I like how you pair legacy names and non-legacy names to enhance the pet's character / profile! I don't think I've seen a lot of people do that and it's a great idea!

I just realized I forgot to actually write my own answers for some of the prompts, LOL. Soooo here we go!

I have to admit, I'm a sucker for LNs. When NUNs rolled out in 2020 I already had most of the pets I currently have, so when the distinction between LN and NUN happened my whole "family" was LN kiddos. Since then I've only adopted three new kids I think, and each time it's been like "well if they're not LN they'd be the only one" so I end up searching specifically for LNs to adopt. It's a bit fun too, because it's reminiscent of the old "rush" of searching for the perfect available or UFA name, but with a little less emotional turmoil lol. I also tend to find names and then shape characters at this point, whereas if I was coming with the character first I could see myself being a lot more focused on getting the name I want even if it's not legacy. For now I think I'll keep with my trend since I enjoy it, but it could always change down the road.

I think all my names are special in their own ways, but that's probably because I've become attached to them and the individuals they represent. I do have an extra soft spot for some of the names though - Kamots, Steadfast, Reuel, Pratchett, Attenborough., Fellarka, Stelios top the list. <3

Spoiler because 48 names is a lot for one post
Tribute Names
Kamots, Chemukh, & Matsi - named after three of the wolves in the Sawtooth Mountain Wolf Pack which is the long term wolf study that absolutely exploded my passion for wolves as a child. Reuel, Pratchett, & Attenborough. - named after JRR Tolkien, Sir Terry Pratchett, and Sir David Attenborough respectively Timothie - named after Timothy Q Mouse Stelios - named after Stelios from 300 Revan - named after Revan from Star Wars Chewwie - named after Chewbacca from Star Wars Jeremiah. - Named after the bible verse Jeremiah 29:11 Fellarka - she belongs both in other and in tributes I think. I "created" her name and she's been one of my only two OCs that I've really attached to and shaped into different stories. Her name comes from the two parallel characters Fell and Larka from the novel The Sight which was and is one of my favorites.

Real Words
Steadfast - resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering named for "steadfast love" as a tribute pet for my IRL marriage. Booped - a play on the term "to boop" an animal's nose. Awakened - rouse from sleep often I've described my experience of understanding and identifying my depression as "waking up" for the first time in a long time, so this name felt tied deeply to "awakening" into my life again. Hallows - hallowed means regarded as holy, sacred but I originally adopted this pet as a HP fanpet. After JKR came out as a TERF I nixed the idea and changed things up. I'm really happy with how they came out. Venture - dare to do something or go somewhere that may be dangerous or unpleasant Nevertheless - in spite of, for me the saying "nevertheless she persisted"

Pluviam - latin, rain. Ya girl loves thunderstorms lol Ventis - latin, wind

Aardvark - Aardvarks are one of my favorite animals in the world. I worked with a family of aardvarks and bonded with a sweet girl named Adazee so I totally had to score this name for a pet about my experiences in the zoo! Photographie - this one seems self explanatory lol Sweaters - again, this one seems self explanatory Looseleaf - like looseleaf tea Wholebean - like whole bean coffee

Sweden - ...Sweden XD Gettysburg - a location, the site of the final battle of the civil war in the USA, pet name chosen as a tribute to Lincoln and my history teacher who taught me a lot of history and even more about life Parks - a recreational green space & national parks are a scenic or historically important area of countryside protected by the federal government for the enjoyment of the general public or the preservation of wildlife Aphelion - the point in the orbit of a planet, asteroid, or comet at which it is furthest from the sun Aleutians - the Aleutian Islands Birches - Birch Trees. Originally made this pet to be an author character and named them after the Robert Frost poem Birches Mojave - the Mojave Desert Oceanaria - named after the ocean (I guess this isn't technically a real word lol) Perennial - especially small flowering plants—that grow and bloom over the spring and summer, die back every autumn and winter, and then return in the spring Savanna - the savanna ecosystem Sequoias - my favorite tree, the redwood Tundras - the tundra biome

