus but I have to wait for Merana to show up again; I'd initially made her a zasaba and then realized the hydrus zasaba didn't fit the vibe as well as I wanted. Nadia is an angelic neela because I changed my angelic neela today and I wanted a new one. (': Not sure what I'm doing with Austin yet, I'll probably end up renaming them...

I adopted Etana out to Faune a little bit ago, which was an A+ decision, and made

Josephine instead. I think she's going to be another Pokemon trainer, simply because I want fire/ice lesbians and pairing her up with Chione would mean I don't need to get another glacier pet haha.

Calhan

Zarath [pet not found] Ezra was changed simply because I could not resist such a creaturous bird. Hakar was also renamed; he used to be Regan and a darkmatter qrykee. I've had Calhan for almost 11 years and he was an angelic neela for a very very long time, but I finally admitted to being stuck and changed his species/color. I think I'm going to need to rename Zanthus since I can't come up with any ideas for his name and I don't especially like it. Him becoming a glade urubu was impulsive; first I accidentally made him a storm tigrean and then was like 'wait this isn't Zarath??' Someone gifted me a Glade Potion so I went to look at glade pets and was like "holy SHIT look at how HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!" over the urubu. Plus I need more urubus. I love them so much.... [edit] Zanthus is now Ephraim! But I found a name I like better roughly 5 minutes after renaming him, so I gotta rename him again on August 1st lol.

I'm getting over being sick so I haven't really been in a mood to do much creatively lately. I feel like in general I'm just going through an uninspired period with OCs. I haven't even really thought about pet profiles in a while, which is kinda weird... and annoying. I swear someday I'll finally finish those WIP freebie templates, aha...

I've been continuing to focus on training

Eliam. I ended up farming 100 tomes from the Masquerade challengers so he got a pretty good boost from that. I didn't keep track of the tomes I farmed from these event challengers, but it's been quite a few lol. I switched him over to the SAI career path so that I'll be forced to work on his intelligence instead of procrastinating on it. I'm starting to consider if I should try to get him to tier 13 by the end of the year, but... idk if I'm committed enough for that aha.

I'm continuing to work on my goal of getting 50% of my pets up to tier 5 or higher. Now that I have 138 pets, I'll need 69 t5+ pets. Nice. According to my spreadsheet, I'm currently at 63, so... progress is being made, slowly but surely.

I also keep thinking about setting a goal of getting a tier 9+ pet of every redraw color, but... that's kind of hard when I don't like steamwork or nostalgic pets much, and I also can't imagine having a scribble battle pet (although it would be really funny.) Plus, not sure if harvest and blacklight should count or not. So I'm not committed yet, buuut I've had the idea on my mind for a few months so I feel like I'll keep thinking about it until I finally go for it lol.

What's New With Lea IRL? Recovering from being sick, mostly. I had to miss almost an entire week of work, and then when I went in last Friday I only made it for 4 hours before I tapped out. I have a lingering cough and I get very dramatic, asthma-esque coughing fits that leave me gagging, etc. And my work involves a lot of animal restraint, so I can't work normally if I'm not feeling well... I usually end up triggering coughing fits if I push myself. It's super frustrating and I hate it. Aside from that, just the usual nothing since I don't do much lol. Been playing Valheim again which tends to have unfortunate effects on my ability to ever get anything done. I was looking into getting a pair of kittens since the house has felt lonely ever since my cat had to be put down last year and it's... been quite a while now. But and I have been talking about me going to visit them for a week next month, after their surgery, so the kitten thing is kind of on hold for now... at least it's paused for a good reason!

Caliban and Navier are really cool names. 'u' Gorgeous pets, too. I'm interested to see what you do with them. I always love mage characters, and matriarch of a wealthy family seems like a fun character trope. Lots of potential. How is Art Fight going?

I love the art you did for Sweet Symphony so much, and oh my god, I love his concept. What a cute little guy... in love with a street light... I love him so freaking much already omg. It's also just so cool to see a swampie!! They're such an underappreciated species (I say, while only owning one myself haha.) Congrats on the battle wins! Hah, that opponent is one I still haven't bothered with despite having a capped pet. I like battling as long as I don't have to think or do anything but mindlessly click, lol.

Thank you! I did manage to zap the 870. And then very quickly also zapped her a love interest in 10010 (I think the basics are in the spotlight thread somewhere recently?) For Sigrid, I don't know if you just do the Valheim games, or if you have watched any of the viking-era shows that are out and about. Vikings, Vikings Valhalla, and (possibly to a lesser extent unless you want more of the danes in england) The Last Kingdom, might give some inspiration for more character to her? Also love that she has a toothy-woods-dog for a pet!

Navier's story unfortunately may take place in the past; I'd already referenced the fact that she'd passed away in Mistral's story. Part of the reason he is...the way he is XD...is his inability to accept her passing. Of course I could just rewrite the whole thing since they're my characters after all!

Caliban might be a little bit like his namesake, or a possible suitor for Mertensia. Really haven't decided yet.

Art Fight is going slowly, but it's going! Was only able to complete one attack this month, but I'm hoping I can finish two more by this weekend. Got some nice art from my friends, too! Not bad for a last minute decision XD

Usually I would ask if you could combine the ideas but I just refreshed myself on Caliban (I am someone who knows nothing about Shakespeare; one of my coworkers does theater and I go to all her shows but I never understand anything that's going on.) I... don't think those ideas would be easy to combine lol. The idea of him having some similarity to the OG character is interesting though, I'm really curious about how you might go about that.

It's such a struggle to find time to do art sometimes, I'd be afraid to join any timed events like that... Good luck with getting the art done in time!!

Honestly it's still too early for me to know for sure what I'm going to do with these characters XD Most of my babs have to cook a while before I really feel like I know what to do with them, and even then, sometimes they wind up way different later on. But I wanted to start somewhere! I've been wanting to make these pets for months now.

As for rewriting the story, maybe! If I get too attached to Navier I might have to spare her after all. XD It's also possible I may drop the connecting story altogether (if it just isn't working) (but I'm not at that point yet!) and each character can just have their own self-contained story, like what most people seem to do with their pets here. Sadly I haven't been concentrating on Subeta very much lately, too many other things vying for my goldfish-like attention span right now =

I bet you could clear Final Corruption no prob. if your pet is capped. It's funny, because I was stuck on five wins for, what felt like, the better part of a year. Then I got those last five with little to no problem. I guess I just needed more stats (and actually read the guides written for him lol).

SOREN :D oh my gosh, I am SO sorry to hear about all these painful and stressful issues you've been facing. That's awful and horribly unfair. You deserve the best of life, not struggles. I'm really glad you've got things on the schedule to address these issues and hope they are fully healed / resolved / easily manageable ASAP.
