- The series I'm reading now is very enjoyable. The characters are very well fleshed out and the world building is amazing. And it's a series for young adults! I mean, I know there are great writers in all genres but this is an unexpected treasure. :D

Had a bump in March where I had to see 4 different doctors but that obstacle was passed with flying colors and now I have a doctor free stretch for the next couple of months. :) Hang in there. interesting. Great that you are enjoying the characterization! I've read a lot of disagreement about the author's characterization, some think it's great and deep, others find it implausible or complain that the author makes adults act like teenagers...

- I respectfully disagree with that opinion. She makes older teens/young adults act like older teenagers/young adults. There are adult characters in the book who rightly act like adults although I think at least one of the adults is living vicariously through one of the older teens/young adults. Where did you hear such a dissenting opinion? I'm not going to go debate it because I think debate is useless but I am curious. Reddit? :D

well I read it on Goodreads, I think, and on a romance novel review blog too but I don't recall which one. Not reddit, I have yet to check out the opinions on reddit! Maybe that's next.

I did read that the author wrote the first book (maybe the first two?) of Throne of Glass series when she was a teenager herself. Maybe that explains the impression? People could be assuming that would be the case if they knew the author was a teenager.

That sounds very interesting, the bit about the character who lives vicariously through their teenage - relative? friend? Anyway it sounds like quite a stressful dynamic that could create interesting tension. I'm writing a story currently about a high school teacher who's envious of one of his students that he considers a brilliant writer. So maybe that's the sort of thing I should take a look at for inspiration.

I'm still waiting for them to allow me to import my library from Audible because I sure as he-- not entering all that by hand. lol XD As for the characters, I think it's more a case of how older teens/ya act versus the author's age at the inception of the series. I have found that, in the real world, older teens/ya are rather confused in their behavior. Sometimes they act like teens and sometimes they act like adults. It's the process of them growing from one to the other that has the readers confused. As for the one who's living vicariously, he's not only living vicariously but he's also in love with the person. It's quite the psycholgical mess if you ask me. There are parts in the eralier stories of theseries that I can see now as reflecting her tender age when she wrote them. A couple of the stories made me think of stories I wrote as assignments and that's probably how they started, English class paper. lol Are you trying to decide whether to read it? :D