"Real" Names
Tegwen - is a Welsh name meaning fair, lovely, blessed, shining Gwin - a LN I adopted because I liked the name! Niccolai - a LN I adopted because I liked the name! Valeria - latin name meaning "strong, brave, healthy"

Other Names
Remiel - A name I came up with for an angel character, close to the name Ramiel which is the angel of hope, giving divine visions and guiding souls to heaven Coleman - his name belongs in all three categories lol. He's named for the camping brand. I LOVED camping as a kid (still do but don't do it often). Carn - a play on "carnal" Ferik - a name I adopted that sounded cool, gives me viking vibes Feyne - a name I adopted that sounded cool, reminds me of woods Mirio - a name I adopted that sounded cool, mystical Kotori - a name I adopted that sounded cute and strong

This is happening with some of my newer pets. I snagged Beacara from the pound because she was an angelic something or other, and I wanted an angelic Blob. But I'm keeping her name because it sounds like it would be an angel's name! I think because of Beatrice from Dante's trilogy, and then "mia cara" is "my dear" in Italian. So it's influencing the character I'm coming up with for her.

Also keeping Frio's name (although it's not LN) because it sounds like "frigid," and Szardiis because it's Lovecraftian sounding. That influenced me to make her part of the Lovecraftian portion of my omniverse!

I don't really like Rubel's name atm, but I have no ideas for her character yet, so I may warm up to it if it suggests a character for her.

also smailing you for something personal lol

YOOOOO CONGRATS ON THE OVERLAY, it looks SO good and cute ;w;

as for this week's prompts...

oh i definitely have a preference for legacy names haha. not ALL of my pets are, but, Most of them are. 18/27 of my pets are lns, and most (but not all) of the others i created myself! Lollipup, Enfys, and Sick were all found in the pound, and Haunt was created For but not By me ehe. prophet, ARCADE, Lark, Garlic, and Loveday Darling were all created by me :3 all my LNs were either pound finds or adopted out to me by kindly subetans. :3

Quote

some of my fave names of my pets are some of my most incomplete ones unfortunately. 😭
majestic prince
and
Virtual Self
are two of my faves name-wise, i just haven't... finished them. 😔

Quote

prophet, Lark, Loveday Darling are all named after ocs/sonas of mine, Garlic is named after my late cat. ARCADE is just a name i think is real cool, he was my labrat for a while until i got his current form and stopped there :b

a special shoutout goes to

Enfys, fka Craig. i snagged him out of the pound as a spectrum kumos and changed his name to Enfys, which is Welsh for rainbow!

i only have one pet whose LN does Not match their display name, and that's

Teippi!! his legacy name is 'Teippi' which after some googling seems to be the Finnish word for 'tape' LOL. i adopted him as Fearne so i kept him that way. maybe some day he'll be Teippi. it DOES sound cute.

as for what i do with LNs, it really depends! a few of them became fanpets, like

Subversive,
Paradoxical
, and
Bloodshot
. others ended up with themes, concepts, or characters. or just Vibes. like
Neniath
.

WOW i LOVE how much detail you went into about the origins of your pets omg. :o i love Looseleaf and Wholebean SO MUCH they're so cute.

YOU TOO omg. i still ADORE Llewyn's name tbh.

lol I was about to comment and say I love Enfys's name!! I find Welsh fascinating although I think I only know one word 😂 But it played a role in two of my favorite YA books, so I've always been interested in it.

I adore Llewyn too, both the name and the character ❤ I was so stoked when I was able to get the name. The character has such an interesting heritage being half Welsh and half Italian! (...and then he's portrayed by a Guatemalan-American...) iirc I don't think they did much with his Welsh heritage in the movie (although it's been years since I watched it all the way through b/c it's really depressing). So I'm glad I figured out a way to have it prominent on the pet profile, although I have no idea if there's any canon connection to Lleu Llaw Gyffes.

Those names are really freaking cool not necessarily on their own but because what you did with them. Like, dang I LOVE what you tied together with Beacara. Fun fact, I have a love / eye twitch relationship with the Divine Comedy because it's such a thought provoking and interesting work but also (at least the version I read) was such a struggle at times because of how much I had to focus and think LOL.

Ah, I LOVE Enfys! I've always wondered what their name meant (I mean I guess I could have googled it lazy) Teippi is a cute name but tbh I love the name Fearne! It's one of my favorite of your pet's names lol.

Thank you! In the beginning I had a lot of names I made for specific ideas I had, and then overtime I began to also adopt a lot of pets who I came up with ideas for. Looseleaf and Wholebean have been with me for a long time. I originally had a pet named Coffees, and then when I adopted Looseleaf I believe I changed some names around and made Wholebean to replace Coffees and be a partner pet. They went through a few vague idea changes but I JUST came up with a really cute idea I like for them that I'm hopefully going to start writing out soon!

LL&WB They're going to be a cute couple who own a joint coffee and tea shop. I'm thinking about them being representations of fall and spring, but I don't know if that will just be a "vibe" tied into their personalities or if I'll go deeper with the idea. Maybe they originally had their own shops, then merged as they became a couple? IDK it's still vague but I have an general image in my head of the two of them now and I think I'm gonna run with it!

Lurker that finally decided to post. Been a while since I spoke about all my characters/pets, so there goes!

Do you have a "trend" or preference for your pet names - A legion of legacy names? Exclusively real words? A fan of numbers? A little bit of this and a little bit of that? I've been a member of Subeta for 17 years, so most of my pets have legacy names. A lot of my pets are named after celestial bodies, or space terms such as Andromeda, Cassiopeia, Quasar, Perseid etc.

Do you have any pet names you just adore or that have an extra special place in your heart?

Audrey Audrey's my real name. She's one of the most special legacy name I have. I remember when she went UFA. I wrote a super in-depth application, with a custom profile and art, since it had been my saint-graal name for years. Audrey went through at least half a dozen character, before I finally gave in and made her a selfie pet. That name is just too personal for me for it to be anything but a reflection of myself.

Andromeda I got Andromeda in one of those high profile, stressful name clearings. I had many friends help me, since this name meant so much to me. Andromeda was the name of one of my fav character, and I wanted to get her actual name on Subeta. Over the years, Andromeda went through a major redesign, she's now an extremely personal character, with a name that means even more to me that it did all the way back in 2014.

Where did your pets' names come from - feel free to share whether you have one or one hundred! I've always been a strong advocate for non-unique pet names, and I'm so glad it was implemented, but I have to admit that I really did enjoy 'name hunting' back in the days. Most of my pet names come from hours of research, finding alternative spelling that were free, or names that were about to clear. Or more obscure names that no one would think of before. A few interesting or memorable names stories:

Antigua
Barbuda
A pair of tropical dragons. A great exemple of the creativity I had to go through to find names back in the old days. I wanted to make a pair of tropical themed pet that complemented each other, and I was so surprised to find this pair of real life island free.

Makenai I wanted to make a magical girl inspired pet, but couldn't find any free interesting names. But then it struck: Makenai, a quote from my favorite magical girl song (''Makenai''/Sailor Stars song from the 5th season of sailor moon), a subtle reference, and a perfect tribute.

Galaxy
Hydrogen
Supernova
Sometimes, names are more than names. These three names were all given to me by dear friends, back when I was desperately looking for space names to make even more space dragons. They were the seeds that inspired characters (or will inspire some, Galaxy still doesn't have a fixed design, but I swear, it's coming. The name is just too good to not be perfect), and what is a name if not just creativity waiting to unfold?

Yaaay! Welcome :D starts chanting one of us, one of us LOL.

Congratulations (even though it's much later) on getting your saint-graal name! I can imagine how incredibly exciting it was for you when that happened, especially with what going for names used to be like! The pet is awesome, and I kinda love the idea of a selfie pet actually! That TC also - partially aesthetically fantastic and partially made me cackle because the 300 taxidermy foxes (and counting).

Oh wow. Andromeda's character is ... hard to find the right adjective for. I would read an entire novel series of her story.

I'm also a huge fan of there being non-unique names! It makes the site so much more accessible and enjoyable for new members and opens up a lot of creativity options for long time users as well! I do also miss the "hunt" and the feeling of finding that name, it helped push some creativity. I think the new system offers it all - being able to choose the names that you most love and want for a character and being able to "hunt" for LNs if you'd like! I've started to get "better" at TCs and modifying profiles and have started to find similar satisfaction in getting them "just right" as I did in getting the right name.

Your character designs are awesome! Please excuse me while I go deep dive through all their profiles because they're just freaking cool and give me inspiration!

Oh goodness. Just yes. And also, a whole character could be born from that quote. Perhaps the one who names is a character also waiting to be written.

Do you have a "trend" or preference for your pet names - A legion of legacy names? Exclusively real words? A fan of numbers? A little bit of this and a little bit of that?

I tend to love RW names (Dogged, Rigatoni, Turtle, etc.) I also have groups of pets that fit certain story themes (pets based on novels I'm working on, foodie pets, legal-themed pets, plus several others). I love that Subeta switched to non-unique names because if I love a name, I can have that name and go whatever creative direction I'm feeling. (Assuming I have a pet slot open, lol.)

Do you have any pet names you just adore or that have an extra special place in your heart?

Tauren will always be my special boy. I got his name in a clearing back in like...I want to say 2012? He was the first pet I ever spent real money on. (I was a poor broke college student at the time.)

Dac is also special to me because as a kid, it was the set of initals we wrote on each set of luggage for going on vacation. I was totally thrilled the name was available, back when I started playing (also in 2012).

These were two of my ten original pets, back when gold accounts were limited to 10 "free" pets (and long before we had MC pet slots).

Where did your pets' names come from - feel free to share whether you have one or one hundred!

I have several story arcs. They're listed in the spoiler...because 119 pets. :D

My crazy list of pets

Protector (novel concept I'm working on) - Deza, Cirus, Culum, Diadem, Galex, Grel, Luno, Marcus, Mike, Skula, Solarin

Legal - (story series that started with Paralegal) - Attorney, Client, Judge, Jury, Lawyer, Prosecutor, Victim

Road Work Ahead (stories are unique but all roughly based on cars/road trips) - Escape, Ford, Highway, Road, Vike

Foodies - Ap, Bake, Cabinet, Cheddar, Dogged, Dream, Eji, Ising, Kastle, Mango, Orio, Pizza, Poster, Pucker, Pumpkin, Rigatoni, Raspberry, Trolli, Turtle, Twix, Yeast

Puppy Love - (dedicated to present/past doggos) - Goldie, Sonnet, Whuffy, Woody

Family Tribute Pets - Amy, Humor, Nerd, Toolbox

I also love RW names, in fact I remember for a long time that was all I would create / adopt! I'm a bit more varied now but I still always look for a good RW UFA! You have so many lovely names, and I love how you keep things organized on your profile!

I love the idea of pets grouped into stories. I've seen a few folks with this kind of pet layout and I'm starting to lean more into it as I've gotten new inspiration for my current pets. Short stories are my strong point, but I'm trying to branch out and challenge myself with bigger world building and character development.

It's so special that you still have Tauren and Dac. I still have my first pet Kamots, and I'm so attached to him. I love that you were able to get names that hold such a personal meaning.

Hahaha I remember the 10 pet limit! Man I can't imagine trying to limit to that now. I'm so glad they've given us so many pet slots to purchase and fill because for those who treasure and enjoy the pets above all else I think the site would have been limiting if pets were capped like that still.

You're writing novels!? That's awesome. I love that Subeta can be a part of that journey for you. You have so many interesting characters, I'm going to have to carve out time to explore their stories because I'm already super interested just from some of these descriptions.

Oh hey, I spy cake. Happy level up day !

As for this week's prompts...

Do you have a "trend" or preference for your pet names - A legion of legacy names? Exclusively real words? A fan of numbers? A little bit of this and a little bit of that?

No trends that I can see, I just use whatever I think fits the character. Some are words, some are fanpet names, they're kind of all over the place. I don't care if they're legacy or not. In fact I got a lot more satisfaction from adopting a pet with a lot of numbers after its name - y'know, the kind no one wants - and giving them a color, maybe some training, and lots of TC items along with a "real" name. My current pet Kairos was like that!

Do you have any pet names you just adore or that have an extra special place in your heart?

Kind of. I'm still kind of proud of making up Behapi's name (it's a pun). I'm also glad I got Dangeresque even if I'm the only person around here that even remembers Homestar Runner. XD Other than that, I love all of them.

Where did your pets' names come from - feel free to share whether you have one or one hundred!

I love all my pets and never get a chance to talk about their names, so here's all 39 of them in one long post:

SPOILER (click to toggle) Sungod, Wakko, Dangeresque, Hercule, Quelana, and Flammie are all fanpets. Quick rundown: Sungod was the Japanese name of the final boss of Mega Man V; Wakko is Wakko Warner from Animaniacs (the original 1994 show - I'm not as big a fan of the remake); Dangeresque is the "bad cop" alter-ego of Strong Bad from Homestar Runner; Hercule is a nod to Hercule Poirot; Quelana was the Mother of Pyromancy from Dark Souls; and Flammie is the name of the white dragons from the Mana series, though the one I'm specifically thinking of is the one from Secret of Mana.

Sakua, Rangu, and Rajei are also fanpets, kind of. Specifically, their names are Lotis Words, which were words that literally had power in the manga series Alice 19th. Sakua meant wisdom, Rangu meant courage, Rajei meant light.

Sevidical is a word meaning "to speak in a cruel or malicious manner". I thought it was an excellent name/descriptor for an evil entity masquerading as a game show host.

Opaque was just imho an overall good word name for a Nightmare Yaherra. Not only literally, but metaphorically, since no one really knows what he is or what his motivations are.

Sasshi I've already talked about a little bit. Her name got picked out a long, long time ago, and it's not really relevant at all to her character anymore, I don't think. From what little I remember, it's Japanese for "guess". However, I am not a native speaker or even remotely fluent, so take that with a mountain of salt.

Kairos is an ancient Greek word meaning the perfect moment or "just the right time". Thought it would be appropriate for a time mage.

Glaielle is an odd one. It's a feminine version of Glaiel, which came from Glaiel Games, who created a Flash game called Aether back in 2008. I don't know if it's possible to play anymore, but it's a fascinating game if you ever find it. Not sure how the guy would react to some rando making a pet name out of his last name, but to this day I haven't really come up with anything I like better for her character. She wanders through space, much like you do in the game, and has the ability to hear each planet's resonance, or unique sound.

Rasdan is the name of the background music for the last dungeon in the PS1 game Threads of Fate. I love the whole game's soundtrack, but that music in particular is my favorite. You can listen to it here: https://youtu.be/gTQmW_H1dPI?si=gF0jXzio60p2bk4h

Galena is a mineral that's a main source of lead and a significant source of silver. It looks pretty as a name to me, so that's what I called my Angelic geologist/rock collector.

Dabbles is the name of a My Little Pony toy I used to have as a child. His sister Dessine is a tense of the French verb dessiner, "to draw."

Erelin, Anduniel, Klare, Genevive, and Cobalt were adopted, so I didn't give them those names, just elected to keep them. If there's any special meaning or references to characters, I don't know what they are. Doesn't matter much to me since I gave them their own characters XD

Behapi is literally just "be happy." (Her minion is Dunwuri - "don't worry.")

Druscylla is a character I carried over from Neopets - a rock singer who got unjustly slandered and kicked out of her old band, and who's just trying to put her life back together. It's a combination of Scylla, the monster from Greek mythology, and the old-fashioned name Drusilla.

Lemma is a word that has a special meaning in mathematics - basically (I think??) a short statement that proves another statement true. I just...really wanted a geeky nuclear Ontra and looked up a lot of math/science terms until I found one that looked like a name. Her name.

Pochette is French for "pocket" and also refers to a style of purse. I used to have an orange Popple as a kid, so when the Nostalgic Kerubi came out I had to have one. I forget how I came across the word Pochette, but I thought it was perfect for a toy with a big pocket on her back.

Kaybee is a reference to KB Toy Stores, which was a chain of toy stores that were around when I was a kid (you'd see one occasionally in a mall) but went out of business years ago.

Peets is just slang for paws. And feets. Paw feets.

Amegami is from the same original story that Rakumel and Sasshi are from. She was one of the elemental creatures Rakuen could summon, representing the element of Sugar. Again, I'm not completely sure on how accurate this is, but the "Ame" part was supposed to be a pun on both "rain" and "hard candy" (making it rain candies was one of her attacks; she also shot pink soda out of a modified water gun).

Foods was also an adoptee, but I had to grab him because I've always liked how delicious Subeta food looks. So now he just has a massive collection of my favorite junk food XD

Mozuku is a collective word for different types of edible brown seaweed. At the time I just wanted a good name for a Hydrus pet, but later on I incorporated the meaning into his character; he's not evil, just a good seafood chef.

Yulania is a subgenus of magnolia tree. Again, just wanted a name for a Glade pet, luckily there's loads of plant/flower/tree/moss/etc. words and names to choose from.

Pomma is named after a character in an old, OLD computer game called Below the Root, which was based on a series of books called the Green Sky trilogy by Zilpha Keatly Snyder. I haven't read the books myself because I thought they were out of print; but a quick google search turns up some Kindle results, so I may look into it someday.

Mertensia is a genus of flowering plants (bluebells) in cooler climates; I came across the word while looking for names for something else. Her sister Cleria is a reference to the silver-like material from the Ys series of games.

Evis was the name of one of the unused bosses from the game Shadow of the Colossus. Amazing game, one of my favorites, there's just not a lot like that one out there. Yes I bought the remake, absolutely worth it.

The real Dastrix probably created lots of other music, but the one I know is Dude In the Moon, which was part of the Need For Speed: High Stakes game soundtrack.

Finally, Pareidolia, my newest one who's still baking, personality-wise. I just wanted an unusual word-name for them.

Happy birthday :)

I'm glad you like Andromeda! I have this whole story planned out that I might never actually write, which is why I opted for a more 'Encyclopedia' kind of text on her profile. This way the story can sorta be told. (If you want to know a lil more about the world, there's more lore dump on Cassiopeia's profile. She's Andro's girlfriend, so their stories are intimately linked)

TCs are my fav part about Subeta Pets/Characters, and a big reason why I keep making characters here instead of on Toyhouse or another more 'character oriented' site. The hunt for items and pet/species combo makes making characters here so fun!

Re: non-unique names. I'm glad I can get some real spelling of the names I had alt spelling for. Like Quasars became Quasar, Cassiopea became Cassiopeia etc. It's really great to have this freedom now really! I still try to give myself restrictions for names even now to make sure I have some unique ones. For exemple, all the names in my space world have to be celestial bodies or related physics concepts of some sort. My youkai verse is either more obscure Japanese words or common Asian food. It's fun to work within specific constraint sometimes!

Absolutely love the idea of a nameless character or maybe god? With the concept of that quote! There's def something waiting to be explored there :)

Happy Birthday!

I have a few "misspelled" names I created before non-unique names where I fell in love with their characters enough not to change them (like Ising). Mostly I was excited to change my "almost" names over. (Like Rasbperri to Raspberry.)

Kamots' profile is lovely! ❤ Pureflower was the first pet I created. She's my gourmand/book pet and she's spoiled rotten, lol.

Yeah, that 10-slot limit was a challenge, especially with all the amazing pet art on Subeta and so much potential for TCs. I also remember when we had those plushies where you got 1-2 slots. I was so excited when the system switched over and then MC slots became a thing. I'm hoping we get a Quest-a-thon later this year. (I'll forever keep my fingers crossed for more pet slots.)

I started writing in high school, got an English degree, and eventually ended up working as a paralegal who daydreams about publishing a book someday. I try to set aside time every week for my writing projects. The novel is my long-term goal but I also love writing short stories and occasionally poetry.

Aw, I love that you "rescue" pets with unpopular names and give them so much love.
Homestar Runner just woke a sleeper agent in my millennial brain and I will be spending too much of my day sending my bestie all the old videos we used to watch frequently through high school. AHHH I LOVE Poirot! Sev's name is brilliant and spooky, such a good character. "A mountain of salt" made me snort. Kairos was on my list of possible names for my boy Atka, but we already have Kaiju so I didn't want to have two "Kai" names / nicknames. I already sometimes call everyone by the wrong name as is. Behapi / Dunwuri = brilliant. KB toys was one of the few stores where I could find zoid models as they started to lose popularity! Gosh I clearly remember the layout of the store in the mall. It was across from a puppy store and we would always beg my parents to let us go pet puppies and then go to the toy store. Peets and Booped need to be friends xD

I honestly think all your names are rad!
I would absolutely read her and Cassie's story, just the encyclopedia like entry was weighty and catching.

The TC is a newer concept for me, I used to be very literal theming and some pets may still be like that when appropriate but I've been so inspired by how other folks use the TC to enhance the feel of their character that you get when you look at their profile.

I think being able to get the true spellings of real words is one of the biggest benefits of NUNs. There are so many ways a certain word could be turned into a character, so more than one person being able to use the word as a name only increases the amount of creativity we get to have on Subeta. And like you pointed out, we can still have challenges, limitations, etc within our own naming scheme that can make finding that perfect name as fun as it used to be (and less stressful lol).

Thank you! <3

That's how I feel with the few names I have that have a period at the end. I've had them for so long that I'm not sure I want to remove the period lol, the longer we get from "back in the day" the more that little dot also kinda feels nostalgic lol.

Yes! Like Past said too with some of their characters. It's so nice to finally be able to have the "actual" name you have in your mind for your character / pet versus the off spelling that never quite felt right.

Hahaha oh my gosh yes, those plushies were like the dream I worked for. The MC has been awesome, I think I'm on slot 15 atm but I have a loyalty box available so I don't need to leap at it. Always crossing fingers for a Quest-a-Thon and more slots too!

That's awesome! I think you could absolutely publish a collection of the short stories you've written while you work on the larger novel. When you finish and publish that bad boy you'll have to tell me so I can pre-order a copy!

Do you have a "trend" or preference for your pet names - A legion of legacy names? Exclusively real words? A fan of numbers? A little bit of this and a little bit of that? I only have real names, some have creative spellings, but real names. Some of those pets with creative spellings I have changed their name, but kept their legacy name intact. I have many with legacy names, since I've been here for 14.5 years, but I don't need my pets to have legacy names. I started out having a mix of real names and real words, but switched them over to real names. Mariska was Poppyseed, Dalten was Repulse, Alivia was... named after a flower, I think? I don't know, she was my first pet.

Do you have any pet names you just adore or that have an extra special place in your heart? Augi was a pound find, and I adore his name, so cute. Olivia is one of my favorite names, so I was thrilled when the name Alivia became available. When we had unique pet names I really wanted the name Simba. Was happy when we changed over to non-unique names so I could make my Simba.

Where did your pets' names come from - feel free to share whether you have one or one hundred! Most are just names that I like, but some were picked with a reason.

Oliver is three names combined, for the three heads of the rat. Olan, Ivan, and Eren.

Some names were picked for what they mean:
Zephyr
is my weather pet, so they were given a name that means "west wind."
Umber
collects trees, so was given a name that means "brown."
Hawthorne
collects succulents, so was given a plant-related name.
Noelle
is my winter pet.

I get war flashbacks thinking back about those plushies and their price. Like 40-50$ PER SLOT was quite insane, but I felt so accomplished whenever I would get a new slot. I remember struggling so bad to decided which pets to keep when I had only 15-20 slots. So glad we can now have 100+ slots and counting. Tho with the amount of pets we can have now, I sometimes forget which pets I do have. Recently I realized that I had the (legacy) names Cacti and Michonne and I had absolutely no memories of creating those pets, so it was a nice surprise!

TCs are such a unique story telling tool. There's so much item variety on Subeta, and so many ways you can use said items: trinkets a character collects, things they like, conceptual items that represent them, items relating to their story, things they would have in their home, things they create... My fav thing with TC is creating nice aesthetic gradients like I did for

Ahsoka. It's just so relaxing to find items and sort them, a lil like a good cozy game. I'll be sad if/when Subeta goes and I won't have TCs to associate with my characters!

I debated going with real names, each pet given the name of their character. Ultimately I have too many non real names that I'm attached to, and not all my characters end up having names LOL. But I think it's a cool concept! You have so many really nice names!

Are you an SVU fan by any chance? Olivia, Mariska, Elliot... They're all lovely names on their own (I've loved the name Elliot since I was a little girl because I loved Pete's Dragon), but they caught my eye as a group too. Probably because I'm rewatching the show currently lol.

Oliver's name is such a creative twist!

Hahaha I love that you surprised yourself with those names XD I was trying to remember how much those plushies cost, dang!

Love Ahsoka's TC and name! Oh gosh, I refuse the idea that Subeta could go away.

I think I've used every loyalty totem except the first one for pet slots. For that first one, I went for the 10 TC slots per pet. I was like "100 pet slots sounds amazing". Then later I realized I'd given up a pet slot and was like...giant headdesk.

I have two that are self-published (one poetry collection and one YA novel). I was in a bad place in life and challenged myself to get through the self-publishing process. I don't feel the YA is my best work but it was a huge accomplishment at a time when life felt like it wasn't moving forward.

Ha ha, so true. I used to make dream lists of character ideas and be like "This is going to require a lot of loyalty totems..."

That's always awesome, to stumble on a legacy name and be like "Oh yeah, I still have so-and-so".

I found it hard to work with real words. Some real words can be really cute as names though. Still find myself missing the name Poppyseed. Your Sweaters and Booped are cute too.

Haha, yeah, I haven't actively watched SVU for many years now, but I watched it often as a teenager. Funny though, I didn't even think of Stabler when I named Elliot. I don't think I had heard the name before the show, so my affection for the name does come from it.

Oh no LOL, I can't remember for sure but I think I also used every loyalty box for a pet slot. I may have used one to change my UN (I was once RawrRayRay).

Oh that's so awesome! Self-publishing is a huge feat. If you're comfortable sharing the titles I would totally support and buy them for a read! But if not because the internet is a weird place that's okay lol.

Poppyseed is a really cute name. But her current name is also lovely! Thank you! Sweaters is one of my current WIPs, need to finish his story and a few other things but I'm glad I finally started to find the right words for him. I think I tend away from RW item names now because I also find them less fitting for shaping characters, but there are some that for sure spark inspiration.

Oh yeah, I watched it so much when I was younger and recently started a full rewatch since Stabler is back. I forgot how much I loved this show. Nevertheless is likely going to be a fan pet for Olivia, Mariska, or just themed with the show and focus on "nevertheless she persisted" as the inspiration for the story.
